The restaurant: Pirilo is a rustic pizzeria in which we prepare, with dedication, delicious classic Italian and international dishes; always using the freshest local products. The space is designed and decorated by combining the typical Italian trattoria with the emblematic colonial architecture of Old San Juan, creating a picturesque and warm environment. The Pirilo bar has a wide selection of drinks, exclusive to the restaurant and a variety of more than 50 handcrafted beers. Reservations: Pirilo welcomes guests on a walk-in, first-come-first-served basis.
My family (husband and I, his parents, and our three children ages 14/9/5) dined at Pirilio Pizza Rustica in Old San Juan last night. Before I go further with the review - make. a. reservation. Seriously. The wait was easily >1 hour for a table...at 7:00pm on a Monday night. I had booked online a few weeks ago; at that time Covid restrictions wouldn’t allow me to book all 7 of us at one table, so I booked a 4-top and a 3-top and then emailed the restaurant to say the reservations were “connected”. We were escorted straight away to our table upstairs (side note: the interior of the restaurant is very cute and reminiscent of being in old Italy). We all shared a couple of large pizzas, and for an appetizer had the Tablita pa’ Picar (basically a charcuterie board) and two orders of Lazitos (crispy and fluffy fried dough coated in grated Parmesan cheese; all of us being from New Orleans, we agreed they reminded us of “savory beignets”). Our server Miguel took great care of us, keeping drinks refilled and even making a few beer recommendations for us. And after several days of eating more authentic local food, my kids were thrilled to have some pizza to chow down on!More
We had take out from Pirilo for dinner. We were staying nearby so, it worked out well. They had prompt service and we enjoyed the pizza and linguini bolognese. Their menu seems interesting so we would like to try it again in the future.
When In old San Juan, you MUST come here for sangria, meat platter and margarita pizza!! Ask for Juan, the best waiter and bar tender around!! Thank you for the delicious meal and beverage! We will be back soon!!
On 20 march 2021, my family of 5 waited for our turn for 45 minutes, we were told we would be next, and ended up waiting for over 90 minutes. While they gave us all kind of excuses for the delay, which we verified were...false, they let a party of 5, another of 8, and a a large group of 14 inside - no explanation for this unreasonable head of line privilege for others. My family was left unattended in the sidewalk. They didn't respect their own procedures - we were never called to inform us our turn was up. We finally left. We used to eat there about once a month, but no more - we are never coming back...!More
Went yesterday per reviews of this site and found they did not fail. The pizza we had with alfredo sauce and goat cheese was amazing. Also had mushroom appetizer and was very good. Best of all two Peroni for $5.00. Service was great for PR
We just happened upon this hidden gem called Pirilo Pizza Rustica. Juan was our waiter, who eagerly described some of his favorite pizzas. We ended up trying three, each one being very unique. My favorite had skirt steak, sausage and fried plantains with a little...spice. My daughter loved the carbonara version and we all found the one with red onions, mushrooms, goat cheese with a drizzle of truffle sauce, to be very good as well but not our favorite. The atmosphere is an old world feel, which is exactly what we love. Perfect for pictures. Don’t forget to try the Pina Coladas with fresh coconut on top and don’t forget to ask for Juan. He’ll bend over backwards to be sure your meal is perfect.More
We have been to many more expensive places to dine in our short time here, but were pleasantly surprised the moment we stepped into the door. Every person from the hostess to bartender and waitress greeted us with a smile, and followed with exceptional service...throughout. I highly recommend the garlic knots to start - hot, fresh, out of the oven, you will be in bread heaven. The sangria I ordered was on point, not too sweet, and my hubby's pina colada was equally great. We also ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer, which was good, but the garlic knots are the real winner here. We ended up ordering the large pepperoni pizza - nice thin crust, piping hot with perfect amount of pepperoni to cheese. Both very satisfied. We will not hesitate to come here again.More
Great pizza we had one called "el pecado" translates to "the sin" fantastically meaty and tasty. The ambiance is really neat , very modern meets old spanish type of thing. And again the pizza, it is a must if you ever go to old san...juan.More

I'm not sure but I think that the upstairs part have the same operating hours as the lower level. I always ask to be seated upstairs (you may have to wait a little longer). I prefer that area because there is more space between tables. Hope you enjoy it.
