My family (husband and I, his parents, and our three children ages 14/9/5) dined at Pirilio Pizza Rustica in Old San Juan last night. Before I go further with the review - make. a. reservation. Seriously. The wait was easily >1 hour for a table at 7:00pm on a Monday night. I had booked online a few weeks ago; at that time Covid restrictions wouldn’t allow me to book all 7 of us at one table, so I booked a 4-top and a 3-top and then emailed the restaurant to say the reservations were “connected”. We were escorted straight away to our table upstairs (side note: the interior of the restaurant is very cute and reminiscent of being in old Italy). We all shared a couple of large pizzas, and for an appetizer had the Tablita pa’ Picar (basically a charcuterie board) and two orders of Lazitos (crispy and fluffy fried dough coated in grated Parmesan cheese; all of us being from New Orleans, we agreed they reminded us of “savory beignets”). Our server Miguel took great care of us, keeping drinks refilled and even making a few beer recommendations for us. And after several days of eating more authentic local food, my kids were thrilled to have some pizza to chow down on!

During our vacation, we frequented this restaurant three times. It was that good. It's the best thin crust pizza ever. The sauce is delicate and not overpowering and the topics are generous. The salads are also very flavorful. We had one day when an inexperienced server came back with a bad salad with almost no toppings. But the other two times they were generous.

We have been to many more expensive places to dine in our short time here, but were pleasantly surprised the moment we stepped into the door. Every person from the hostess to bartender and waitress greeted us with a smile, and followed with exceptional service throughout. I highly recommend the garlic knots to start - hot, fresh, out of the oven, you will be in bread heaven. The sangria I ordered was on point, not too sweet, and my hubby's pina colada was equally great. We also ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer, which was good, but the garlic knots are the real winner here. We ended up ordering the large pepperoni pizza - nice thin crust, piping hot with perfect amount of pepperoni to cheese. Both very satisfied. We will not hesitate to come here again.

We live in Puerto Rico on vieques and dont get to san juan to often. This is usually one of our go to restaurants because it is generally on point. Not this time. We started with our usuals, 2 pina coladas (no coconut i despise the texture) and calamari. We then ordered a small pizza and chicken melanese aka chicken parm. The coladas show up loaded with coconut. I didnt want to complain so i let it pass. The calamari was so over cooked it was hard and chewy like a dog chew toy. I sent it back and didn't want anything to.replace it since our dinner arrived. She said she would remove the calamari from the bill. The pizza was awesome thankfully but the chicken melanese was also so over fried and tough i only had one bite. I didnt want to take a chance with another pina colada so i ordered a margarita. It came out pink and garnished with a maraschino cherry. It had maraschino juice in it so it was soooooo sweet this is not how to make a classic margarita. Now i should have complained about all of it but i just didnt want to make a big scene and seem like that guy. The server was very sweet even though i had to tell her she forgot to take the calamari off the bill. We generally love this place but it was a lot of money for a very disappointing dinner. Oh. As for covid the table next to us kept growing and growing until they were about 12 people there and they certainly were not 6' away.

Located across (but not directly) the street from Casa Blanca hotel, we arrive San Juan, checked in, then went across the street to check this place out. So the location was perfect. The service was exceptional. And the food incredible! I had the Mini Parrillada Pirilo which was a "meat" sampler on the appetizer menu. My husband had the octopus. Then later that evening we came back and enjoyed dessert, pecan pie for me. And then, after touring the island we came back to stay at the same place and eat at the same place. This time having pizza. It was scrumptious. Both times the service was wonderful and the food terrific! Oh, and the menu can be scanned to your phone.

If you want to be treated poorly and like an outsider this is the place to be. If you don't speak fluent spanish it will be hard to interact here. Other restaurants with better food, service, and prices: Serafina and Via Appia's
Firstly, with a party of 5, we put our names down for about a 45 minute wait. We returned after an hour where the very rude host (Ricardo) would only speak in Spanish to our friend who lives here in PR. He told us that we were up next and would be about another 15 minutes. We return around that time where he then realizes he called the wrong number (huh??), sat some random party, and had already crossed our names off the list.
At this point we are starving so he says we will be seated next. No apology or anything. As we stand there, he actually seats a party of 11 who had only been there 30 minutes and we watch as he brings them upstairs. I guess he feels guilty about that so he also sends us upstairs (out of sight out of mind I guess) to wait by their bar. We literally are like blocking the entrance because it is an awkward spot to be. I am assuming that Ricardo did not tell his manager about us as we stand there for another 15 minutes in the doorway and not once did anyone ask if we needed help.
I, a native English speaker, try to flag down the manager and twice he brushes me off without letting me explain myself. After another party of 6 gets seated right in front of us, I again try and speak to the manager who flags us down and tells me to wait without letting me explain how I think Ricardo did not tell anyone about our current 2 hour wait situation. He brushes me off and my friend who speaks spanish and lives in PR is the ONLY person to get him to stop moving and explains. Again, no apologies for the situation, but seats us at the next opportunity.
Look, mistakes happen and I get it. But a lack of apology, attempts to fix the situation, or even the ability to look me in the eye was disappointing. There is poor communication all around. Add on to that some weak food, I would recommend going somewhere else to eat. Overpriced as well.
I had the mushroom ravioli and found it entirely too salty as well as a piece of linguini on my plate meaning they don't clean or even rinse their pans in between cooks. Pizza was undercooked, but I did enjoy the prosciutto they had. Server was bare bones and minimally interactive with us. Manager did not come by once during the meal which was totally okay but I did wish he would at least have apologized once for the 2 hour+ wait time and mistake by Ricardo. I would not trust a restaurant who doesn't take responsibility when they make a mistake as I can't imagine how that would affect quality of their food.

Pizza Rustica is just up the block from our hotel so we stopped in - more than once. The house Sangria with crushed, candied almonds and is delicious - not too sweet but rich and fruity. It's a MUST TRY, even for non-wine drinkers like we are!
We shared at least 2 different personal pizzas, several tapas and their Puerto Rican style rice & beans and all were delicious. Great service, too, and very reasonably priced. Should you order more than you can eat, they are more than happy to pack it as takeout.
Just a lovely, local restaurant in the heart of Old San Juan. We will return.

The place is a rustic old building with a unique decor. Prefer the second floor seating as us roomier and has better natural light. The stair to the second floor are steep but need to keep in mind this is a very old building retrofitted to a restaurant. Large selection of pizza combinations. You can request 1/2 of one selection and the other 1/2 of a different one. Good and friendly service. The desserts also good. The brownie with gelato was excellent.

Visited for lunch while exploring Old San Juan. Family ordered pizza, steak and salads. Starters were unique and delicious - cassava chips with hummus, stuffed mushrooms, octopus all were great. The pizza was so good, lots of toppings to choose from and a regular size pizza feeds 3-4 people easily. Service was good, prices are reasonable.
Highly recommend this place for a quality meal.

Cirilo's pizza is an unexpected pleasant surprise to your taste spuds. I have never tasted anything like it. The combination of ingredients used in their pizzas is unique and tasty. If you are a meat lover you should try "El Pecado".

Pirilo on Calle de la Tanca in San Juan is a great place to go for delicious pizza and drinks. I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant and all that they have to offer here. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating to make sure that you have everything that you need.

We went here on recommendation from a friend and it was delicious. Don’t let the outside fool you, they don’t seat downstairs and so it can be deceiving if it is busy or not.
We enjoyed the provoleta and croquetas as an appetizer and they were both great. The provoleta is melted provolone and mozzarella served with bread - what more could you want!!
We also had the pirilo pizza on our friend’s recommendation and it was our favorite. It is almost a Puerto Rican take on a Hawaiian pizza with sweet plantains. Definitely one to try. They will also let you do half and half options with the pizza so you can try other kinds.
This is a must try while in Old San Juan.

We just happened upon this hidden gem called Pirilo Pizza Rustica. Juan was our waiter, who eagerly described some of his favorite pizzas. We ended up trying three, each one being very unique. My favorite had skirt steak, sausage and fried plantains with a little spice. My daughter loved the carbonara version and we all found the one with red onions, mushrooms, goat cheese with a drizzle of truffle sauce, to be very good as well but not our favorite. The atmosphere is an old world feel, which is exactly what we love. Perfect for pictures. Don’t forget to try the Pina Coladas with fresh coconut on top and don’t forget to ask for Juan. He’ll bend over backwards to be sure your meal is perfect.

It pains me to say this place is apparently another casualty of Covid. We have been here many times prior to 2017. Just returned this evening for dinner, and it was unspectacular. Eggplant parmigiana was very forgettable, pizza was average and service was horrible (common theme in PR). They are still holding onto the Covid excuse crutch. Go elsewhere.

So after doing a food walking tour for lunch, I opted for non-local food for dinner. Pizza fit the bill. They have the front door blocked so they can check your status and they limit who can go it. I ordered my pizza to go at the door and laid there as well. It took longer than they said for it to be ready, but it was piping hot when they gave it to me. I got a personal mucho mushroom pizza and it was very yummy. I also wish for more mushrooms and this could have done with a ton more to make me happy. Still so good.
