the highest praises for Tomas and Le Papillon. we went there for our 20th wedding anniversary. the place is in a jungle setting, very quaint. tomas is an outstanding chef. when we got there, the lights were out, but that didn't deter Tomas.. candles on...the table, and a mini light bar which we didn't use. the menu is fantastic, with sizable portions. tomas the owner and chef, bends over backwasrds to make your visit outstanding.. tomas brought out a heart shaped piece of black forest cake for our anniversary dessert, which was outstanding. when we were ready to leave Tomas put the beautiful bouquet of flowers from our in a bag for my wife to take with here. this made her dayMore
We arrived to find a small restaurant hidden away in the jungle atmosphere. A very eclectic mix of artifacts and a very lovable easy going owner/cook. A very unique experience highlighted with an exquisite meal. I ordered the smoked salmon, the wife the shrimp. The...plating was so intricate and design showed both talent and skill. The salmon dish was presented with a glass covered top where smoke was captured and wafted out when lifted in front of me. The meal was excellent and Thomas was such a lovable friendly fellow.. We will surely miss him. If we ever travel back to Peurto Plata we will definitely be back for a meal.More
Our Nov/dec stay at Cofresi included eating close to the beach
So El pilion was our eating establishment, keep in mind during slow season (not high season) this building was the buffet for the Cofresi side, it was used due to closing down the “Pearl...“ so our experience here was based on it being a buffet
We enjoyed the hard working employees eager to please us, making sure we had enough drinks and clearing dishes off the table, etc
The salad bar was quite good with three types of lettuce and a beavy of fresh fruit and other veggies
Overall it was quite enjoyable, the only downside was the newly remodeled men’s bath with it not being completed
At that time it lacked 2 urinals, and no soap to was hands (we brought our own)
A recent visit to the next door Tropical included a stop at the “pilion “ finding it had reverted to its normal restaurant mode
The men’s now includes a second urinal and ta da now a soap dispenser
So our experience was most positive at this location
There is a waiter we would like to give a shout out for who went over and above for service
We don’t remember his name but he wore “white “ colored glasses
If you visit here make sure he is your waiter and he will impress you too
Make sure to bring $1 tips and or candy, they enjoy this a lot and tend to render better service
Best of all just enjoy your vacationMore

sorry but you posted this review to the wrong location. the name of my restaurant is Le Papillon and not el Pilion ,its not at the beach and its open for dinner only.
BEST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER! I WILL BE BACK AGAIN!!!
Thomas is such a gracious host in the food and atmosphere combined made this an incredible dining experience. What a wonderful place, magical really!
Tomas will greet you upon entering you can tell instantly that He is delighted you have chosen LePapillon. You will enjoy the open air dining area, unique and interesting decor.. you will soon perceive the great pride Tomas takes in His Restaurant, service and your...complete satisfaction.
Order anything on the menu, you will not be disappointed, Tomas is so willing to please, so ask Him any questions. He is always cordial, witty and a pleasure to be with.
I have dined at LePapillon about 20 times, always with my Wife and several other friends. We have all enjoyed every visit. Tomas is a world class chief whom we all would give 10 stars if possible. There is a reason why LePapillon is rated #1 year after year, this is not by Tomas simply trying harder, He Just Does It. Superb steaks last nigh Tomas. For all you do, Hungry Man says THANK YOU.More
My wife and I have been coming to the DR for 9 consecutive years. We stay with friends at their private residence near Sosua. A visit to Le Papillon is a must during every visit. It’s Number One of all restaurants in Puerto Plata for...a reason namely, Chef Thomas who provides excellent service, congeniality, and cuisine par excellence. Might be No. 1 in all of the North Coast.More

You will need to hire a taxi , but well worth the trip , short ride . We were at Grand Paradise and went twice ! Get a reservation, the seating is very limited but that is what makes it so special. Enjoy !
