Food and ambience

Local cuisine, Caribbean, Latin, Seafood, Mediterranean, European
Open since 1967, built inside a quaint natural cave, acclaimed by the New York Times as a landmark of the city of Santo Domingo. An eclectic cuisines characterize by fusions of local and Spanish dishes. Recently opened and outdoor terrace with a unique wood fire exterior kitchen, from where chefs interact with clients. The terrace has its own menu with a very excellent relation of value/quality. A recently installed elevator connects the lobby to some forty feet down to both the restaurant and the outside terrace. The terrace temperature is kept comfortable through the means of a misting system which adapts perfectly to the lush tropical garden. Live music is played every night from tuesday

Very unique dining inside a cave. Food was great but they did mix up our orders for the gourd of 10.

This was one of those restaurant experiences you won’t want to miss. The atmosphere is matched by the quality of the food. We were with a large group where between all 10 of us we tried all different types of food on the menu. Everyone...enjoyed their meal so much it encouraged sharing the food with each other just to try the spectacular tastes. It is a little pricey but, you get what you pay for.More

An absolutely incredible restaurant! Had a late lunch on a Monday and the place was already a bit busy. All three spaces are gorgeous, but the inside of the cave is something else! The cave is beautiful, very raw (although they did add some designs,...such as some pirate drawings) and the feeling inside it is a bit chilly, which is a great refresh for Santo Domingo's extreme hot weather. The food was spectacular, we ordered the paella and it was delicious and quite plentiful! The wine was great, the staff was great and courteous and the decoration was also lovely and upscale. Definitely worth visiting! And may I recommend going for lunch, since their menu is quite vast and you may have more time to digest it all nice and easy.More

The restaurant El Meson de la Cava is a wonderful restaurant. It is beautifully located and well maintained. Everything is very well intertwined here. (The nature and the restaurant). There is a large terrace and there is a small cave in which you can eat....Both are really beautifully designed. For the cave you should reserve in any case. The atmosphere in this place is very good. It is something different. The menu was available as a QR code. This is as a foreigner a little harder if you have no internet (wifi reception was poor on the terrace) but the waitress has her wifi shared by cell phone. The food was outstanding. Everything is freshly prepared and you notice the high quality. Our paella was made fresh and you could taste it. The service was always on hand and very attentive. This has also given a lot of effort to overcome the language barrier. Price-wise, this restaurant is of course a bit more expensive than normal, but I find the prices fair and not exaggerated. This is reflected in the general quality. For me, this restaurant is a must when you are in Santo Domingo. Atmosphere and food fits well together here.More

Worst experience ever with El Meson de la Cava!! El Meson de la Cava made numerous mistakes on my wedding day. They refused to recognize any of THEIR errors (changing my wedding date last minute, serving wrong food) and gave us the run around when...we tried to speak with them. I left their establishment today after I was YELLED AT by their OWNER who didn't even give me a chance to voice ANY of my concerns. I am writing this to WARN anyone who is thinking of using Eventos Mesondelacava DO NOT DO IT. You'll regret it. The owner is completely UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE. I consider myself reasonable. Yet this restaurant has failed at each turn. They rescheduled my wedding only one month from when it was scheduled, without any compensation. They acted like they were doing ME a favor to let me hold my event there. On the day of my wedding, THEY SERVED THE WRONG MENU, about an HOUR after we had been sitting there waiting. Then they OVERCHARGED us. We have been trying to rectify this with the events coordinator but she started to ignore us. We had to GO TO THE RESTAURANT. She refused to give the name of her supervisor and when the owner came (after another hour or more waiting) she stormed in, started yelling at me, and stormed out!!! I was unable to express ANY of my concerns to her. It saddens me that when I think of my WEDDING I will always have a sour taste in my mouth on how my family and I were treated. The WORST possible service ever. The servers were fine and even the General Manager Ricardo was sympathetic, but ultimately he had to defer all decisions to his supervisors. THE EVENT COORDINATOR AND OWNER are where EVERYTHING FAILED. When owners think they are better than their patrons, that is an issue. As customers, OUR MONEY PAYS YOUR BILLS. Seems she forgot that. I write this again, only to WARN anyone thinking about working with this restaurant. DO NOT DO IT. You will regret working with them. They will nickel and dime you until they suck out every red cent they can from you. #mesondelacava #festindominical #unoenunmillon #thecave #morelikethehole #unprofessional #rudeMore

Event coordinator, Nicaury Caba, was a delight to work with until she got PAID and then disregarded ALL PLANS! THE buffet was completely wrong, my sister, the bride, couldn't even eat what was served! The buffet was put out over an HOUR LATE, and so...they just kept happily bringing out drinks to rack up the drink bill which ended up being HALF of what the entire buffet for 35 people cost- without alcohol! Then to avoid ending her wedding day in tears- my sister agreed to come back the following week to talk to a superior, (so they could at the very least not charge for the water that we drank for THE HOUR THEY WERE LATE ) who she waited for over an hour...only to have the owner arrive yelling at her that she would NOT get a free wedding!😳😲😡 DO NOT RUIN YOUR EVENT with these people! Once they get paid- they DON'T CARE about their clients or doing what's right! Go anywhere else - it's NOT WORTH THEIR INFLATED PRICES OR STUFFY CAVE!More

As a romantic dinner option, this place is tops! When we celebrated our anniversary, the restaurant even went the extra mile with a decorated dessert. Service was great, and food was passable. It's all about the ambiance here, folks!

This place is a jewel when it comes to architecture. It’s almost surreal. Nature when you least expect it. The location is great. The band playing that night was simply amazing, great ambiance. However, the food was a big disappointment. Blend, unattractive and pricey for...what it was. Although it’s a must seen place but definitely not for the food. So, go for the site but for the food. Big improvement needed.More
