Good retro restaurant serving Cuban food including Ropa but also some tapas dishes if you want something light. The wine here is great and I love the style of the restaurant. It did get busy later on in the evening. I would say this is...mid range and has a good environment.More
My husband and I had heard about this place from friends in New York who had spent time in Cuba. We were not disappointed! Went for lunch, and ordered seafood risotto and topaz viejas-both exceptional. A chocolate pie for dessert was lovely, as well. Loved...the vibe and staff, and it was probably one of our best meals. Food access is complicated in Cuba, and I can imagine for restaurants it can be hard to be innovative and practical at the same time. Lamparilla does a great job of it, without charging astronomical prices.More
We, a family of 6 from Denmark, visited Havana/Cuba for a few weeks, and this place was one of our favorite places to eat. We were 3 generations represented and everyone loved both the food and the drinks. The staff is friendly and professional, the...vibe is both vintage and modern. Definitely worth a visit!More
The food is to die for. I visited very often and tried a lot from the menu and all of the food was superb. Drinks are amazing too. You have the try the milk fritters for dessert! Staff are very friendly and attentive. One of...my favorites in cubaMore
Lamparilla is on a small side street in Old Havana but not in the main part of all the craziness. Lamparilla is one of the main streets in Old Havana but you will still have to look a bit to find this restaurant. On the...other hand, many people have found it and it was quite busy on the night we were there. I loved the mix of tapas and main courses. We had the Ropa Vieja which was the best we had anywhere (in my opinon -- and we had some good ones). There is some discussion I heard from one of the chef's at another restaurant about exactly what spices to put into a Ropa Vieja. In this one you could really taste the cumin -- which I really liked. Others that we tried were delicious and melt in your mouth, but less spiced. So I guess it is personal preference, but I thought this was the best. We also had a really wonderful eggplant tapas with chukrut. I am still not sure what chukrut is but it was really delicious. And we had the Corn Bread with Sweet Chicken that was also amazing. The ceviche and the crab with chili were less successful -- still completely edible, but I wouldn't have ordered them a second time. What was also really worth ordering was the mojito -- you have a choice of a classic mojito or with fruit. They offer a number of fruit choices -- I had the mango and it was the best one I had in Cuba. A little bit thicker because of the mango juice, but still minty and a nice taste of rum. Memorable. The place itself is small and casual with a lot of memorabilia as a decorative element. It's fun and a bit different, with some classic Cuban options, but also some fresh ideas, which is nice. We really enjoyed the Cuban food but there is a certain repetitiousness, so Lamparilla offers a fresh perspective. Prices were reasonable -- around 60 CUC for three people with drinks.More
We visited for lunch during our few days in Havana and it was fab. Struggled to find it at first, especially with limited internet meaning no use of Google Maps, but we managed and discovered it down an unassuming street.
The menu was typical tapas...as we had hoped. We ordered a mix of meats, cheeses, bread, croquettes and meatballs and it was all brilliant, washed down with a local beer.
Great spot for an easy bit of food just off the beaten track - and still only 10 min walk from our hotel.More
