This place had been on my rotation for years. It appears that they have renovated. I would hazard to guess that during the renovation, everyone was laid off. I would further guess that the good wait staff found jobs somewhere else. My experience was that...the remaining or existing wait staff is less than the old wait staff. Sat waiting for drinks ordered quite some time ago as the wait staff stand around and talk. Food was o.k.. I would guess that people like sitting here to stare out over the malecon. Food was passable but service was notMore

Nice location with sea view, very quiet, some good options for food. Service not too slow (for Cuban standards). Good portions.

I had the octopus, which was a little bit tough, but still delicious. Our meal was great, and it was so fun to watch the activity on the Malecón and see the beautiful sunset.

I just experienced the worst dinner I have had on over 20 years in Havana. Sent it back twice and still could not have a second bite. And it was still on the bill. There are too many good options in Havana to eat here.

Its a bit hit & miss looking for great restaurants in Old Havana - internet does not work well, so getting Tripadvisors tips is hard (do your research ahead of time) I was taking photos of the sunset along Melecon when we saw this restaurant...beside a delegated building, so we though we'd check it out. Lots of people eating there - always a good sign. We got seats right on the front patio, so watching the people go by and seeing the final sunset was a bonus. We had the fresh fish catch of the day - absolutely delicious - it came with plantains and I ordered a salad to go along with it. My friend had not had a Mojito - a traditional Cuban highball - and we were not disappointed - Perfect place to have a drink/meal and watch the sunsetMore

We were staying in the Malecon and came across this restaurant on our first night. There was a good choice of Cuban food and pizzas. I chose the shrimps which came with a choice of two side orders so I went for the fried plantains...and rice. My husband chose the chicken and ribs. Both were very good and good value too. You can sit outside, so if you’re there at sunset you’re in for a treat watching the sunset and the open top, American classic cars cruising past. We went two more times whilst we were there and each meal was a good. Would definitely recommend this place.More

We did not have a good experience at Castropol at all, contrary to all the reviews we saw raving about this restaurant. Our waitress was rude, the restaurant was out of chicken, and the atmosphere was lacking. I ended up ordering pasta with tomato sauce...since they were out of the baked chicken. It wasn’t bad and my cousins enjoyed their food, but I wouldn’t waste my time returning here.More

We visited our family in June and decided to go back and try this restaurant again after our fabulous experience the first time , so I decided to go ahead alone and make the reservations in person When we return we were met by the...manager who remembered us and the same waiter Carlitos. The restaurant has an awesome view of the Malecon from either the inside or patio dinning area and the building itself stands out among the other buildings in this area The building is beautiful looking and has a spectacular outside seating area With clear views of the Malecon Once we sat down we were greeted by the same singers from our first trip and to our surprise the music was also awesome This was the perfect combination perfect food, perfect service, perfect dinner show. The best part about this restaurant is the quite reasonable prices for its location and the service that it offers along with the food which is quite delicious whether you’re having seafood or meat. Keep up the great work!More

You cannot avoid the Malecon because it weaves so much of Havana culture and eating pleasures. Its certainly popular so reservations are prudent. The restaurant enjoys spectacular views of Vedado and the Atlantic briny. However its the seafood that one concentrates with salivating appreciation. Surprisingly...my daughter plumped for the lamb ribs netting her a ring of juice around her face. She declared it a triumph. My ceviche entree was excellent and the mains fish of the day, whole of-course, was chilli’d heaven . We lingered with a couple of Cuban tipples which proved a perfect recommendation from our waiter who performed Miri all with limited vocabulary but plenty of zeal and gusto.More

We stopped in here for dinner on our first night in Havana, based on the recommendation of our casa particular. We also read good reviews in the Lonely Planet. It is located right on the Malecon, with excellent views of the fort and the ocean....We ordered sangria to drink, which was good but sweet. We also ordered the fried chickpeas to start. The portion was larger than expected and had sausages, which was an added bonus. I ordered the paella and my friend ordered the beefsteak “Havana style”. All was very delicious. We sat on the upstairs balcony overlooking the Malecon and the ocean, and enjoyed the sunset views and the people watching.More

The building stands out on this part of the Malecon as it has been beautifully restored and shines amongst the dilapidated houses nearby. We went for dinner about 8.30pm and the place was buzzing. We managed to get a table straight away as it's quite...a big place spread over two floors, but a little later people had to wait a bit for a table. While in Cuba, you have to start with rum cocktails, and both the rum Collins and mojitos were excellent. The menu features Cuban and Italian as well as the expected Spanish food. My vegetarian partner had a limited choice, but pronounced himself quite pleased with a huge pizza quattro formaggi. I had very nice cordero en chilindron, a dish from northern Spain featuring lamb cooked with sweet red peppers, and it was very tasty, indeed. The chunk of sweetcorn and plantain fritters were an odd accompaniment, but I suppose they added some local flavour. We also had a very fresh mixed salad - I can't remember whether we ordered it separately, or if it came with my main dish, but there was enough for the two of us to enjoy. We just managed one dessert to share, a rather good lemon tart. Service was brisk but attentive, and, although they were very busy, we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Our bill incl. a tip was CUC36 which was slightly higher, but then this is one of Havana's more upmarket restaurant. A lovely evening, deserving a repeat visit.More

This restaurant was our first stop of the trip and the service was really good, the server spoke English and was very funny. The service was not as fast as we expected but it was a great experience overall, the view was really good and...the overall atmosphere was welcoming and warm. The food tasted great, the portions were very generous and the temperature was spot on. Many dishes were meant to be shared. I definitely recommend this restaurant. We went for dinner but they also serve breakfast and lunch.More

Visited for breakfast which they serve until midday. Very affordable 3CUC, for two fried eggs served with toasted sliced baguette bread, also came with choice of fruit juice. Really good coffee with milk and you can sit outside overlooking the sea.

Pro : Location is excellent. With a view of El Malecon. Perfect place to have a drink/meal and watch the sunset. Cocktails, Dessert and Coffee was the highlight of our night. The atmosphere, ambience and overall vibe was excellent. Cons: Service - The staff was...not welcoming, unfriendly. Our waitress just seems so dry, and did not want to be bothered and didnt feel like she wanted to be there. Food - below Average. My Seafood Paella was TOO Salty. Prices - Above Average. Will not return. With so many great restaurants in Havana, this one you can take skip it.More

Outstanding service by Carlitos our waiter just OUTSTANDING!! The food was great(outstanding) admittedly we ate downstairs versus upstairs which I believe made all the difference in the world The music they played at our table that night was awesome, and the view of the seawall and...ocean was also great Nothing went wrong it was the best restaurant to date that I have eaten at in all of Havana ,along with the best service and we were a party of 8. I wish I could recall the managers name that wore the white shirt To him I would like to extend a special THANK YOU for offering me the most delicious Tamale en cazuela that I have had to date!! I will add this if any of the food that came out that was not to our liking, Carlitos had the kitchen replace it immediately no questions asked, that is what actually happen with a small appetizer which was slightly over cooked for one of the people in a partyand I mean replaced ASAP I found this a refreshing breath of fresh air, OTHER restaurants just made UP excuses. I will definitely will be going back,More
