The building stands out on this part of the Malecon as it has been beautifully restored and shines amongst the dilapidated houses nearby. We went for dinner about 8.30pm and the place was buzzing. We managed to get a table straight away as it's quite...a big place spread over two floors, but a little later people had to wait a bit for a table.
While in Cuba, you have to start with rum cocktails, and both the rum Collins and mojitos were excellent. The menu features Cuban and Italian as well as the expected Spanish food. My vegetarian partner had a limited choice, but pronounced himself quite pleased with a huge pizza quattro formaggi. I had very nice cordero en chilindron, a dish from northern Spain featuring lamb cooked with sweet red peppers, and it was very tasty, indeed. The chunk of sweetcorn and plantain fritters were an odd accompaniment, but I suppose they added some local flavour. We also had a very fresh mixed salad - I can't remember whether we ordered it separately, or if it came with my main dish, but there was enough for the two of us to enjoy. We just managed one dessert to share, a rather good lemon tart.
Service was brisk but attentive, and, although they were very busy, we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Our bill incl. a tip was CUC36 which was slightly higher, but then this is one of Havana's more upmarket restaurant. A lovely evening, deserving a repeat visit.More
