My wife and I were greeted at the front of the food truck by a nice gentleman (Chef Tham's Fiance) who walked us through their best-selling sandwiches, including the hamburger and lion fish. We've had lion fish tacos at other places and were determined to try the lion fish sandwich here, so we ordered two. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Since it was our last day on the island, we regretted not going sooner so that we could have gone again. The prices are steep (the lion fish price was noted as "Market Price"), but everything else was comparable to other food prices on the island. The local drinks are great too, and we particularly enjoyed the passion fruit bottle (Fresh Juice) , despite not being a fan of those normally. Overall, I highly recommend Cactus Blue. We wish we had gone sooner during our trip to try other tasty treats they offer.

Hi Gldouglass, Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed our food and hospitality as they are meant to be ' on top of our game'. Usually, there is a 'next time' to Bonaire, so in the future, we'd love to welcome you back for our other menu items. Thanks for recommending Cactus Blue Foodtruck and we hope you had a great time on our island too! Sunny Regards, Chef Tham

We stopped here to eat a lionfish burger. Unfortunately, these always sell out very quickly. So we were late too. Alternatively, we opted for a beef burger and a wrap as recommended by the seller. Both were definitely very tasty, but far too greasy for us. Here you can already see that the shop is more geared towards American customers, who are used to greasy food. The area around the food truck is nicely done. There are a few cushions on stones under the trees on the beach. So everything is kept simple, but still nice. Aside from the greasy food, we were a little bothered by the seller's somewhat pushy manner. He has a rather aggressive way of advertising to customers and runs the same program with every guest. Here you get a 5-minute lecture about the selection and recommendation, including advertising how well known the chef is for her burgers. At the latest when he had the printed Trip Advisor reviews in his hand and read them out to us, it was too much for us. Less would be more here. But it works, we were a bit taken by surprise and instead of just sharing a burger as planned, we ended up buying a burger, a wrap and 2 drinks. All in all, a nice shop and if you can tolerate fatty food and deal with very talkative salespeople, it's definitely worth a visit.

Hi Firediverlars, My name is Chef Tham (owner). Thank you for choosing to have lunch with us and I am happy to read that the food was delicious. At the same time, I am sorry that we did not fully meet your expectations and I appreciate the feedback. We strive to offer our guests a great food and drink experience, including friendly service. I am sorry to read that you did not experience the hospitality of my host as it is meant to be. It is his job to inform our guests and consistently provide them with the same information. However, I will certainly discuss his ways with him. Had you shared these comments immediately with me as the owner on the spot, I would have spoken to him about this immediately and perhaps have made your experience at Cactus Blue different. Regarding our food: there's no arguing about taste, and I'm happy that you enjoyed our food and our cozy ocean-front spot with the turquoise Caribbean water. We hope to give you a better experience in the future and are happy that you recommend our little truck on Bonaire.
 Sincerely, Chef Tham

This quickly became our favorite food spot on the island during our visit! The lionfish burgers are DELICIOUS. So good that the last day we ate there on our trip they only had three left and we were fighting over who in our group got them. They were both really kind and personable and we will absolutely be back on our next trip to the island. This is a walk up food truck, so bring cash and expect to hang out and enjoy the scenery both while you wait and while you eat!

Drove by after reading a nice story about food trucks on Bonaire. Short story heard on the spot. Ordered a day later and at checkout it turned out that, unlike other food trucks such as Pastechi and more, they could only accept cash. The man present does nothing in the way of hospitality, but keeps talking and repeating the story. After the PIN payment was made at the airport, he calmly finishes his conversation and lets you wait with the drink. Later some experiences, where talking to new customers is preferable to hospitality! In short, food is tasty, but quite expensive, hospitality and service are mediocre!

Zonnige Groet, Chef Tham

The burgers are quite delicious, but the Lion Fish Burger with its proud $26 is not worth the price. The environment is kept simple with the seat cushions on the stones but very welcoming. The seller was too intrusive for us and we were caught off guard by Art. Although the prices are written in dollars, he had charged us the burgers in euros, which was of course more due to the conversion rate. He almost made a bit of a greedy impression on us. On questions he had asked us and we wanted to answer, he had not waited for the answer.

Hi Caroline, My name is Chef Tham (owner). Thank you for choosing to have lunch at our small food truck and for your feedback. I'm sorry to learn that you did not appreciate my host's (maybe) over-enthusiastic service. That is certainly not the intention, and for that, I would like to offer my sincere apologies. The fact that you were there during the most intense & busy period of our year does not change that. Everyone should be made to feel more than welcome with us. Accepting Euros on Bonaire, though, is not common. The US Dollar is the only legal tender, and sometimes we help our guests (always at a 1 to 1 rate stated in advance by my host) if they pay with Euros. That saves on having to drive to an ATM first and come back when it is just your turn to order. It also saves them from high ATM fees for cash withdrawals. The exchange rate difference at the time of your visit was 0.02 cents per dollar, which means the price increase for the service you received with your order was around 1 dollar. Hopefully, we can welcome you again in the future for our other menu items that are also priced very differently, and we can then offer a completely different experience.
 Sunny Greetings, Chef Tham

Made a purposeful stop to try the Lionfish burger reviewed highly on TA. Unfortunately we were told they sell out very early in the day (and the price is a bit high- $25). We opted to stay after a sales pitch about the truck being known for beef as well. We shared a burger and ground meet wrap as recommended by representative of the truck. Both were enjoyable and the wrap was better of the 2. Drink recommended was not worth the hype. The truck does provide an "eat-in area" of cushioned crated but no shade. While we sat to eat we did hear the script perse of the representative taking orders on repeat. Food was tasty and if you are in the area its worth a stop.

Hi Reneew, Thank you for stopping at our little Food Truck and trying our food. Taste is a very personal thing and there is no accounting for taste, whether about food or drinks. I am glad that you enjoyed it and found our food to be tasty, and that you believe it to be worth a stop. I'm also happy to hear that my host is consistent in his story and provides our guests with the same important information. Hope to welcome you back on Bonaire sometime soon! Sincerely, Chef Tham

That was a surprise and happy stop for us, a dive between the dives... The top–of–the menu Cactus Burger (instructions on devouring this friendly monster made of TWO ADULT-SIZE BURGERS were readily provided, thank you!) You can also partake of the lion fish here – a local delicacy. Best food, best service, no skimping on quality and quantity here, as well as the friendly smiles and prompt service. One correction – this Cactus Burger's price is outside the stated $10 window. It's worth it though, hands down. @YuraDashevsky

Back from diving and hungry, we happened to notice a food truck with the sign: "Lionfish Burger here". We know lionfish as divers, but the fact that you can catch them safely and then eat them was new to us. So we stopped. The food truck team welcomed us very warmly and explained everything about the problem with lionfish in the Caribbean. It is not native here and therefore a danger to the reef inhabitants. So Stinapa started an initiative and allows specially trained divers to spear hunt the voracious fish. We ordered a lionfish burger and beef wrap and a chicken burger, of course. We were able to enjoy the freshly prepared food right on the beach (Corporal Meiss diving spot) with a homemade lemonade. The Cactus Blue team's prediction that we would come back came true. We went there twice more during our vacation and spontaneously even took a lionfish hunting course and were able to catch two lionfish accompanied by a guide and prepare them in the holiday home. Thank you Cactus Blue for the culinary experience and inspiration!

First off, the food truck is adorable. Secondly, you are welcomed by total Bonaire hospitality and the delicious smells coming from the truck. Lastly and most importantly, the food lived up to the hype and exceeded our expectations. We ordered the Lionfish Burger and Classic Cheeseburger. Each had a perfect amount of grilled flavor, sauces, and toppings. By the end of our meal on the beach, I had deliciousness all over my hands. Please just go! Do yourself and your tastebuds a favor and just go!

A visit to Bonaire is not complete without a visit to cactus blue. Last year I already praised the chef/owner for her burgers. To date, the only burger that I can really appreciate... and yes: it really needs to be inspected again. I can say, cactus blue is and remains my recommendation for the food truck on Bonaire. Enjoy, take it easy, be tempted by the lion fish burger, but especially consider the famous kiteburger and/or the ground beef wrap. Grab a nice drink from smooth operators (Harry will be happy to tell you about the story and flavors of these juices) and be surprised by the great taste of the food prepared by Thamara. And we? We are now unsure whether we are more looking forward to our next visit to the island, or cactus blue.

This was our 4th visit to Bonaire and our 1st visit to the Cactus Blue truck. We have tried to visit during every visit to Bonaire, but they have always been on vacation. We were excited to finally give it a try. Cactus Blue is known for their famous Lionfish burger. On our first attempt, we arrived at 11:30 (they open at 11:00) and they were already out of Lionfish. During our second attempt, we arrived at 10:55 and were 3rd in line. Success!! In addition to the Lionfish burger we ordered the ground beef wrap. The Lionfish burger came in at a steep $25 and the wrap was much more reasonable at $14. Both were very good, but I'd go back for the wrap.

Hi Mousemott, Thank you for taking the time to write a review starting with ‘very good food’. I am happy to read that you found our Lionfish Burger and the Ground Beef Wrap very good. Delicious food made with love is what we provide in a very consistent manner. We are also consistent in informing our guests about our opening times and vacations, about the fact that the Lionfish oftentimes runs out early in the day depending on supply & demand, and why the Lionfish is priced the way it is. If you have any questions about the Lionfish my Host will happily give you all the info on it on your next visit. Hope to welcome you back soon.

What a fantastic food truck this is! The lionfish burger, which is not sold anywhere else on the island, is very special to taste. But the beef here is truly divine. We went to this food truck 3 times during our holiday because it is really worth it. Perhaps our only mistake was that we tasted the kite burger on the 2nd day of our holiday, which meant that the other burgers at other tents were disappointing. Nothing can match the taste sensation you taste here! I haven't even mentioned the delicious local fruit juices they have. And they have created a nice comfortable spot where you can sit here and there to eat your food quietly. Customer service is a 100/100!

By far the best burger on the island. I asked for the burger to be cooked rare like every where else but the Cactus Blue was the only place that may my expectation. They were so friendly and nice. The only disappointing thing was that we didn't try them until the day before we were leaving. If you're looking for great service and fantastic food cooked the way you ask for it this is the only place you need to go. Also highly recommend the Mora juice!!!

I try to find lion fish whenever I travel to areas affected by this invasive species and thus when I stumbled onto Cactus Blue on the beach I was in. The young lady works inside the trailer preparing dishes while an associate works outside explaining the lion fish issue and the menu in general. The gentleman outside seemed a bit over the top and his mannerisms, while not rude, were less than welcoming. I do admit the speech he provided made me chuckle given his repetitive note on being the only provider of lion fish on a consistent basis on the island then a glance at the menu board showed “market price” for the lion fish burger. Now if one is the only provider, is it not he or she that establishes the price rather than the market? The reason I harp on this is I watched several customers order the lion fish burger and the price per changed from customer to customer. Some paid $25 a burger and others less. I felt a little taken by this seeming abuse of tourists. In regards to the burger, it was pleasant. Not an abundance of fish but well prepared and matched nicely with the sauce and toppings. Really a great burger. Don’t eat it in the car though, it’s messy and meant to be enjoyed that way. Take a sec and eat it on the beach, well worth it. One of our party had the beef burger and raved over it. No complaints, great flavour and consistently priced with other restaurants. List the price on the menu board, be up front with customers, otherwise, awesome.

Hi Casperunit, My name is Chef Tham, the cook, and owner of The Cactus Blue Food Truck. I’m glad your visit was generally awesome. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and - with that - allowing me to improve my small business on Bonaire. The fact that our food in your opinion has great flavor, and that it is consistently priced with other places makes me happy, yet I am a bit saddened about you not being happy with our host. If my employee came across as ‘not welcoming’ to you I sincerely apologize for that, as we are always happy with, and strive for the best service to all of our guests. I will certainly pay even more attention to him in the future. Please allow me to elaborate on your question mark regarding our market price for the Lionfish. We are indeed the only place on Bonaire serving Lionfish consistently for the last 8 years every day that we were open for business and we are very proud of that feat. The market price, though, is determined by the cost to obtain the fish and changes over time. By consistently buying the fish, we have kept the initiative of our hunters alive to go out there and kill them and thus kept our islands’ fish diversity abundant and our local reefs quite a bit healthier. This as you understand is essential to an island like Bonaire with its world-renowned scuba diving. With regards to the price changing from customer to customer: you are completely correct! Different toppings, or less, or more toppings on the Lionfish Burger indeed mean a different price. It would be inexcusable and also very short-sighted from a business standpoint to not be & do exactly the same for every one of our guests. Regarding listing the price on the menu board and being upfront about it: We have more and more non-divers from all over the world on our little island that have no clue what Lionfish is but still order it upon arriving at Cactus Blue. I believe we need to inform them about the Lionfish, as without this information they will likely not understand its price point. In my humble opinion, we have to explain this. That is why we inform our guests about the price, along with some invaluable information about the Lionfish and the problems this species causes in the Caribbean and on our island. I want to thank you for always trying to find and eat the invasive Lionfish whenever you travel and hope to welcome you back soon on our little spot on the ocean on Bonaire. Sincerely, Chef Tham

A MUST do while in Bonaire. The food is spectacular! Best meal we had during our island hoping vacation. The lion fish burger and fresh fruit juice was worth every penny. The regular burgers are also great. Amazing view, water access, and friendly staff. We go t to speak to the talented chef and learn about the oceans. Good for families, couples, and those traveling solo.
