Funky beach setting with good but expensive food

We had dinner for two on the beach and it was a very loud and slightly chaotic experience. Although we arrived early, the place was busy and it became absolutely packed within the time we were there. The seating and tables are very rustic (uncomfortable) and there is a very active and loud bar scene, so be prepared to be part of the fun. The live music (and recorded music during breaks) is good and did I mention, loud? So loud that you cannot hear the person across the very small table from you. The black and white movie playing on a sheet stung up between trees is fun and the bonfire on the beach was spectacular. There are a lot of staff here and they were working hard. Our food arrived after a bit of a wait, and it was good but not great and the portions were small for the price we paid compared to other places we have eaten on the island. It was a little odd when our server asked us very pointedly, twice, if we would rather tip in cash...while we were signing our credit card statement which did include a service charge. It seemed strange and we felt pressured to comply but did not have enough cash, so added it to the credit card. It made us feel very odd leaving. We will not be back.

Bohemian Beach Restaurant

La Cabane is a simply wonderful place to chill out and have a few drinks with friends . Its a short downhill walk from H1 near the Esso Station at Frank Worrall roundabout. It’s set out as a lounge area with casual seating for pre supper drinks and as a restaurant with tables and chairs. It’s all on the sand under the pine trees a few yards from the sea and the only lighting is from gas lamps so you’re not really going to see what you’re eating However , the food was just fine , and the fish in particular was excellent . The service was certainly enthusiastic if a bit lacking on occasions but then we weren’t in a rush But the atmosphere was really quite magical especially at night , what with the gas lamps and flame sticks flickering It was all rather wonderful ! That was until we came to pay the bill and here beware ! The waiter had 4 attempts at getting it right and having agreed to make deductions for food we thought was included ( ie he told us it was ) , he then sought to put things right from La Cabane’s point if view by doubling the service charge from 10% to 20% It took him 4 attempts to get the final bill correct ! Not good and we left slightly annoyed , but we did have a really wonderful evening overall . Just beware of the bill which should be scrupulously checked Finally , the toilet accommodation was superb Howard Jones 17/01/20

Buzzy and sophisticated

The turning to Batts Rock beach where La Cabane sits, is easy to miss driving up Highway 1 from Bridgetown towards Holetown. Look for the signs to the beach on the left and ignore GPS/satnav instructions which will take you past the main road to the beach and car park into a cul-de-sac from which parking is almost impossible. The main beach area has parking. Lovely small beach with few waves and the delightful La Cabane beach bar; good food, great, friendly service and cool shade. At the weekends, a reservation is advised; about BD$35 each for drinks, main course and sides. Great venue for lunch.

Amazing location, delicious food, terrible service

I've eaten at La Cabane 3 times now and every time the food is delicious, but the service is slow. This last time we our server was very slow, forgot to bring out one of the sides and charged us for a lobster that we didn't order. He didn't take responsibility for the mistakes and there was no apology. Left us feeling like we were intruding on their cool beach party instead of being valued customers. We're going to be looking for a different restaurant to take our friends and guests next time.

Disappointing !!!

We booked a table for four as we wanted to show our friends this beach venue after previously enjoying our last meal there. Unfortunately this time as we we’re shown to our table a DJ was directly behind us and it was deafening. The waiter said they’d turn the volume down but it was still far too loud. We had literally sat down for five minutes and decided we couldn’t endure any more so left. Why on earth do these places need to hire a DJ with full on club music at such a beautiful tranquil beachside setting. We won’t bother again as we prefer the Sea shed beach club which is nearer to us and has a better idea of how to combine a great dining experience with good music that isn’t blasting. I hope management read this and just turn it down a couple of decibels that’s all it needs. Let’s see if they respond to this comment always a sign they are taking feedback on board.

Fabulous!

Was surprised to see this place get so many mixed reviews - maybe we just struck lucky but we had the most fabulous experience. Booked a couple of days ahead and arrived to find we had been reserved a table at the front of the cafe with uninterrupted views of the ocean - such a joy as we were fortunate to witness a glorious sunset as we dined on delicious grilled fish and vegetables. Those serving us were attentive, courteous and helpful. The evening itself was lively with a great atmosphere and a fabulous steel band playing - no question we will return!

COULD BE BRILLIANT , BUT ...

the location and ambience are superb. a Fabulous place to enjoy a meal with your toes in the sand. However, we were virtually ignored on arrival with totally indifferent staff (though the service did improve during the meal.) v good rum punch ! we were warned that Roast Chicken takes half an hour - it actually took 1 hour 35 minutes to arrive. So, staff and kitchen issues stop this amazing location from being the best experience ever. what a shame.

Incredibly poor service and food

Waited 30 minutes to be seated after reservation time. Took 45 min to be served water after requesting multiple times. Horrible meat, great salads, total chaos of unsupervised staff-most staff standing around doing nothing. Great setting and location, triple check bill we were charged twice for drinks. We were offered complimentary drink for the poor service and food, server disappeared and did not com thru after 20 min of waiting. Unfortunate experience.

Fab Breakfast brunch

We arrived as a party of 3 to partake in the brunch menu. We were greeted with warm and friendly smiles and all health protocols of temperature testing and mask required info. Upon being seated at a prime table with an umbrella on the shoreline to relish the beauty and sounds of the waves breaking on the beachfront we were greeted by Rapheal our waiter. The dress code of the staff was casual (t-shirt, shorts and sandals) very fitting of the environs. Rapheal presented us with menus and provided water while we decided on our cocktails to accompany brunch. The service was attentive and personalised to fit. The cocktails were delicious and garnished nicely and the food that came shortly after was well presented and tasty. I decided on the omelette fully loaded but avocado was not available and an extra piece of toast would not have gone amiss. However it did not take away from the experience. The service and ambiance was great so we stayed on and invited two more to join our party for lunch and more cocktails. The ceviche and breadfruit chips were to die for and compliments from the others on their choices resounded. As it it was a particularly hot day it was very much appreciated the additional efforts made my Rafael to ensure water was constantly topped up and supplying an umbrella to a nearby table to maximise shade. Our outing to this establishment was greatly enjoyed and look forward to returning.

Fantastic Little Beach Bar

We were in Barbados for the first time, and on our first day were wandering around Bridgetown checking out the sights. We decided we needed a drink and a bite to eat, so jumped into a cab to take us to somewhere we had been the previous evening, however our driver intervened and said he'd take us to a good place, and boy was he right! He took us to La Cabane in the afternoon, we got a table with a fantastic view of the sea, and we indulged in our favourite wine and very tasty food. The service was great, everyone was so friendly, we had the best time! We had such a good time that we booked to return back to spend our last evening there, and we never go to the same place twice! We will come back again next time we're on the island, we loved it.

Hidden Treasure

While driving along the cost we decided to stop in at bats rock beach for a lay on the sand and maybe a swim. Nestled between the jungle directly on the sand was definitely a hidden treasure of a restaurant. I had just had a salad from another establishment but couldn't resist a peek at the menus. Surprisingly great selection of wines including my favourite Opus one can found on the wine list so I had to try the lamb racks that caught my eye from a nearby table. This meal was presented and tasted like what I would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Not quite fine dinning however as the waiters kept switching our orders of wine and food but we were on the beach so that didn't matter much. Obviously new a new establishment and not broken in service. Kudos!! We'll surely be back.

Great beach restaurant

Great beach restaurant serving tasty grilled food and drinks. The music mix is amazing, perfect vibe for an afternoon on the beach in Barbados. We recommend the grilled swordfish, chicken and hand-cut homemade fries (yum). So funny, they have a drink, ‘Covid Remedy’, of Herradura Tequila and Corona it has a spicy kick but it was good.

You just can’t beat this location, and the food was absolutely delicious. This is a spot I will always cherish the memory of eating breakfast at! We had the avocado tartine and the smoothie ... the smoothie came in a bowl and was soooo yummy! Also - the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly! This place is a keeper!

Toes in the sand

Bare foot beach cool, the rhythm of lapping waves and laid back tunes with the most personable of service. Food was the best of any venue on this trip... great produce sympathetically cooked, at the end of the day it’s a bbq but everything tasted super fresh. Pricey but generous. Just like it’s sun trap setting this spot let’s the flavour shine! This is my favourite lunch venue on the island!

Ambiance and music are not enough alone for a $350 experience

we had lunch here in February which was fabulous ………….what has gone wrong? Made a dinner reservation for Sunday one month ago however upon arrival it was not ready, no problem we shall have a drink at the bar, half hour later another drink at the bar. Eventually we (2 of us) were seated on a table for 8 as there were still no tables available. It had a bench seat which didn’t fit under the table so impossible to sit at ! Requested to wait for a proper table however we’re told there were none.We asked for a couple of chairs instead, they bought us 2 beach chairs to sit on😳. In hind sight at this point we should have left but have to say the music was fantastic. Food was very underwhelming, I had the New York strip @ $90 which 70% of was just fat the small amount of steak on it was inedible, when I mentioned it to the waiter he just cleared the plate away and said nothing. No one came to ask if they could bring anything else- where are the management in this place ?? Clearly taking more bookings than tables allow - So many better options on the island for a $350 meal. I’m afraid ambiance and music are not enough alone.
