Opening its doors in 1957, The Hog Penny is Hamilton’s oldest licensed establishment and has been a staple restaurant and local pub since. Formerly a bicycle shop selling Penny Farthing bicycles and then a meat slaughterhouse with massive ice blocks cooling the interior, The Hog Penny not only offers excellent food, drink and service, but has a deep history everyone can respect. Stop in and taste some of the best authentically local and British pub favourites that you will find in Bermuda, making it a must dine and drink spot for both locals and visitors. With fresh cuts of meats as a sign of respect from the butchery days, to the flavorful pies that come from our English ancestors best traditions, the food never disappoints at The Hog Penny. From Chicken Pot Pie and traditional Fish and Chips (our batter is made with our own locally brewed beer) to traditional pub curries, there is something here for everyone!

Excellent meal at reasonable (for Bermuda) price

One thing that’s not great about Bermuda is the high price of food so we were very pleasantly surprised to discover the special 3-course menu at Hog Penny. For $33 per person — a bargain by Bermuda standards — you choose a soup or salad, a main course (we had snapper and beef Wellington, both excellent), and dessert. The restaurant’s historical decor was interesting and the service was great.

I had a great afternoon cocktails with friends outside at tge build in dining area. Decided to taste their Burger, it does not look appealing when it was served since the bun looks burnt but when I have tasted it, I was wrong the burger was delicious coming with fries. Server was okay although did not offer us for another drink. I had this Banana Rama cocktail which sooth my preference.

Good Pub experience in Hamilton

The Hog Penny is a great little British Pub in the midst of downtown Hamilton. The draft beers were excellent and the various appetizers we chose for lunch were delicious. We had the Prime Rib Sliders, Sizzling shrimp scampi and Wahoo Nuggets...all of which were great. Would definitely return on next trip.

Amazing Food, Great Drinks, Wonderful Service

We just returned from a week in Bermuda and I miss the food at the Hog Penny almost as much as I miss the beach. The chateaubriand was the best I’ve ever had. The sauce on the fish was so good I was stuffed and kept eating anyway. The calamari is crisp and not greasy, with a perfectly spicy dipping sauce. The key lime pie and the sticky toffee pudding were just lovely. Melbert was our waiter for 3 nights at the Hog Penny(we were repeat visitors because it was clear from the first dinner that the food here is a sure thing) and he was friendly, efficient even on the night they had a larger crowd, and made us feel very much at home. I highly recommend this pub.

Not for vegetarians

By far the worst vegetarian food I've had in Bermuda. One option, a slab of tasteless but nuts. Considering how veggi friendly the rest of Bermuda is the place is a no go. It's almost like the cook is trying to discourage people from being vegitarian.

Great place for lunch!

Went for lunch on a reasonably warm January afternoon as they had ample outdoor seating. Between us we had a burger and their beer cheese fries and the sizzling prawns. All were really good a the beer cheese was really tasty, and quite a different flavour to many cheesy fries. Service was pretty quick and attentive despite one individual looking after all the outdoor tables alone. Would recommend for a lunchtime in Hamilton!

Great location and good food

We visited on Wednesday during Harbour Nights, we walked right up and were sat outside in a perfect spot for viewing the live street performer's. Service was quick and attentive, within minutes of being seated we were offered water and our drink orders were taken. Our food arrived shortly after our drinks and was hot and delicious, we opted for fish and chips and fish chowder, we enjoyed both.

Just right when you want a night at the pub!

Open since 1957, this casual pub just off Front Street, serves traditional British pub fare. On a vacation where food can be pricy, The Hog Penny will welcome you and provide good service, a great meal and an excellent cuppa to end the night! The Shepard’s Pie and Chicken Pot Pie were excellent! Highly recommend a visit!

Always excellent!

They have quite an arrangement for outside seating. They are on quite a steep hill so they have constructed a level platform, so they can have tables spaced for outside seating. It wasn't crowded when we went, so we sat inside - tables spaced indoors as well. Staff in masks and all the restaurants are taking contact tracing info. Lots of sanitizer everywhere, Food as always was excellent. They had a special with shrimp and linguine that had a fantastic sauce. They also have THE best onion rings on the island. Lots of good onion rings around, but their batter is the best!

Excellent Appetizers on a Sunday Afternoon

This is one of the few places that was open on Sunday. We went with a group of 6 people. We ordered a bunch of appetizers: Wild Sizzling Shrimp, Fried Calamari, Chicken Wings and a Caesar Salad. One of us ordered a Cheeseburger. Everything was cooked to perfection. Been going there for years. So happy to see that it's still a great place for food and fun. Thank you!

A good place for a restaurant week's meal in cozy surroundings.

The Hog Penny is what I consider a well-priced restaurant with good quality food. The service is quick and pleasant, and I have had no complaints. This visit was part of my restaurant weeks 2024 mission, and the Hog Penny has done well. I started with the fish chowder that was fine but not the dark, thin soup I was used to. The server put in good dose of the sherry peppers, and this may have altered the taste a bit. I followed with a steak that was served with potatoes and vegetables. The finale was a custard pie that tasted far better than it looked. All in all, no surprises here but good food, price and service. 8/10

Great British Pub

A friend who has frequented Bermuda many times over 20 years recommended this. They were diligent with Covid protocol, requiring us to sign-in on a contact tracking roster . We had fish and chips and an apple/greens/grilled shrimp salad which were excellent. Very British-pub atmosphere and lots of locals,which is always a good sign! Not a cheap eatery, but everything is expensive in Bermuda. Including on ale, lunch for two was $72 with tip.

Delightful place, full of history. Great pub food.

Ate here 3 times, 2 lunches and 1 evening meal. The whole place is 'historical' and interesting. The staff are excellent. Very varied large menu. Chef/chefs are skilled and must be a reliable team. The chef who cooked the ribeye steak for the roast meal knows how to cook a very nice piece of meat - excellent. Thanks Hog Penny. Will return.

Beautiful old pub and drinks, deficient food

Great for drinks and atmosphere of old pub style. Staff friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was not great. The Bermuda fish chowder was just okay but the chicken pot pie was awful! Dry and lumps of over cooked chicken wrapped in soggy pastry dough. Would not rush back.

Went for dinner with 11 people before Harbor Nights and as usual everything from the rum swizzles, fish chowder and entrees were perfectly prepared, great service. We try to come whenever we come to Bermuda. Never disappoints. Nice pub atmosphere.
