About
Charlie’s Bar & Restaurant was founded on September 18, 1941 by a Dutch couple, Charles and Marie Brouns. They chose their location in San Nicolas as it was close to the large Lago Refinery: this provided a steady stream of clientele in the form of seamen, contractors, and oil workers.Over the years, Charlie’s Bar became a destination returned to by countless friends from the past, accompanied by new patrons anxious to visit what has become an iconic island institution…”If you haven’t been to Charlie’s you don’t know Aruba!”Today, Charlie’s Bar is recognized as one of the Top Ten Bars in the Caribbean; and is a must see destination for first time visitors who will undoubtedly encounter and enjoy

Had the best meal in a week. Ordered the steak strip (medium rare) came with potato wedges and salad. Wish I new the rub or marinade used, too good! The staff were outstanding and offered a plethora of island information and things to do! A...must have meal, hours during COVID is 12 noon to 5pm Mon.-Sat.More

The service was as promised! Great local spot to visit. Incredible food, not you typical chain establishment. This place is a must on your list of places to go to while on Aruba!!!

Popped in here because the reviews were great and how this place is a must. Had lunch there - shrimp on a shell. Was ok. Very pricey!!! Staff was nice though but it wasn’t what we expected. Good to go for a beer or two...but not to eat. Wouldn’t rush back there but I’d you want to see a little place full of nostalgia then I would say go.More

Stopped in for lunch in the way to Rodgers Beach. Great fish dish for lunch (King fish) & it came with a salad and either fries or rice. My husband went with fries & I the rice. Great nostalgic place & we would return.

Yes .. you will be off the beaten path, in a locals downtown area, yes, there will be bad streets you shouldn't investigate (but you will anyway), and yes - the bar is 75 yrs old! Just check it out! We had the ribs and...they were totally awesome!More

If when you’re in Aruba & haven’t as yet been to Charlie’s Bar, you MUST go. Great atmosphere, great drinks, brews, great burgers & other food items. If U decide to go, bring a license plate from UR home state, They hang them all over...the walls. Just enjoy. 👍😄More

what a local gem of a place. unchanged for years and full of old treasures. good drinks and food with reasonable prices. the bartenders (especially Raoul) are hilarious. if you are a regular visitor to Aruba, you have to visit Charlie's Bar. suggestion: go during...daylight hours because it is not in one of the best neighborhoods of St. Nicholas.More

Charlie’s Bar has been in San Nicholas forever or so it seems. The food is ok and prices too. The “charm” of Charlie’s is the stuff crammed on every inch of walls etc. they have unique items pinned, nailed, taped everywhere possible. Charlie’s neighborhood is...not very safe after dark but fine during the day. If you drive there be sure to park at the launder at one block away.More

Had to try according to the reviews. Really cool interior with old license plates and trinkets from everywhere. Nice bar but could use a few more seats. Had draft beer! The shrimp was good, the service great. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Finally, a non-gentrified restaurant in Aruba! And, it's away from the touritsy, cruise ship parts of the island. Raul i quite a character which we appreciated. The place is chockful of "stuff" and has been since 1941:

Hi Bridgett, we asked about Uber and we were told that they did not have Uber. There are many taxi drivers and they were very friendly and helpful.
