We stumbled across this quaint little country pub after a wet and windy midweek walk through the woods near Alfreds tower. Only popped in for a beer and a light lunch, but the log fire, landlord and country pub atmosphere were all very welcoming. The food and ale were excellent too. Its a little off the beaten track, but its... More

We arrived early on a Saturday evening and managed to get a table (booking advised however). We started off with bread, olives and olive oil and a sticky balsamico, then I went for a trio of pork. My friends had field mushroom tart, pork sausages and smoked haddock respectively. All was very good quality: portions were adequate to generous. The... More

We used to frequent this pub restaurant in previous decades and thought we'd give it a try after my Mum had visited with her girlfriends. The bar area hasn't changed a bit, still exudes all the charm of the best of British country pubs with a welcoming fire and friendly staff. The menu is chalked up behind the bar with... More

We have been here a few times over the last year, and the food is always delicious. I winter it is cosy, with a lovely log fire. The staff are warm and welcoming. Recommended.

Another amazing meal. The food is delicious and well presented. The hosts Martin and Ann are a delight they make you feel so very welcome. Nice atmosphere in the bar area with the log fire and feels very cosy.

Our second visit to enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch with friends. What is so welcome and impressive is the way they organise taking your order and then, without a long delay, serve a delicious meal. The Sunday roast - beef or game in season and other choices cannot be improved upon. The best puds soon run out. Traditional pub atmosphere... More

A pub really well worth a visit just off the beaten track but don't expect it to be easy to get a table, booking is essential. The landlord and lady are very friendly and the food is always top notch, have had Sunday lunch there many times and it is always very good. Plenty of it and very good vegetables.... More

We have had lunch here several times recently and the food has been so good we just keep coming back. It also combines very well with a good dog walk around the estate at Stourhead, anyway that's our excuse. The last couple of visits here I have eaten game, once pheasant breasts and another time a game cobbler, both delicious.... More
