We came across this on the way to Kew Gardens, whilst looking for a Sunday roast spot. The food itself was really nice, all the trimmings with lots of flavour and the decor inside is really pleasant. Unfortunately, although the restaurant part was quite quiet, it still took 15 mins for us to be acknowledged and our drinks order taken and then a similar story when it came to paying the bill. It's just a shame because the meal was very nice, but the lack of service and warmth from the staff left a bad taste.

Came in yesterday for a Sunday roast with my partner and had the most wonderful experience, food was amazing but the service made it much better. Special thanks to Amelia who was absolutely lovely and attentive, food and drinks came very quickly and tasted great! The location is also very good and it’s a beautiful building! Don’t have a bad word to say, we will definitely be back!

Good location, indifferent service, average food
Made a reservation for a small group with a special request for festive lunches. While the automated reservation process seemed to have been ok, it is only AUTOMATED. There was no personalised response, no advance warning that the request could not be met. Only when we arrived were we told we would have no festive lunch and would need to order from a menu with very limited options for our dietary needs. Food was ok, nice enough, tbh but really just average and very small portions. The place was very busy, staff were polite but the welcome felt lukewarm. We were requested to leave as soon as the 1.5 hour time allocation for the table came to an end. Fair enough, the place is bustling, but from our experience this had impact on service and quality unfortunately. Your custom doesn't matter to them. Despite all this, we like the place, it has atmosphere!

Tap on the Line Kew
Good afternoon Dor,
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I understand that you passed a note through our booking platform indicating this was a christmas lunch, however in future please book a table under 'christmas dining' opposed to 'indoor dining' as this will lead you through the correct system and allow us to provide you with the desired menu. As you could see on Sunday, we had a full pub from the moment we opened our doors and as a result we didn't have as much time with each table as we would have usually liked. It's disheartening to hear a bad review about our food in this was, especially as we offered additional menu items that are not usually on our Sunday menu to cater to your group. I hope we can satisfy you needs better next time.
I hope we see you again next year and with some luck we can provide with the desired menu.
Kind regards,
Team Tap

Sunday roast was not good. The roast pork was dry and tough. The food arrived lukewarm and the side of cauliflower was cold. Not a good roast. The pub itself is nice, I will come back for drinks, not food next time.

We had spent a very hot day at Kew gardens so I had booked a table at the Tap on the Line for a meal. We were four.
The table was right next to the tube line (with a window between the table and the train platform) and nicely laid, and well presented.
Our server was friendly and helpful.
Two of us chose the chicken with spinach, gnocchi and mushrooms. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the ingredients married well together.
One had the Thai curry, which was extremely tasty. My partner chose the avocado, quinoa and feta salad. There was nothing much by way of feta to be found, so that wasn't good. Not much avocado in thee either.
Desserts for two of us was the pineapple with the coconut sorbet. It came without cutlery which was quickly rectified, but a spoon and fork would have been better than a knife and fork.
The other two chose the cheeseboard, and such a dissapointment that they sent it back. The three supposed cheeses were two that didn't amount to 2 ounces of cheese, and one cheese was missing. The biscuits were the cheap biscuits for cheese one sees in all supermarkets, and for some reason a slice of buttered toast was thrown on top. This cheeseboard was over ÂŁ11 a plate. Outrageous!
The manager apologised and offered a round of drinks on the house by way of compensation, and two drinks were accepted.
Overall, lovely ambience, busy, comfortable, great service. Perhaps a bit more attention to the menu required?

When I pay £18 for a burger and chips I expect it to be considerably more spectacular than what I got served at this pub. An £8 meal from Burger King would have been more substantial. As for a £17 trout salad, my fiancée concluded it was a lot of vinegar, some salad, and about 50p's worth of actual trout. Beer is very expensive too.
I suspect the market for this pub is foreign tourists who have just come back from Kew Gardens and probably don't know any better. Avoid.

Excellent staff - courteous, efficient, friendly.
Food is expensive for what you get: vegetarian dishes suggest an amateur chef.
I had a roast squash dish and expected something worthy of its ÂŁ14. The sharing dish suggested it would be sufficient to share.
The bread that accompanied the soup lacked any kind of culinary imagination or talent. The pear crumble was tasty. My husband enjoyed the beef.

Good Morning Helen, Our chefs are very skilled and have worked here for around 8 years, I'm sorry you believe they're amateur but I can assure you they're not. We have replaced the Roast Squash for a Plant Based Burger from a community cooking charity called Made in Hackney which is much more value for money. The bread that accompanies the soup is not made in house & food supplies are seemingly limited at the moment. We are glad you enjoyed the other dishes & hope this does not put you off visiting us again. Kind Regards, Kayley

The Tap On The Line doesn't disappoint. The food is always a class apart compared to most pubs (Fuller's seem to be very strong on food these days), and the beer is always in great condition. The service was excellent (so much better than other, disappointing local pubs I could mention, like The Coach and Horses - give it a miss). The Tap is surely the best pub in Kew - lively, has the best food and the beer choice and quality is always excellent. Sadly not true of some of the other nearby pubs. If you're visiting Kew, The Tap should definitely be top of your pub list.

Popped in after a long journey. This pub is remarkable as it part of an original tube station (I won't google - I think I'm right) and has a unique veiw into the station from it's terrace.
First bad sign was that the bar and card machine were sticky.
Like, noticeably.
Sat down after ordering as the food was served and realised the edge of the table I was on was also sticky.
It was if the middle had been cleaned but missed the edges.
On the plus side, the food was good - a bit expensive perhaps - but a good brunch in a unique pub is tarnished by stickiness.
Must scrub harder!

We were in need of cold refreshment following our six-hour walk around Kew Gardens.
There was only Peroni available as bottled beer inside the Gardens so my husband needed something better...and British!
We made a beeline for The Tap on the Line being the first one in a direct line between Victoria Gate and the train station.
It was busy out in the Courtyard being a nice day so we sat inside and enjoyed drinks while giving our aching feet a rest!
Loved the little historic elements around the interior which was originally part of the station building and belonged to the L&SWR (London and Southwestern Railway) which was absorbed into the Southern Railway in 1923.
Lovely old tiles and memorabilia are a feast for the eyes including the large old clock about the bar. A great place to pop into just to get a feel for the ambience.
I loved the decorative wrought iron works on the station platform and on the courtyard side. Gorgeous designs and I hope this is preserved forever!

After a long day at Kew we wanted some good pub fare before the journey home. The establishment didn’t disappoint. Arrived without a booking on a warm Saturday evening. Despite the pub being relatively busy they fitted us in.
We both opted for burgers which were good. Accompanying triple cooked chips were fantastic.
Due to its location you’re also able to see when your train is due without leaving the surroundings of the pub.
Friendly staff with appropriate time between food courses.
Well worth checking it out if you’re looking for similar things to us.

I wanted to write this review as i was blown away by the service and commitment of the satff looking after us. I brought clients here as time was short and it was the most convenient place ready for them to head to heathrow.
The roast was exceptional and a plentiful supply and nothing was too much bother for our server whos name i believe was George or Greg… My clients were incredibly impressed by the pub grub and service.
Thanks

As I’m coeliac I have to do a bit of research before I eat out, thought I’d picked well, lots of dietary information on the online menu. Had a few options in mind, the only carb side was triple cooked chips which was a treat for me. We were promptly seated by a very friendly lady who was quick to give us menus and take our drink order. I told her I was coeliac (as I had done when I booked) and had looked at all the allergens online, she told me she needed to add that the Chips were cooked in a fryer that cooks gluten containing food so would be unsuitable for me. I decided on the steak, medium, She offered a green salad instead on top of the small salad it already came with, by this time I just needed something to eat, the pleasure was gone. The food arrived very quickly, steak well done! Didn’t complain as the night was already spoiled. Didn’t bother with dessert as the only thing available to me was a mini chocolate brownie. Please use your imagination, coeliacs are so fed up of chocolate brownies as we are always given them for dessert. The waitress was very understanding of my issues and said she would email her bosses to explain the problems. £80 for 2 steaks, 1 with chips, totally wasted for me

The vegetarian/ vegan options were terrible, houmos was tasty but very small for ÂŁ6.50. Main option of Green Goddess salad made me laugh out loud at how ridiculous it was, even checked with waiter - ÂŁ12 for lettuce and tomatoes, not even avocado as this is just dressing... Caesar salad at ÂŁ8.50 is better value if you hold the bacon... The Miso glazed tofu was the only other option to get some protein, and meal was SO salty. I am a big fan of salt, but this was unenjoyable salty. Couldn't send it back to kitchen as there was no other meal options. The waiter was very kind and attentive, atmosphere was good, but food choices were prehistoric. Fullers need to join 2021 and give vegans some serious protein options. Try legumes, they are cheap, easy to cook and delicious... Vegans can't live off lettuce, and don't need to anymore! Look at Mildred's menu!

Sunday lunch at this lovely venue was delicious. We had the veg option, but roar with cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage, roast potatoes and more—a huge amount of food to refresh us from walking miles through Kew Gardens. With drinks, the bill for three (two adult and one “child” portion) was less than 60 pds.
