We visited for my girlfriends birthday with 4 others, Parking is a bit short but there is plenty of street to park on opposite the pub. Inside is has a warm glow and feel to it. We were sat just in the back but the room was full and buzzing with talk. We ordered drinks(good ales on tap). Then the... More

Had a lovely meal here last night. Good service and plenty of choice on the menu including a specials board. I had the steak pie which is one of the best I've ever had with thin shortcrust pasty and plenty of tender steak with carrots and onions in a very tasty gravy. Nice thick chunky chips. My husband had the... More

We were driving away from Harrogate and chances upon the sign for this pub. We were not disappointed. Great beers, lovely wine, friendly welcome, professional service, reasonable prices (compared to Harrogate) and stunning light lunches. The homemade leek and potato soup and rabbit gniocci deserve a special mention as does the home made bread. Well everything actually! For a light... More

Visited this pub at the weekend and high expectations were dashed by mediocre expensive food, tired decor and smelly toilets! I opted for Salt and Pepper Squid which was a pretty generic starter and no frills. The main course was the Weeping Tiger which @ £21.95 you would expect to have some pizzazz. The sizzling dish was brought to the... More

Although some of the Food was off the menu the meals that we had chosen were excellent. Good quality and served at an easy pace. The service was 1st Class too in lovely surroundings. Would definitely recommend a meal at this establishment.

Having enjoyed our visit last year we booked for lunch this year. Very enjoyable ambiance, service and very good food with a good choice of dishes. The smoked haddock starter is highly recommended and the Chocolate pot for dessert. The Calves Liver was most enjoyable followed by bread and butter pudding. Sheila and family.

After looking for a new pub style restaurant we thought when we arrived for Sunday lunch we had struck lucky. Good food guide in the entrance window nice cosy pub style surroundings. Unfortunately those were the good points. I assume the Good food badge ran out before we arrived or ownership has changed. The service was lead by young inexperienced... More

We had a fabulous meal here recently for our anniversary. The quality of our food was excellent, although i found my black pudding starter not to my taste. My main mean was superb and my husband loved all of his meal. The portions are large and quality ingredients clearly used. The atmosphere is lovely, cosy and friendly. A lovely place... More

Yet another visit to The Malt Shovel. I moved away but on a visit back to Yorkshire I popped in again as the food has alway been excellent. Matt, the proprietor is genuinely a friendly, chatty host. The staff have the same qualities. You must give it a try if you are close to Ripon/Ripley. Booking is advised

An 'Olde Worlde' pub type restaurant, complete with horse brasses, beams, nooks and crannies, situated in the lovely little village of Brearton. We had a really delicious lunch and were attentively looked after by Will, who was a credit to the establishment and kept everyone (on a busy Tuesday lunchtime) well fed and watered. We didn't see the chef but... More
