Lovely little restaurant

We ate here during our trip to this region of France as the hotel restaurant was closed on Sunday evening. It was a very good choice. Simple tasty food at a very good price. The service was excellent especially the young man who helped me choose a wine to my taste, not knowing the wines of that region. He made an excellent choice which I really enjoyed. The young lady serving was also very amiable and looked after us well.

Fantastic food in Givry! A must!

We wanted a lovely lunch and we had one! The fish and chips were wonderful and the chef went out if his way to make our vegetarian friend a lovely lunch. The Givry wine was a delicious addition!

Whilst staying at Le Moulin Madame, we had dinner at La Cadole: the friendly reception (in flawless English), great local wine and the good food made it a good experience. Small issue is that the desserts where pre-made: I always dislike that

Nice little restaurant, good stop on way back from skiïng.

Coming back from skiïng we stopped in Givry at Moulin Madame. And they recommended us La Cadole for dinner. Good advise: warm welcome, nice little restaurant in the center of Givry. Good, and not too large, choice of food and wines, good advise what to eat and drink. Perfect end of holidays.

GOOD CLASSIC BURGUNDIAN FARE

My wife and I dined at La Cadole our first night of a week in Burgundy for French Language Immersion class. Givry is a small but picturesque town and La Cadole is right in the center. A nicely appointed dining room with stone walls greets visitors and the food is classic Burgundian. Since it was our first night, I had escargots followed by Boeuf Burgogne - both excellently prepared. Glasses of local Givry Pinot Noir were very good as well. You can't go wrong with the solid fare at La Cadole.

Among the rare restaurants open Sunday evening

We did expect better food but they are welcoming and have a good service. Limited choice in the menu plus specials of the day. Food very much inspired by local production: oeufs meurettes, pain perdu à l'Epoisses, cochon de lait...nice seating outside facing a historic grains silo.

Bad business ethics? Stupidity? A joke? And mediocre food!

I have written over 25 TripAdvisor reviews. All except for one have been very positive. Unfortunately, this one is very negative and with very good reason. I made a reservation, showed up on time and so far, very good. I ordered the 4 course "menu" for 31 Euro which also included a cheese plate. I decided that I didn't want the cheese plate, so i requested that they don't bring me the cheese. The first course was quite good. The plat (main course) was quite tasteless. The dessert was disappointing also. The glass of wine (5 Euro) was good. When I went to pay, they presented me with a bill for 56 Euro instead of 36 Euro. I asked why and they told me that it was because i did not want the cheese. I could not believe what they were saying. So asked them "if i took the cheese, would the price be 36 Euros?" They said yes. I have to point out that I did not ask for something else instead of the cheese. I looked around to see if there were hidden cameras thinking that this must a joke for a TV show or something. But no, they were serious. Unbelievable!!! Firstly, this is ridiculous that I took less food and was charged more. Secondly, even if they have this totally stupid policy, they should have said something when I told them that I don't want the cheese plate. To make things worse, I heard the waitress tell her colleague under her breath that this is a "typical foreigner". While I don't speak French perfectly, I can still understand quite a bit. Only after I had a 5 minute discussion with them and told them that the internet is going to love this stupidity on their part, did the waitress say that she would adjust the bill to make it right. Then she said that it is difficult to adjust because of their complicated computer system. I have spent over 18 months in France over the last 4 years and I have had many excellent experiences here. This was NOT one of them! I also know French food very well (as I eat at restaurants 2-4 times per week) and the cuisine at this restaurant is simply disappointing. The one positive thing about this is now I have an absolutely true, but hard to believe experience to share with my friends. So far, everyone I have told this story to has been amused, but also disgusted by the absurd behaviour of the staff at this restaurant.

Tourists in need!!

Delicious meal here in Givry,, recommend the poached eggs in red wine sauce even tho it may sound odd !service very good indeed ...it has recently changed hands.....but standards have not dropped.we had a very tasty meal ...large portions ....asked for a taxi as we had been dropped off and none available!! The lady then very kindly volunteered to drive us back to moroges...how wonderful is that?? Highly recommended

Monday lunch with young family

A return weekday family lunch visit to a splendid restaurant which has consistently good food and service. Very good set menus to cover all pockets, really good local a la carte menu, and nice wine menu showcasing Cotes Challonaise producers at decent prices. Steak tartare highly recommended.

after a week of average food in a ski resort to find ourselves in this gem on the way home was magical. Very good local produce served without fuss. Reasonably priced, about 50 euros for two before drink for a three course menu. The staff enjoy their job and are very enthusiastic about their cuisine.

Small but charming with good food and service

This restaurant was closed for many months but re-opened mid 2016. The decor (including the piano) has been retained, as has the style of the menu. After all, why change a winning formula? Also, the service continues to be efficient and friendly under the new owners. This place is popular with the locals - so book to be sure of your place or arrive early.

Delicious Lunch in a Charming Environment

We live near this area and are always seeking good restaurants. We certainly discovered one here which met our every requirement: excellent service, wonderful food and wine served in very pretty dining room. The menu offered many choices of a la carte selection, plus several menus which featured different choices of seasonal entrees. It was also possible to chose one of the featured menu selections as an a la carte choice. We shared an appetizer of shrimp in a delicious gazpacho-like sauce, followed by pork filet mignon with morel mushrooms in a tasty sauce for my husband and a very fresh and succulent plaice fish cooked in papillote, The wine selection is very good, and after tasting a local Montagny white wine we tracked the winery down and bought more! This is the best dining experience we have shared in this area and we will return for a gourmet experience at a very good price!
