Brilliant service, polite and very friendly ... a lovely place to either just stop off for a coffee or to sit down and enjoy a meal overlooking the river and daydream the day away.

We had a lovely tea break here after spending a couple of hours walking along the Ullswater Way. The scones were the nicest we have tasted in a long time and our drinks were a great quality. We sat in the gardens with lovely views over the river.

During our stay we visited here and its great to find somewhere that good baking is still done well. Our coffees/teas, as well as the traybakes, scones etc, were excellent value. Service was good, young lassie with glasses very attentive. all sorts on the menus. a good choice for a rest after some walking.

This was a short and sweet visit for tea and scones. I tried to cut my scone in half and it literally turned to a pile of dust - totally inedible. Was asked if all ok and I said yes, mainly because I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle for a scone. Probably wouldn't return because when this sort... More

Hi Beth, thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. I am very sorry to hear about your experience. I have looked into it and found that we were testing out a new type of flour on the day you visited and it is obviously not suitable for our scones - which are usually excellent and almost... More

Went for lunch with my son today. The staff were welcoming and polite and our dod was allowed in.The food was wonderful - GF selection very good, even exceptional. If you're thinking of lunch or afternoon tea, I'd forget the big hotels on Ullswater - Granny Dowbekins is by far the best.We will certainly be back.

My girlfriend and I stopped here for lunch and were very impressed. We had the afternoon tea and it was excellent. Dare I say better than Betty's in York. The cafe was smart and very well presented and the staff were friendly and helpful. I can't recommend this place enough.
