This place was recommended by the gal at our motel. They had just opened and were still heating the grill. We each had a cheeseburger ($8) and an order of fries ($2). They were good, but I wish they had tartar sauce for the fries. I had no complaints with the quality of the food. The owner said that he... More

The Brown Bear is a neato spot to grab a burger 'n beer on the way back to Anchorage from Seward or the Kenai. .A rustic spot, it smacks of local color in décor, patrons and serving personnel. The menu is a bit limited but what they have is several cuts above standard chain fare. Their burgers, fries and onion... More

Very nice little stop for a beer. Fun place. We had a couple beers here, didn't try the food. People were friendly.

Old local bar, quite unique and very 'rustic' to say the least... bizarrely enough they serve one of the best burgers we have EVER had! Plus the service is great. So don't be put off that it's not the flashiest looking joint - it's a great place and definitely worth a stop in!

Sometimes you want to eat a greasy burger in a dive bar. Here's a good place to do it. There's a fun jukebox, pool, darts, scratch bloody marys, and friendly bartenders.

From the road, the Brown Bear looks like nothing more than a dive bar. Opening the door to enter will not dispel this conviction. In fact it is a kind of local haunt for bikers and working stiffs. And we almost turned around and hit the road again, being a family of all sorts. But Chris, the bartender opened up... More

We had tried to go to a place called the Bird House just down the road, but apparently it had burned down many years ago. The Brown Bear Saloon was a great substitute. the service was great, ambiance was what you expect in the middle of nowhere Alaska, the food was great and the service water better. A great rest...
