We were invited here to meet friends for dinner and a game of darts (apparently dart night is every Tuesday). What a great night we had from start to finish, we arrived and met the host/barman who owns the place Eric the Welshman, who's really interesting to talk to and share stories with. Then we had dinner where I chose... More

The restaurant was not crowded when we sat down to eat. Our waitress came over to us right away and took our drink order. We ordered bottled water and coffee. The water came out shortly but the coffee didn't arrive until after our food came. We waited well over an hour for our food. We are pretty patient people but... More

We came here because it was advertised as "vegetarians catered for" and six of the eight of us are vegetarians. To find only one entree and one main on the menu that were vegetarian was disappointing. The main was a strange mixture of vegetarian food with omelette, mash potato, salad, along with the entree food of samosa, spring roll etc... More

Tumunu has a laid back, easy going vibe about it. The waiting staff were absolutely delightful and often checked up to see if we wanted anything else. Meals are not the cheapest but not overpriced. The portions are large and our steak was beautifully cooked. I like the personal touches and memorabilia that reflect the hosts and past history of... More

By recommendation we made a booking at this restaurant and ordered the seafood platter. $80 for two. We were not disappointed. Plenty to eat. Delicious.

Average food in nice surroundings if you can ignore the crude pictures all over the ceiling. The garden area is lovely. The bar decor is tacky and crude though

Kia orana Thank you for your review. We do read them all and advise our staff. the Tumunu Garden restaurant is 37 years old. yes it is old and eclectic. Most everything that is one the ceilings, walls etc has been donated by guests. Few people tend to emphasize the fact that there are some semi nude photos - certainly... More

We ate here on our final night on the island. The food was really good, the place looked really neat with all of the island photos from the past all over. The servers were very good and nice. We just had a great family time here. Some in my group got the seafood platter for 2, worried that is was... More

As with most of the restaurants on the island focus is on food and service and not furnishing and table cloths. No sea view or sunset, non intrusive background music, fairy lights throughout, friendly staff providing an enjoyable experience. Starters £7.50 NZ$ 15, not small, main courses £15.50 NZ$ 31 for scallops and prawns, one of us had seared and... More

Hello and thank you for taking the time to submit this very informative review. No we do not have a sea view so sunsets are out. The restaurant is very eclectic and this has been mostly due to contributions from travelers over 37 years. We do promote ourselves as having ample portions and great service and I hope this is... Description
A great quirky casual dining experience. Opened since 1979 it still has the same owners and the same name. It is a mix of eclectic and local island decor. The walls feature an array of photos of events, people and things. The ceilings are a collage of various types of posters etc. The Tumunu Garden Restaurant also features the "largest little notebook" on the island. Come visit us! A fun place for children too with a garden and "dancing laser fire flys"
