Went here for birthday celebrations & was so disappointed in the food. Main course arrived cold then to be returned reheated & swimming in oil the most tasteless risotto I have ever had. Burgers were over cooked to the point of being cremated. We did receive some discount but was disappointed as this used to be a big favourite eating... More

The front of the building is deceptive - the restaurant itself is very open and modern in a traditional way. The choice of meals was really good and definitely worth a visit.

Stayed overnight in the room at the top, fabulous room although a bit hot. Ate in the upstairs dining room and whilst all the food was excellent (belly pork, steaks, burger) their was a little issue with the burger which came without the cheese requested. Breakfast the next morning was a delight and the staff were very attentive and friendly.

We were staying in Elie last weekend we walked round to the pub at 4.30 and booked a table for 5pm, in the upstairs restaurant. I got the duck spring rolls to start they were a bit too salty but the sauce on the side was amazing. Our mains were excellent too. Our waitress was so lovely a young girl... More

Ate twice here this weekend, lovely food and delightful service. All dishes got plaudits from my group: fish and chips; belly pork; burger; duck confit, and pheasant. Puddings were good too! Only criticism - please lose the slates and wooden boards. Plates are the business!

Visited here during recent business trip to Fife. Good friendly atmosphere, pleasant staff, relaxing decor and excellent food. Pity it's not nearer home! Recommended.

Never ceases to amaze me that, when you spend a million pound on a fantastic refurbishment, you then employ inexperienced staff on minimum wage. Yes great location, yes food is above OK, but service could be eclipsed in McDonalds. Visited in mid November and place was freezing. Mentioned this to the staff, pointing out that everyone in the bar was... More

We hadn't been for years, popped in for lunch, loved the refurb, quirky gents toilets were fab, staff very welcoming, dog was allowed, sat by the fire drinking great Deuchars IPA all accompanied by some good fish and chips. If it wasn't 500 miles from my house, it would be my local.

Description
The Ship Inn at Elie in Fife has long been one of Scotland's most iconic pubs, famous for its great views, stunning location, and even as the only pub in the world to have a cricket team with a pitch on the beach. The owners, Graham and Rachel Bucknall, who also run the Bridge Inn at Ratho (named as AA Pub of the Year in September 2014) purchased the Ship Inn, a pub they both knew very well, in late 2014. After a major 6-month renovation programme, they re-opened a transformed Ship Inn in the summer of 2015. 6 beautiful bedrooms were opened in March 2016. The inn is part of a row of old cottages by the harbour. At its heart is the bar where the comfy chairs and sofas beside the open fires and wood-burning stoves make a welcome sight, especially when it's windy and rainy outside. You are more than welcome just to call in for a coffee, but it's worth stopping longer for a pint, a whisky or a meal in the upstairs restaurant with its views of the bay. The same menu is offered throughout the inn - and if you have your dog with you, he or she is very welcome to join you downstairs - water, treats and even dog beds are provided. The food is of the hearty pub variety, but seafood, locally caught, is high on the menu. Graham and Rachel have also created delightful double and twin bedrooms, all with views of Elie Bay and the Firth of Forth. The Ship Inn is unique in the fact that it has the only cricket team in the UK that plays matches on the beach. From May to September, depending on the tide and after the sand has been rolled flat, the Ship's team hosts matches for other Scottish teams and touring teams from all over the world.
