Had a birthday meal at El Tovar. Views were beautiful. Food and service was very good. They have gone to paper and plastic service due to water shortages; the paper plates were too small for the meal and should be upgraded.

I don't know what's happening with the service in this room: all I can say is the process is broken and the numerous youngsters supposed to bring food and drinks to the patrons appear to be a disoeganised, clueless bunch - and I honestly believe...it's not their fault, they just haven't been trained and organized properly. "Traditional" Navajo taco ( did Nvajos do tacos, rally?!?) was actually good, pasta a la puntanesca also good, but the amount in the (plastic due to water restrictions...) was a third of the expected serving...More

Researching for months the best place to eat, to make a special evening, reservation made months in advance, and they even seated us a few minutes early, great. First view, a plastic set of cutlery wrapped in more plastic. The view was not special at...all, even though it was technically closest to the window. A fence and construction tape were more visible. The waitress came over and said they didn’t have what we wanted, and ran away when we didn’t make a fast enough decision. The bread guy came over with one plate with three rolls, and we didn’t have bread plates of our own. My dad sat with his roll on the table and a butter filled plastic knife. All this, plus the prices, turned us off and we left without ordering anything. Sad.More

After hiking for several days and eating mediocre food at best, we were excited for a nice meal. Honestly, the food and service was just okay. I should start by saying that we received a text message prior to our reservation that stated due to...water conservation the restaurant was switching to paper plates and plastic forks. I could understand this, but quite honestly eating on paper plates did take away from the experience. That said, that food was just okay. Nothing wowed us. It's really the only comparable restaurant in the Grand Canyon area, but if you're looking for fine dining this isn't it. The wait staff was friendly but definitely amateurish. Again - fine dining it is definitely not.More

We visited here for lunch . We did not have a reservation but the dining room was empty and there was plenty of waitstaff . The hostess was visibly annoyed that we requested a table for 5 and was sure that we knew it ....This restaurant was stately and “the place” I am sure back in the day , BUT , you can tell they are desperately hanging on post Covid .. our servers were lovely - sorry I just remembered Dani who was fabulous and accommodating . A reminder to your front of the house staff that a genuine welcome And a smile go along way ..More

I had read mixed reviews on the seating/service/food at El Tovar, and we were pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful experience we had! We were there for lunch and seated right in front of a large window (during a rare rain/hail storm, which was fun...to watch). Our server was fantastic (I wish I could remember his name, Ernesto?). The food was amazing – I had the Pasta Puttanesca and my husband had a chicken club. We also had the Prickly Pear Margarita and a glass of wine. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I’m glad we had gotten reservations prior to arrival.More

Portobello mushroom over sauced and over cooked. Vegetables overcooked. Salmon tostada was ‘eh’. Great service and ambience. Service quite good. Value not so good. And desserts non existent. Order something else.

Just eat in the bar or get fast food, this places comes off as top drawer but the food just isn’t there. We spent over $200 for our dinner with two kids and the kids meals were the highlight. How do you mess up crème...brûlée to the point of not being edible. A western sizzling would have been way better.More

The first thing our server informed us was that they were short staffed and so were serving a limited menu . Food was mediocre at best and service rushed and uncomfortable. Toilets are down a dingy, grubby staircase. This was honestly the worst experience of...our month long road trip so far. This place is living off its reputation and makes absolutely no effort at customer satisfaction.More

The El Tovar dining room has been on my Grand Canyon bucket list for years. We finally got to eat a breakfast and a lunch there this trip, and both were great. The breakfast was agreed by all four family members to have been the...best we have ever had! Be sure to try the Pancake Trio - one each of buttermilk, buckwheat, and native blue cornmeal, with prickly pear syrup! Also fabulous was the Smoked Ham, Mushroom, and Gruyere Omelet, as well as the Harvey House Breakfast.More

There is conflicting information on their web site. Under the FAQ they clearly state "Dinner reservations can be made six months in advance by guests with El Tovar overnight room reservations". But then under the dinner reservations they say you can make reservations only 30...days in advance. I called and also emailed the restaurant with my hotel confirmation info, but they told me they only reserve 30 days in advance. Although the restaurant states their dress code "is for a fine dining experience", unfortunately about 60% were in t-shirts and shorts for dinner. The food was ok, but nothing memorable especially for the price. The view was nice but the window overlooks a porch with people sitting watching the sunset. Overall it was just average. I wouldn't go back.More

We are traveling in Western US for 6 weeks and had planned for El Tovar Restaurant to be one of the culinary highlights, thus, spending our wedding anniversary there. And as beautiful as Grand Canyon is as terrible was El Tovar. I normally do not...make reviews, however, I wish to save others from the “experience”. Do not go there! The food is downright terrible. The burgers, we had at Grand Canyon Caverns were way better as were the Mexican dinner we had in Tusayan yesterday evening. If I should try to summon up, it was a blend of a cafeteria environment - people in shorts and tops for dinner - and food that was bland and either not cooked (the rice) or overcooked (the halibut) or just bad quality (the ribeye) only decent thing was the white wine from Duckhorn and the kind waitress, Amber, who didn’t deserve working in a place like that. Horrible 2 course meal (worst I have ever had in the US) for 4 persons, including a bottle of white wine, USD 350. The Mexican dinner in Tusayan yesterday was in comparison USD 175 (and then we had very nice bagged food for lunch).More

Lunch was varied and appealing, though the sauce with shrimp cocktail was VERY spicy! Dinner was good--everyone loved their food, though the green beans were floating in olive oil and the salmon was so-so (probably not the best choice). Service was terrific at lunch and...dinner.More

We had two great breakfasts at the ET Lodge Dining Room, with outstanding food (Bananas Foster French Toast and omelets), with equally great service from Nick and Ernesto. However, our dinner was mediocre all around, both the food (roast duck) and service. A "5" for...the breakfast, 2-3 for the dinner.More

French onion soup, classic wedge salad, grilled halibut, cherry Creme Brulee and a canyon view. When you make reservations request window seating if available. If you don't have reservations expect at minimum a 1 -2 hour wait.
