Eight friends were visiting the nearby Pendon Museum and needed a lunch break. Liam and his mother were super helpful. A private room a good selection of beers (including Butcombe) and a comprehensive pub lunch menu. Those who had the sausages and mash were still...talking about them as we drove home to Somerset! The Fishpie was full of fish including smoked haddock, with plenty of cheese and a giant prawn for topping. The burger was pronounced excellent too. The Abingdon brewery Loose Cannon was remarked upon too. Large Sauvignon Blanc went down well too. We did not give more than a couple of hours notice for our visit but received a warm welcome. Food and drink were exceptional. A great pub.More

Stopped here after a walk and the food is absolutely delicious. We had three main meals and they were all perfect. The chips are especially good. Beautifully presented and tastes as good as it looks. Dog friendly too and lovely atmosphere. We live a fair...distance away but will definitely making a trip to come back and try all the other things on the menu.More

Although we had booked, we were half an hour late arriving - no problem. Liam welcomed us . The food was superb, scampi, fish pies - even the cheese sandwich - were all well above average. This pub certainly lives up to the reviews. Be...careful with the SATNAV though, best to head just for Long Wittenham as the postcode given is possibly incorrect.More

Quite honestly the best pub food we have had !!! Excellent menu, our pheasant hand crimped pasty with bubble and squeak was amazing. The staff are very friendly and attentive…. We will be returning again very soon. Also the grounds are absolutely stunning. Highly recommended.

My friend and I visited for the first time a couple of weeks ago while on a walk around the area. It was lucky we'd booked as they were full! The roast was delicious, very home made but in a good way! The puddings were...so good too. From the moment we stepped through the doors to when we were leaving we experienced quick and friendly service. Would highly recommend lunch here and hope to visit again.More

12 of us celebrated a friends birthday with a scrumptious roast dinner today - 15th May. The meat was perfectly cooked and the veg and roast potatoes were excellent. The staff were very friendly and attentive - will certainly be going back again. Thank you!

The beer was good but the food seems to have taken a bit of a nose-dive. I would rate the food as no better than your average pub. It didn't help that there was a group of rowdy men shouting and swearing in the pub...while we were there. I don't think I would take my family there again.More

We decided to pop in spontaneously on a wet Saturday lunchtime having not been for 2/3 years. We had a nice welcome and was seated next to a lovely open fire. The staff were very welcoming and quick to take our orders. My son had...chosen the beef burger which he thoroughly enjoyed and my pesto, mozzarella and tomato focaccia was delicious. My husband enjoyed his sausage and mustard sandwich and our daughter was easily pleased with her bowl of chips ☺️ We then went on to have pudding, brownie, Eton mess and chocolate ice cream all slipped down a treat 👍🏼 We will be back again very soon, thanks.More

Having driven up from the south coast we had booked a local Airbnb. The plough was almost directly opposite and seemed the obvious place to eat. It had a lovely friendly atmosphere that was clearly generated by the very friendly landlord and landlady. Lovely wood...burner. Well kept beer and the food was exceptional especially the fish pie. It was hard to leave such a lovely place and if we ever go that way again we will be popping in. Thank you for a lovely evening.More

This pub was half way from mine and our daughter's house so it seemed a good choice. However after reading the reviews started to have doubts before we arrived. Not having any beef for sunday lunch should be a no no for any pub offering...Sunday lunch. However ordering three pork and one lamb we all enjoyed very much our offering. MY wife would have liked a few more roasted potatoes but there was more than enouth for the test of us and we will definately go back even if the beef is off. Nice real options and very friendly stafMore
