What a gem! Entered this stunning country pub after a walk around nearby Buttermere. The atmosphere was just perfect. Large log fires greeted customers looking for food, drink and conversation. It was mid afternoon and busy with a buzz of contented customers. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. An amply stocked bar displayed a dazzling array of Cumbrian Legendary... More

Went for dinner after a walk round Buttermere and Loweswater. The bar is well stocked with local beers. In fact it says on the menu that they have their very own brewery. We had the fish and chips and a vegetarian aubergine dish, both of which tasted great. They also came with two side dishes, a lovely salad and roasted... More

We visited the Kirkstile Inn for lunch during our recent trip to Cumbria. We managed to get a table outside which made it even more pleasant as we were able to take in all of the spectacular views. For lunch, we thoroughly enjoyed their salmon sandwiches and with a pint to wash it down, it made for an even better... More

The Kirkstile has become an institution over the last decade or so. What a truly terrific pub this is, in one of the most beautiful (and relatively quiet) corners of the Lake District. A terrific array of their own brewed ales and a delicious selection of food from burgers and pies to right fancy stuff should you be inclined. After... More

Ate here three times whilst we were in the Lake District and it was amazing, the food was superb, the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Even though it was always busy we never had a long wait for our food. The inside of the pub is quirky with an open fire and a separate dinning room and a nice conservatory... More

Whilst out fell walking, a friend and I stumbled across this wonderful country pub in Loweswater, a very small village in the Lake District. This is an old pub with lots of atmosphere and is the spiritual home of Cumbrian Legendary Ales (the brewery has now moved a few miles away for more space). Not surprisingly it is a CAMRA... More

This was the 2nd time we have been to this lovely pub for lunch on a rainy day while staying in The Lakes and it did not disappoint. Full of character. Good local beers. Staff very helpful. Tasty food. We had omlette (needs the addition of side order of chips as quite small), chicken Caesar salad and salmon sandwich. Would... More
