Love this place and try to visit every time I'm n Tokyo. For a while it was closed but was pleasantly surprised when it re-opened. The lunch menu revolves around kushiage which is different items cooked on short sticks. Please note its not a few...pieces on a long stick like a kebab. Each item comes on its own small stick. For a basic lunch course its 8 pieces along with some refined small starters and with pudding to finish. It just across the road from Nezu Station so quite easy to find and the staff speak EnglishMore

A surprise to find such an old house in Tokyo with an excellent restaurant. On the Thursday evening of our visit they only served their famous skewers menu. In four rounds you will receive different skewers made from special ingredients such as mini crabs or...shellfish. Very tasty but maybe at a certain point something more substantial is wished for. The atmosphere is great and a definitely a special experience.More

This is a delightful restaurant in an charming old building in a residential area. Our lunch was fabulous - a set menu with dish after dish of beautifully balanced and carefully prepared food. Everything was excellent and quite delicious. Lunch is particularly good value. The...staff were very welcoming and friendly. Could not recommend this restaurant more highly.More

This restaurant is specialized in Kushiage (similar to tempura) and offers a very interesting set menu for lunch (around 30 euros - 35$). Remove your shoes and eat traditional style!

I had a great time to have Kushikatsu, which is one of Japanese traditional food of deep-fried. I visited here with my friends as my friend's recommended restaurant, and we enjoyed some Kushikatsu with a glass of beer and sake. Kushikatsu was very tasty, hot...and fragrant. This restaurant was old and calm atmosphere. I felt as if we have dinner in Japanese warehouse. The price was 6000 yen per person as a Kushikatsu course with some drinks. I think I want to visit again. If you visit here, I recommend to make a reservation.More

We were recommended as a local restaurant. We had lunch and order the house menu, a variety of fried fish, meat and vegetables, soup, rice and a very nice dessert and tea. Service was kind and excellent !!!

If you come here expecting huge portions of food, you'll be disappointed and it's not worth reading what comes next. The restaurant has two levels. Ground level: you can stay with your shoes and will probably share the table -- a beautiful, wooden table at...the entrance -- with other people, in our case all locals. This is where we've been seated -- we didn't have a reservation. There is one staff member who speaks good english and explains you the menu. It is basically a set menu, with six skewers of tempura -- for us, shrimp, chestnut, pork, scallop and code. Plus two appetizers. The quality of the fried food is outstanding. Crispy and light, very well prepared. You can order extra skewers, if you want. Highly recommended.More

We had lunch in Hantei and we loved it. We were welcomed by friendly staff who spoke sufficient English. There was no choice of meals possible but instead the restaurant offered fixed lunch menu. We got eight delicious skewers from different kinds of fish, vegetable...and meat as well as appetizer, fresh vegetables, rice with miso soup and dessert with tea. It was really tasty and we liked it a lot that the staff explained with each skewer what is it exactly and how should we eat it. In addition the restaurant is located in a beautiful building. Go there for tasty (but a bit expensive) food and great Japanese atmosphere!More

I disagree with those saying the food was not worth the price. I loved this place. Kushiyage is usually more of a street food but it was totally elevated here. Nothing was less than amazing. The miso dipping sauce for cold veggies, the various fried...sticks of yummy veggies, seafood and meat, the tomato mousse-- all of it start to finish was totally a YUM. I am excited to go back there. And of course the historic building is simply stunning. Loved it all.More

The space is very cozy and typical. The dinner is a set menu. The food is fine, tasty and with quality. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and spoke reasonable English. We paid around 50€ for 2 people.

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
