Was here from friend's recommendation. It wasn't the usual/traditional ramen you would expect with very spicy sauce. The noodles were chewy but I kinda wish they have an option that wasn't that spicy, I had the one with the lowest spicy level and was still sweating.

If you like spicy chewy ramen with a lot of cabbage, bean sprouts and tofu, this place will certainly hit the spot. We ordered the Super spicy ramen and our tongues were on fire! But that said, the ramen broth was absolutely tasty!

Place is small and there was a line but it was worth it. There is a reason there are plenty of bibs, napkins, and bibs available. We got the spicey one, and i was able to eat all the noodles but left most of the soup, as i was starting to really sweat. The guy next to me was smart, as he had a hand towel.

Super spicy ramen with a lot of flavor. You get to choose how spicy you want it to be but make sure you watch out as it could get super spicy.

We read some articles introducing this restaurant, and so we set our expectation pretty high. However, after trying, feel that is just fair. If you are just looking for fast food quality, or anything spicy, that is ok. The only thing special about the ramen is just spicy. Noodles and vegetables are over cooked. Noodles without texture. Soup too salty. Many other better choices if you are serious in Ramen. Maybe this restaurant put a lot of effort in marketing thou. What made it even worse, when I visited with my wife, she didn’t order so not allowed to get in. That is understandable if the restaurant is full. But when I got in, found that was actually half empty. So I guess is it pretending a top restaurant or what? With the ramen not so outstanding and my wife not allowed in even a lot of seats, I just leave without finishing the ramen, and go for a better shop nearby. There are a lot of better choices nearby.

This is the ramen place in a row by Shinagawa Station. I was brought by a friend who eats here and recommended it for the quality of the ramen. There is always a queue down the stairs from the street, which is a good sign. I was helped through the menu on the machine by the door and chose a limited edition ramen (only so many dishes available that day) that had been cooking overnight. It was really the best ramen I have ever tasted: spicy yes, but also having a depth of flavour from the long cooking. There was a boiled egg in the dish that just melted in the mouth. A culinary experience I will never forget!

I had my dining experience at the Shinagawa location but as TripAdvisor does not contain it in their database, I felt it necessary to share my tears of joy and pain here with the Shinjuku ramen lovers. Upon arriving at Moko Tanmen Nakamoto, the restaurant immediately outlined the levels to which I could incinerate my stomach lining ranging from a mild 1 all the way to the nuclear fissure that is Hokkyoku ramen at 9. Of course, being the responsible adult that I am, I promptly slapped my Chuck E. Cheese® tokens into the Skynet™ ticket dispenser and ordered the bowel geno-sizer or Hokkyoku ramen. As a connoisseur of spicy foods, I had the misguided notion that this ramen would be as small and insignificant as the island it was produced on. However, as soon as I laid waste to the remaining greenery this country had to offer in the form of the leafy greens in my ramen, I realized the battle had only merely begun. Much like how Oda Nobunaga’s dreams of conquest were split asunder, my stomach was feeling the might of the approaching army in the form of the magma broth and scorching noodles worming past the copious liquor I consumed earlier that day. As the war waged, I quickly came to realize this ramen was more than I had bargained for. I looked up from my bowl briefly to regain my composure only to see a salaryman in the corner of my vision sweating bullets and losing consciousness. As I thought “fighto!” to him, it also became my mantra to overcome this foe. Overcome I did, likely at the cost of being able to defecate without aid in my later years but the battle was won nonetheless. If you enjoy ramen and seek the thrill of battle, Hokkyoku ramen is your fight for the future.

We ate the spicy ramen noodles and loved it! We were the only westerners in the restaurant and it was our first meal in Tokyo, so we were a little intimidated by the "menu" which was a machine with only Japanese text and prices at the entrance (no pictures of food). But, the owner came over right away to help us order and pay for, the spicy ramen dishes. We were seated within a few minutes and the staff was very attentive, apologizing for our very reasonable and short wait. The ramen was delicious! Mine (medium spicy) was flavorful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. My husband enjoyed the extra spicy, which had a kick. There was water, extra spices and fresh ginger at the tables. It was busy the whole time we ate. We plan to return!

I went there alone around lunchtime before the queue was forming. I had no idea how the place worked but a japanese guy behind the counter came around and showed me a vending machine where you pay for your order and receive a ticket. I got what he said was their most popular order...some sort of tofu/pork ramen that was in the middle of the spicy scale. By far the best ramen I've ever had in my life.

We stumbled across this place thanks to the Shinjuku Ramen Map given to us by our concierge at the Hyatt Regency nearby. We were up early thanks to the jet lag and this was the first one to open. We got the spicy ramen and it really hit the spot! Very tasty broth and pork! We liked it so much that we went there 3 times during the 4 days we spent in Shinjuku! The service was friendly and it was not crowded as we went early. We will definitely go back there next time we are in the area!

The barrel of tissues by the door come in very handy since you will end up sweating and covered in spicy sesame oil. They even have a ramen cup you can buy at the convenience stores now. Get it super spicy with egg.
