We chose this restaurant based on the vibe and it didn’t disappoint! The roti came with samplings of a few curries and sauces. Food was fresh, cooked quickly and tasty. Service was great and prices reasonable. Our favourite restaurant in Mirissa

Fantastic kottu and friendly staff

Glad we found this place, as it was one of the best meals we had in Mirissa. We had hot butter cuttlefish (delicious!), mixed seafood kottu and noodles. Everything was freshly prepared (you can hear the chef's cutting up and cooking the roti). Really tasty food. Staff were super friendly and attentive.

Good service and even better food!

I went three times during my time in Mirissa. It was consistently flavourful, tasty and fairly quick service (didn’t wait more than 20mins). The prawn Kottu was my favourite - big portions and a good number of small prawns. The chicken soup with noodles was also very tasty but only good as an appetizer or with another small dish. You can definitely find cheaper options, but it’s worth it for a good meal. Some other people complained about their meals while I was there but I had a great experience and would highly recommend!

Horrible service

When we entered no one greeted us. After 20 minutes the waiter came with 1 menu for two people. When we asked for a second one he looked very annoyed. The kitchen was to loud and this combined with booming techno music made us decide to leave straight away. Because we couldn't even talk to each other. When we passed the waiter and he didnt seem surprised and even thanked us.

I thought that rotis are usually made from whole grain flour. The ones in this cafe were made from white wheat flour. Also my vegetable rotti was not spicy but rather salty. My husband had a banana chocolate rotti and he didn't like the flavor of the chocolate. But we are from Germany, spoiled with good chocolate so not the best reference!

Great grub

Top nosh We had passed this place in the day time, looks really nice. Decided to eat one evening. Our waiter Priyanga was a great lad, very chatty and helpful. I had chicken in szechuan sauce and my wife had vegetable fried rice both dishes were very hot, fresh and well presented. Also the beer was very cold ( most important). Prices were very reasonable. Well done all the staff especially Priyanga. Definitely pay this place a visit.

Very good food at a great price but it gets so loud in there and a couple of meager fans don't do much to cool you off on a typical hot and humid day. The service was great too.. Kinda highly recommended?

Literally amazing

Literally amazing. A group of us had the prawns, fish curry, roti, vegetable noodles, fried fish, banana roti, and cuttlefish... everything delicious. On top of that the service is very friendly and helpful. Everything was so good. Highly recommend.

Tasty, flavorful food

We ordered a vegetable soup, vegetable roti, fish curry and spicy prawns. All the food was delicious and very tasty, however the portion size is not that big. The guy in the front is not the most friendly but the guy who served us was great. He explained all the accompanying sauces and the meals.

Raw Chicken

Raw chicken… not much more to be said. Meal didn’t taste good and the chicken was visibly pink throughout, barely cooked at all. Staff were nice about it and didn’t charge us but still totally ruined our evening, and potentially our holiday.

Favorite restaurant Mirissa

We came the first day we were in Mirissa and we end up coming every night to try all the dishes from the menu! One of the best meals we had in our whole trip to Sri Lanka. I will definitely recommend everyone to try the kottu and the different currys and fish, sea food etc. Also very friendly stuff!

Best Kottu ever!!

We went 4 times in 2 days just to get one more kottu: veggie kottu, cheese kottu younameit kottu.. We tried several kottu all over Sri Lanka and after 1 month trip, we can declare Big Belly as The nr 1 kottu ever. Great service, very nice staff.

The many positive reviews had prompted us to go there...I frankly wonder where these came from. First, the positive...very nice quaint ambience and friendly dedicated service. The food I would call the worst after 15x eating out of all categories in Sri Lanka. Cuttlefish squid in pepper sauce were cheap fried calamari rings with a heavily soy-heavy meaningless sauce, plus absolutely nothing except rice for just under 3000 rupees. Lemon Prawns is also a bust. Fried and greasy, sauce boring, no side dish. Overall, everything prepared and served abundantly unlovingly. The food of the children (spring rolls and fries) was ok. The prices quoted are abundantly high for what is offered

We were served amazing food by the nicest, kindest man. I would recommend the vegetable spring rolls and mixed seafood rice. Be carefull though as the servings are extremely large, we had to take the extra food for take away ❤️ thanks guys, looking forward to eating in Big Belly again soon!

Nice variety of food and friendly staff

We had a couple of appetizers, noodles and garlic fish. The appetizers came with a variety of different sauces from spicy to sour. It definitely enhanced the experience to have so many flavors to try. We asked for a birthday surprise for our driver and they made a beautiful small cake. Staff was friendly. The food took a little longer, but was worth the wait. My wife thought the food was just good, but nothing special. I loved it though.
