MICHELIN Bib Gourmand: Good quality, good value cooking
The story of the international chain famous for xiao long bao dates back to 1972 when its first shop opened on Xinyi Road. The former flagship eatery is now takeaway-only, but dine-in service is available on the other side of the street in a 330-seater four-storey venue inaugurated in 2020. Besides the aforementioned soup dumplings, also try the sweet and sour pork, bitter melon pork rib soup and steamed taro buns.

It was a weekday but it was lunchtime so there were a lot of people in front of the restaurant! It said 70 minutes wait! But I wanted to eat so I took my turn. They spoke to me in Japanese and gave me a numbered ticket. When you are called, you go to the place you got your ticket from. While you wait, you order food using the QR code on the numbered ticket. My husband went for a walk and was able to sit in the chair in front so my daughter and I waited. It seemed like they could tell us our turn on their smartphone, but maybe it was a signal, but it wasn't the way it was called on the screen in the store... I was bored so I figured out how the order in which numbers are called works? Once I understood that maybe I would be called next, I called my husband back right away. As expected, he was called! Even if it said 70 minutes, it seems that sometimes you can be called before you have to wait 30 minutes.
Since we had already ordered, the food came as soon as we sat down, and the taste was delicious, not only the Xiaolongbao but everything we ate was delicious, the staff were nice, it was clean and the toilets were clean. It was a happy lunch♪

Excellent dumplings, especially the steamed pork and shrimp. Located in the food section of a shopping centre, this very busy restaurant takes your name and gives you a number with an estimate of when your table will be ready - which leaves you free to wander through the amazing shopping area. Food was great, staff peofessional, and all very efficient.

This original Ding Tai Fung location in Taipei is now TO GO only! This is not a complaint, but a compliment! All our favorite food items are available and packaged so carefully that it was still warm when it arrived at home. We enjoyed the xiao long bao, the steamed vegetarian dumplings, the pork & veggie wontons, the minced pork noodles (jia jiang mien,) etc. The won tons were packaged separately from the soup so that the won tons would not overcook on the way back. The vegetarian dumplings were not dyed green like they are here in the U.S. Ding Tai Fungs. You also get a really nice reusable Ding Tai Fung bag, which you do not get when getting takeout from the other branches of DTF. It is also located very conveniently on the MRT subway!

I've been here several times and generally found the service to be good. However, this time was quite outrageous. After finishing my meal and heading to the restroom without settling the bill, the server cleaning the table poured my juice, which I bought from an outside juice bar, without asking. I was shocked because I had only taken a sip while waiting and planned to finish it after leaving the restaurant. It was a disappointing experience.

I had lunch. We had several kinds of Xiaolongbao. It is a xiaolongbao containing pork, shrimp, fish and vegetable filling. The pork filling overflows from the skin and is delicious. The skin is thin, which brings out the flavor of the plan. The crispy texture of the shrimp was also very good. I think the vegetables had a firm taste of chives. The fish is white and fluffy. They were all delicious Xiaolongbao. Fried rice was also included. They may have cooked it to Japanese taste, but it was very delicious. The sour and spicy water was also fresh with vinegar. It is a delicious gem. The last xiaolongbao with bean paste was also very delicious, like Usukawa manju. This is the kind of place you might want to visit in Japan.

Appetizers: The spicy and sour taste is super appetizing
Xiaolongbao, vegetable and meat steamed dumplings, pan-fried dumplings: Xiaolongbao has just the right filling, juicy, and no fishy smell to the meat, so you will be satisfied every time. The vegetable and meat steamed dumplings taste fresh and healthy, and you can eat them without any burden. The fried dumplings have crispy skin and are best eaten hot.
Chicken soup: Chicken soup with clear soup, healing your mouth

If you’ve been to DTF, then you can expect the same consistent quality and tastiness from them. Servers are polite and efficient. There really is no difference in terms of food and service between this DTF and other branches. But if you must dine here because this is the original location, see my comments below.
If you’ve never been there, you simply must try the truffle pork xlb! The hot and sour soup is just OK.
Things to consider:
- Cash only @ this location. Other locations accept credit cards.
- No elevator. The restaurant is in a skinny but tall building with only a few tables on the first floor. Stairwell is super narrow, only 1 person can pass at a time (or 2 children, or 2 slim people). Do not come to this location if you are unable to climb stairs or need plenty of room to be comfortable.
- 3 hours line can be expected and everyone congregate in front of the store. Don’t be one of these people.
TIPS: download their app on your phone! The app will show the line number being called so at least you can explore the shops around while waiting. The app monitors line number for their other locations as well.
You’re welcome!

Din Tai Fung first opened in Xinyi Road, Taipei, in the 1980s, and its dumplings were so delicious that Din Tai Fung spread around Taiwan, then around the world. The restaurant and cuisine are traditional Chinese and rellatively simple. The secret is to make dumplings that are consistenly excellent. Din Tai Fung is best known for is shao long bao (soup dumplings). Nibble a tiny hole in the skin of the dumpling and suck out the broth, Careful! It's very hot!

Wow. I've been eating this type of food all my life in Hawaii, and this experience was out of this world. The cucumbers were perfect. The unique bailey they have melts in your mouth. The shrimp fried rice is the best I have ever had. I shall return!

Regardless of the Michelin star, this is one of the best restaurants in Taipei that I recommend. People may say it's overrated due to Takashimaya's influence, but you should try and see for yourself.
As there's usually a long queue during business hours, it's best to go early and get a number ticket. If the waiting time is over 30 minutes, I recommend killing time at a park nearby or browse shops in the area while you wait.

We went here on recommendations from colleagues and were not disappointed. We tried the pork/truffle xialongbao at this location and were blown away. The staff made an awesome recommendation to cleanse our palette with the tea between each dish and it was much appreciated because everything was so complex and different.
You should get the Din Tai Fung application to see when the wait time is low to help plan your visit. There are many shops to check out in this area if you are willing to wait up to 140 minutes during peak time for your own table. If you are in a small group they may ask if you don't mind sharing a table with other small groups. While you wait the staff will give you a checklist menu so you can order your food prior to going up. The food comes out quick and the staff will allow you to order more if you see something else you want to try. Enjoy and be careful as the bill will quickly add up!

The ORIGINAL Din Tai Fung cannot be surpassed (not even by its La Jolla, CA branch). The seemingly long wait to be seated and ultra-busy atmosphere are offset by the quality of service and, of course, their famous soup dumplings. Sous chefs are busily making mouth-watering packets of delights in full view. The savory packages of meat or seafood and broth tease the palate to crave for more. Experience the original!

The Taipei 101 location was too busy so we took the MRT to this location and the wait was only 10 minutes. The service was polite and fast, the food was delicious. We have great authentic dumplings in Toronto, but these were the best I’ve ever had!!! Great flavour in the broth and filling! The veggie fried rice was also really flavourful and the cucumber was a nice fresh bite! It’s a little more expensive than dimsum prices, but the taste was undeniable!

Din Tai Fung is regarded as the gold standard in Shao Lung Bao. The restaurant is sparkling clean and the service is snappy. You go to a restaurant, not only for the food, but also the ambiance, You may be able to find dumplings of similar quality, but none better. Even Old China Hands acknowledge that Din Tai Fung serves the best Shao Lung Bao in Taipei.

Din Tai Fung is a chain of traditional Chinese dumpling restaurants that has spread around the world. The chain's secret is that although the xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are relatively simple to make, the quality is consistently high. Din Tai Feng is extremely popular, so arrive early; the restaurant is always packed at mealtimes. Both the restaurant and cuisine are traditional Chinese.
