It’s my first time to visit here .the dishes are awesome and reminds me the similar brunch in America but one thing I need to complain about is I ordered the side dish for scrambled eggs .it costs me NT$40 just like this .I said to clerk but she just replied we served just like what you see .I think the service is not quite good.anyway I like your food as well .

Uptowner is as close to an American diner experience as you can get in Taiwan. It is owned and run by people from the USA that have owned and run diners there, This place is very popular with ex-pats, many who are regulars and some who eat here every day. The waitstaff is good with English and the menus easy to navigate for an English speaker. They are known for their hash browns, which we all had, and interestingly enough for their vegetable burgers, which they make themselves and one of our group had. The other three of us had breakfasts and were all happy. The pancakes were definitely made from their own batter, it was thick and full of cinnamon. There also supplied a bottle of pancake syrup instead of a very small amount, as is common locally. The place is not convenient to where we are staying, but we would go back if close by.

As a former member of the Armed Forces and current reservist, I have spent my fair share of time in hostile environments, yet none of the training I received two decades ago prepared me for the Uptowner Taichung. This place is brutal! My first visit was last month with my wife and kids. I ordered the reuben which wasn't bad, but I had difficulty enjoying my sandwich as a drunk patron repeatedly sat down at our table and began eating my fries. They were not the best fries, so it wasn't the end of the world. Did I mention this was around noon? My wife ordered the mushroom Swiss burger which she said was good while my daughter ordered chicken strips which she barely ate as they were overcooked to the point they were black. We sent them back, yet we never received a new order of chicken. I had to take my kid to MacDonals where she was much happier. Luckily, the intoxicated man who ate my fries also liked burnt chicken. We asked the staff to keep the drunk man away as my daughter was scared. The man was seemingly a regular at the Uptowner and the staff found his antics amusing. No action was taken. Several weeks later, my colleague, and I had a craving for chicken wings. He suggested "Wings Wednesday" at the Uptowner. I told him about our previous experience, but my colleague assured me the wings were good. Turns out that is a matter of opinion. We ordered five varieties of wings, Buffalo, Spicy Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Spicy BBQ and Parmesean. The only type of wings that were any good were the parmesean wings. The rest were dry and inedible. Seriously, we didn't eat them. I'm not sure what the standard is there, but it's low. To make matters worse, the Uptowner was full of intoxicated patrons. The table beside us was unruly. It seems to me the Uptowner is more interested in getting people to come there to drink alcohol rather than providing quality food for their customers. The food is hit and miss and the atmosphere is terrible at the Uptowner. I don't recommend spending your hard earned money at the Uptowner as you might be disappointed.

Came here with my wife and daughter on a Wednesday afternoon. Service was great and the food was delicious! I had a reuben 10/10, my wife had a cajun breakfast 9/10 and my daughter had a kids grilled cheese and fries 8/10. It’s always rare to find a rueben and even more difficult to find a reuben done right! I would highly recommend getting the reuben if you like sandwiches! The cajun breakfast was very good and came with toast. The only negative was the adult meals don’t include drinks, other than that a great experience!

If dirty, unfriendly, and generic American is what you are looking for, this is your place. My mistake to stop in here for a beer after some salty 粥 elsewhere. Post-covid, I don't expect especially friendly service (though most places in Taiwan are very friendly). That said, I at least expect a simple thank you when I pay. That is the minimum. No "thank you" here, no "hello" or "welcome" upon arrival. Very sullen atmosphere. Server insisted on speaking in broken, bad English in response to fluent Chinese. Never had that experience elsewhere at scores of restaurants in Taiwan.

The new location is very close to the original as is the menu. A great taste of home for expats and as great for locals looking for American diner type dishes. The outdoor seating is great too, but may be hot come summer. Indoor seating is upstairs.

When you crave for spicy buffalo wings this is definitely a place to try out. They have juicy burgers and i enjoy their sandwiches as well. Definitely a great hang out spot, and very reasonably priced. Great staff and they can speak English.

The food is good but the dirtiness of the place didn’t make the experience nice. There is so much potential I am so sorry to see it waisted. I see many places in wurst condition but I was this is “ owned “ by Americans and I thought it could be better !

You know that moment you crave a really good original burger. Yes the Gourmet stuff is nice but these take you back to when people did not count every calorie or what the fat content was. I love the Swiss Mushroom burger and sweet potato fries. That a large Ginger ale and seat in front of the fan and leave me be for 30 min or so. Nothing fancy just down good breakfast and lunch menu that will satisfy that need.

I added this place to my TripAdvisor Taichung visit, as I had passed a few times in the past but hadn't been open. Waited almost 10 minutes to order a beer, got the impression from 2 of the staff they were a bit miffed I wasn't ordering food with my beer. Their strength is obviously breakfast food looking at the menu. I finished my beer and left, I didn't find the atmosphere very inviting to sit for a few beers. Between the drunk Aussies & Americans, children in high chairs screaming, and the unfriendly staff, the decision to move on was easy. There was even an American guy spitting in the road... Nice! Disappointing place, maybe because there are better local places to relax.

Typical American diner food. Their wraps are really good. I'm not a fan of their breakfasts but I know many people who enjoy it. The staff can be absent, so you just have to get their attention constantly. The milkshakes here are also really good.

I've been going here for years for "comfort food" and am seldom let down. The diner "staples" are top notch. You'd be hard pressed to find a joint anywhere on this island that can serve up a plate of eggs benny and hash browns as well as The Uptowner. They also have the best damn Bloody Mary in Taiwan. Thats a fact. That said, they do have some issues with consistency. When the American cooks are manning the grill, the quality is always fantastic (they own the place and they make sure its done right)! However, their Taiwanese cook staff don't always seem to follow suit... I've had a few flagerently bad meals served to me during the low hours (when the owners aren't manning the grill), but I suppose thats par for the course for American food in Taiwan. All that said... this place is a solid 4.5
