Taiwan is known for Pineapple cakes but they aren’t all created equal. Sometimes I have super dry pineapple cakes that just crumble all over the place. But this place, it’s THE pineapple cake place you need when you’re in Taiwan. Not only are the pineapple...cakes sweet and slightly moist, that moment you bite into one, the perfect chewiness just makes you foodgasm. It’s so good! I get this for all of my friends when they come and it’s their favorite too.More

My sister dragged us here to get pineapple cake souvenirs as they are the best. We taste compared them with another decent brand we saw in the subway, and they are significantly better, though almost twice the cost. The cash line is much faster than...the credit card line, mostly because people in the credit card line include those buying many boxes. My sister bought a couple hundred cakes and the guy before her bought twice as many! They apparently have no preservatives which is probably another reason they taste so good. They are good for 40 days but I'd recommend eating them earlier than later. The ones we are right away were better than the last few I ate shortly before expiration. Though they were still very good!More

The pastries here are always great. The line can be very long. So it's best to order online and you can either pay for delivery or pick up in person for free. You don't have to stay in line for online purchase.

This flagship store is a different experience than visiting the sunny hills one. There was a long line up outside the store to wait to get in. And once you are in it's grab whatever you want at your leisure or buy sets that have...already been completed at the check out counter. It's pretty much a supermarket for pineapple cakes and other goodies versus sunny hills where there was no line and you are escorted in as if it was a restaurant. I'm not sure if there are benefits of buying from the Chia Te flagship store instead of at a 7/11 or other stores that carry them.More

The shop was very calm on a weekday evening and it was nice that you could just get a box and choose the pastry filling that you like. Be aware that the prices per piece depends on the filling and be sure to check the...expiration date. Items with egg yolk seemed to have a shorter life span than the regular pineapple-filled pastry which lasts for 40 days.More

The bakery is located in a less popular district of Taipei so basically there is nothing else there apart from the bakery to patronise. However, the bakery serves up the best traditional sun cakes, biscuits and pineapple cakes. Br prepared to queue if you are...there after 10am. The bakery is very small despite its popularity and relentless flow of patrons. It’s hard to navigate through the surging crowd if you are going to buy boxes of sun or pineapple cakes. But, there is no need for you to gather all these boxes as you shop. Just look at their display offerings n tick off on the order sheets. Thereafter, just collect and pay for them at the checkout counters.More

I have tried many pineapple tarts in Taipei and I must confess this store is one of the best that I have tried so far. So much choice and variety to choose from. Remember to try the onion nouget biscuit, so nice!

You can buy pineapple tart anytime here but I would recommend tai yang bing (太阳饼)instead. Chia te tai yang bing is the best so far. Be sure to reach early as they will not make more tai yang bing after sold out.

If you can, visit them early in the morning (opening hours 8am to 10pm daily). Otherwise be prepared to queue twice - once to enter the shop AND then queue again to make payment. The lines move pretty fast though. The shop is a 2-minute...walk from Exit 2 of Nanjing Sanmin MRT station on the green Songshan Xindian line (towards Songshan). Their pineapple cake is too sweet for me and my parents but we found the pineapple cake with salted egg yolk just perfect in terms of the level of sweetness. The Lao Po Bing (Wife Cake) was to die for! Buttery flaky crust with a delicately flavoured winter melon filling...yum!More
