Really our best restaurant in Crete so far. We came 4 times in 2 days and everything was delicious and generous. Real home cooking. Everything was perfect. Thanks Monica!
You better stop and eat here. Authentic Greek home cooked food. You have to try the daily dishes, they are breath taking
Ok , our second stay in Moni in 2 years …. Left a review last year … returned again for another 2 weeks and feel another review is deserved … Monica and Michalis run a very unassuming establishment… low key , by the roadside in...a little village BUT …to anyone in South West Crete so worth a visit .. Home cooked , traditional food all lovingly prepared by Monica ( typical menu see photo ) … we cannot express enough how wonderful An to Petyxeis is …. Thank you for such wonderful food xxMore
This Taverna must be visited if you are in the area, and once visited you will definitely want to return again and again. The variety and quality of home cooked dishes is absolutely wonderful, whether you are stopping for breakfast, a snack, or dinner. The...atmosphere is relaxing and the welcome from Monica and her family always warm. You will never be disappointed with whatever choice you make from the extensive menu.More
We dined for six days at Sougia, and for four days we did it in this restaurant: I think that in this sentence we can summarize how much we appreciated it. We discovered “An to Petikeis” on the evening of the second day, and we...were fond of it. In fact it was too advantageous to dine here rather than elsewhere, for the taste of the food that is served here. Being three, in four days we enjoyed many of the restaurant's specialties, especially among the “day dishes”. Then, lamb chops (sublime), chicken stew, rabbit stew, pork with apricots and plums, “boureki” (to die for), baked onions, aubergines and peppers. Moreover, almost always a side dish of “koriatike”, ie Greek salad. Dishes as you can see simple and traditional, but based on high quality ingredients and prepared with rare skill. All preceded by a plate of fabulous olive oil with lemon, in which diners can soak some bread while waiting for the dishes to be served. And as a drink, white and red house wine, very fragrant and delicious. Very fair bills. At the end of the dinner, almost always a raki offered by the owners. What more can I say?More
It's nothing else left to say! You said it all! THANK YOU!!!
Well where do I start …. My fiancé and I were lucky enough to be staying in Moni just yards from the taverna . We were in Moni for 14 nights and we ate at An to Petyxeis 10 times …. Not because we had...to …we WANTED to …. The food was amazing ….the staff were welcoming ….the ambience was chilled … We enjoyed fantastic , traditional Cretan dishes that had obviously been prepared with love and care . Too many wonderful dishes to list but the Bureki and beef with artichokes were so special ( oh and the rabbit stifado too ) … Wonderful , indulgent desserts followed …for me the highlight was ( as written on the specials board ) no name dessert ! Yes ; as it sounds just a ‘little something put together ‘ but wow !!! As for the house wine ….as a reviewer has already mentioned we’ve paid 4 times more for a wine that comes no where near the quality we enjoyed here …. Simply put ….amazing place ….More
I don't know how to thank you... It was our pleasure to have you here and serve you! Hope to see you again next summer! Regards from me and Michalis
Very good food, we’ve been there two times and tried more than 6 dishes - every single one was very good. On top, you get chilled atmosphere and absolutely nice and friendly people. Highly recommend!
Thank you a lot for your nice words!
We had many meals in this Taverna and had a chance to sample much of the menu. The food is superb. The hosts, Monica and her husband are wonderful. Monica guides you through the menu, recommending local Cretan dishes which she has perfected. An absolute...gem.More
Eireanna, thank you so much for your kindness!
Quite a decent experience! Both waiters were kind and with a smile. The menu was small due to “COVID-19 circumstances” but very pleasing. Fresh ingredients, good quality of olive oil and fruity white wine. For sure a nice choice in the area.
Thank you so much!
Definitely the best meals we had in Crete. Original flavours, nothing too fancy but still nicely presented. A lot of options (no main meal for vegetarian though) and an authentic setting make it a restaurant you have to try.
Thank you very much!
This place is absolutely wonderful. We ate many times during our stay and were completely awed by the care and love that went into the food and the service. This family restaurant has recipes that are fused from generations and families and histories. Even their...dog is filled with smiles and laughter :) The food was really hearty and everything, even the chips, are grown or raised by them. A particular highlight was the chicken in tomato sauce, totally unlike any chicken you’ve ever had, lamb in wine sauce and, a must have, are the stuffed zucchini flowers. We asked about their animals and farms and were invited to go and help feed the wild goats and sheep, even hear the bees. The animals love him so much and he knows them so well. Thank you for such a memorable experience! We miss you!More
Hey Natalie, thank you very much for your beautiful words! It was a pleasure for us having you and Dominic here! We really had a good time! Hope to see you again soon, hugs and kissed! We miss you! Ps Regards from Iasonas:)😏
Took a little stop here on our way to Sougia beach, we ate cheesecake and a cretan salad, both were very good, the salad was the best i've had in a long time, thank You from the Finnish couple ☺
Wow, what can I say about this unpretentious road side taverna? Monica is a wonderful host, keen to chat to us and share her stories. Food is all home cooked using mostly home grown, reared meat and vegetables, in delicious sauces. Very generous portion sizes and...delicious. Lots of daily specials in addition to the menu. Homemade wine was very good, have paid more for less good "branded" wines. We were in a villa a few kilometres away, and we all agreed there was no point eating anywhere else. Slow cooked meat dishes along with the fresh pesto pasta were amazing. All very reasonabley priced.More
Andrew, you and your family are the best!!! Thank you so much for coming back and for the nice words you said about us! Hope to see you again next year! Thank you, Monica
We ate here twice whilst around Sougia area. The family were so lovely and helpful. The food was delicious and home cooked. Monica was great with menu adjustments for my partner who has intolerances. I'd highly recommended.
Thank you Alexandra, it was my pleasure!
