After seeing such a lot of advertisement on Facebook about this place we decided to book our first valentines meal there .we arrived early 7pm for a 7
30 booking
We were welcomed and taken upstairs .upon being seated we noted absolutely no evidence of valentines ,no decor and not very welcoming .even the tea light on our table was empty and off and every other table was the same ! .our server took a drinks order and informed us a couple of things were sold out .we eventually decided against the set valentines menu and went for a sharing plater costing ÂŁ55 .we were told they had no rack of ribs were available but short ribs would replace them .
When our meal arrived we were told they had also run out of onion rings and they were replaced by belly pork .
The meal was terribly over cooked .pork inedible ,some random pigs in blankets were absolutely cremated and the hotdog was awful .infact it was an absolute waste of money and ruined our valentines as we ended up at McDonald's! And 55 pounds down .such a terrible shame that they advertised a special valentines meal but did nothing to make it a special romantic experience.
Must add that we were so disappointed that we left without having a sweet and was treated with the bill and a single red rose .Nice touch but too little too late .won't be returning .this is a very rare occasion that I'm leaving a poor review as I like to only give praise and credit where its due but this spoilt a very special occasion to us

I’m really conflicted writing this review. Having been on previous visits and had a very enjoyable meal, for which I will leave reviews separately, I decided to visit here with some friends on a Saturday evening.
We had booked our table for 7:30 pm, however were told that there would be a slight delay due to a table turning up who did not have a booking as the manager had run off with their cash deposit.
One whole hour later we were finally seated.
One hour. Unfortunately, we did not have means to go anywhere else so we’re stuck. Otherwise we would have left.
The starters came promptly and were average. I ordered burnt ends but they weren’t really burnt ends. They were just chopped up bits of meat.
Our main course then took a further 45 minutes to arrive.
The food was delicious, I had the pork belly
For dessert, I ordered the honeycomb cheesecake, but it was chocolate cheesecake with some crunchy bits in. I can only assume they were honeycomb. I didn’t eat it as I did not want chocolate cheesecake. I wanted honeycomb cheesecake.
When it came to pay the bill, there was a huge discussion as we had only had three drinks each, but we charged for four drinks each. This was sorted out eventually, but left a very bitter taste in my mouth.
I will definitely return, but I will avoid busy periods as the pub does not seem to cope very well at busy times .

Very disappointing visit .
We were visiting friends thaf live localltly celebrating a birthday with a table of 12, mixed ages.
Some ordered starters which we were told as they are small plates they will arrive as they come which was fine as we weren't all having them.
The starters ( We did mention the portion sizes but were told it had come from management so couldnt not be changed)
Salt and pepper Calamari- 4 child bite size pieces ÂŁ9
Prawn coctail - very small no bread about half a cup of prawns in sauce for ÂŁ9
Mushroom in truffle and cheese - ÂŁ6 ( 1 yes just 1 small flat mushroom in a dish it was ridiculous )
Mains took about 1.5 hrs to arrive which was too long baring in mind half the party didn't have starters.
They were nice enough however the battered cod was over cooked and peas were barely warm.
Deserts again were tasty but took a good 45- 50 minutes for crumble and waffles to arrive.
When the bill came we were shocked that we may beed to remortgage as a glass of Rose was more than ÂŁ12 per glass!!!
All in all it was a disappointing visit for us, over priced starters for the portion sizes and very slow service baring in mind we booked they were not prepared for a large booking. Such a shame as upon arrival the pub itself and atmosphere seemed promising
Qe couldn't praise the young lady that served us more was very polite and tried as hard as she could we could not fault her at all.
The restaurant wasn't overly busy but they seemed understaffed to handle the bookings they had.

A pre-planned and pre-booked Birthday meal out for two of us. A deposit taken but a group of 14 turned up and trumped our pre paid deposit booking so we were shown to a cramped corner table where we would have been better off eating off our laps.
We were asked to wait a while and then shown to the same tiny corner table again. A complete waste of an evening such that I took the unusual step of refusing to pay for our pre-dinner drinks.
Utter chaos in the restaurant.
I’d like to see this place thrive and the owners, who also own Chapmans in Canterbury, have a better reputation than this so much work will be needed before it is suitable.

Had a lovely lunch with four adults, a toddler and a baby. Food was delicious and the two members of staff were lovely. Thank you to the staff member who held my baby so I could eat with both hands - such a big deal when caring for a newborn. Nice outdoor area that my toddler enjoyed exploring and looking at the fish. The staff were very kind and allowed us to explore upstairs with my curious toddler too. Overall a great experience!

Where to start, got there and offered tap water, then was given the menu and no where near the same as online, had the crayfish starter and sent it back after one bite as no taste and no sauce, water at the bottom so was frozen, then had the lobster only to be told dosnt come with anything, then asked to have some sides and got told we don’t do them but will ask the chef, then it came 2 bites of lobster and was gone, chips were awlful and onions rings were chewy. Then the moment my fork hit the table they cleared the table. We were there for a hour what a joke. I will never go there again and will tell everyone to avoid.

Booked here as it looked so lovely driving past, was all lit up for Christmas. So we booked for our new Year's Eve meal. Well ..... The food just tasted of vinegar and the management we're also sour. I would never book to eat here again, the atmosphere wasn't great either. Such a shame as it's a beautiful building but unfortunately that's all it is, a beautiful building

Went for an Easter Sunday lunch and was surprised I was able to get a table at short notice on such a busy day……
The service was fine and beef & chicken were very good, however the “famous’” Yorkshire puddings were all but cremated, as were the potatoes and half of the other vegetables. Upon reflection I should have sent it back.
A great shame because the key elements were of good quality and cooked beautifully.

Chose wagu burger. Chips had odour of old oil and the were overcooked and also tasted of old oil. Burger had too much hot sauce for my taste, masked taste of the meat. Burger was also overcooked.
Given size of dish and no sides apart from chips price point was too high.

We came for Sunday lunch, on arrival we had two young children in a double pram and the manager was very accommodating on finding us somewhere as having a double pram is not the smallest of items.
Once sat, we were given the Sunday lunch menu and our drinks order was taken, the Sunday lunch menu had some good choices on but they only do Sunday lunch for main course no other options. However they do a 2/3 course deal. We had the pate to start which was very tasty and well presented, then to follow I had the beef and my partner had the lamb, the first roast dinner that came out was not even hot it was just cold, the manager came over to check we was okay after a couple of minutes of our dinner arriving we explained and he apologised and rectified it and we then received to fresh roast dinners, with pigs in blankets complementary from the kitchen, the second roast dinner came out piping hot and was absolutely delicious the meat was cooked was perfectly but the roast potatoes they were borderline raw and could not be eaten, the manager was very apologetic and did rectify it very quickly. For deserts we had cherry pie and cheesecake which were both delicious the only comment I would have there was nothing chocolate on the desert choice!
One last comment we do have is that the chef was more out front than in the kitchen though so maybe if he spent more time in the kitchen we wouldn’t of had any problems? Or maybe he was getting confused what his job role was.
Overall we would go back, the pub is stunning inside and service from the front of house staff was brilliant.

Food was tasty although the steak was not cooked to are specifications. The service was really off and almost everything apart from the flavour of food and the company wasn’t on point. Really need to work on the whole customer experience. Such a same as the food great for the price, great atmosphere and the decor was beautiful. Won’t be coming back.

Having not visited this establishment for some time due to lockdown and it not being open for a period of time as well. We visited this restaurant last week.
It was a very mixed experience
Initially we thought we'd like to sit upstairs, but that area was simply not inviting at all, and looked as though a wedding had just happened up there, and not been cleared away properly
So we came back downstairs and chose a different table, which was fine
We ordered food and drink very successfully
Both were excellent, especially the food
We would highly recommend that except the fish starter that said it had caviar on top, but actually had pomegranate seeds on top, and there was no sign of caviar at all
There was also a waitress with the most incredibly long nails, which personally I don't feel is appropriate when handling and serving food who at one point came to the table and asked us in the most extraordinary manner. Did you want anything else on reading this it sounds okay, but at the time we were all a bit taken aback by her manner. Maybe she was new and needs more training
Our issue arose when it came to payment
We are a group of friends who dine together regularly and tend to use cash to pay as we receive cash for our work at times and it's a good way to use it
When it came to payment, we were informed it was card only
We initially said we didn't have that facility only cash and what could they do?
The Waitress fetched someone else without telling him why she had fetched him
He was flummoxed as to what to do, and insisted that the information was available on the website in the newspapers, and at the establishment itself
I did some serious research on this subject and the only place I could find it was on their website under ownership where it listed the cards they do take accept, but it didn't mention cash at all which in itself isn't totally clear
It certainly didn't mention it on the menu. We saw no mention at the door as we came in or anywhere else within the property.
We don't live near enough to take a newspaper that would be relevant, so I can't comment on that
In other words, it really was not clear that you could not use cash at all not even if you only wanted a glass of Coke
So two points really arise here
one is it must be made significantly clear before you even enter the property and the other is what about those people who do not carry cards or even have cards? They do exist !
We will certainly return as we did enjoy the meal and the experience, and it will be interesting to see if they've made it clearer regarding the payment issues

I don’t know where to start. Drink order wrong, starter wrong and warm I suppose that’s better than cold.
My partners started never appeared. I ate a scallop and have to say was very chewy with nothing else on the plate. Over £12 for four poorly cooked ones at that. Main nothing to write home about. Over cooked chicken breast, although I’m not sure I had the full chicken breast on my plate as it was insanely small!
When they realised they had messed up we were offered a free pudding. We didn’t take the offer of a free pudding as to be honest we just wanted to leave.
Over priced and bland. Such a shame as the building is beautiful but the staff lack knowledge on the menu as I overheard the next table ask what the burger came with and her reply was I don’t know I’ve never had it lol. Oh nearly forgot I had chosen my meal off the online menu before arriving, nope menu changed last week. When paying for the meal we were asked if we would like to tip. We refused. Only tip I would give is train the staff on the menu and look for another chef as this one isn’t working by all accounts.

We should have guessed when carpark empty! First of all let me say the waitress was lovely. Apologies throughout and clearly embarrassed about the experience we had.
The menu was different to online. A few items not available.
Ordered our meal only to be served up different starters as they were unavailable. Didn't ask us! Then to be told the ovens weren't working. We had to change our order. As the evening went on, it got worse. The chips, onion rings and fish had all been deep fried and awlful. All the chips not touched! Onion rings also cremated.
When it came to paying the bill it wasn't correct. They were sorry but what a shame. A special birthday ruined.
Only 1 other couple ate there all evening whilst we were there.

So disappointing when eating out one expects to find food presented as good as what you eat at home and as cooked by professional chefs much better. Vegetables are either under or overcooked and not much flavour, I had roast beef and was ok on a previous visit I had pork which was too tough to eat, you might ask why I ate there again but was invited by friends who paid the bill.why do many Sunday lunches include oversized Yorkshire puddings that are totally tasteless. Would love to see this pub to succeed as the interior is just what you want from your local. I hope the staff take their reviews seriously and act upon them.
