Iffy..

Used to come here a lot and then had one bad experience when the chef changed. Came back after hearing that it had changed again and it was much improved. Back to its normal high standard. (Visited over the Christmas period but ordered off normal menu)

We have regularly eaten here when visiting the Forest of Dean, but this time the meal was a disappointment. The local pork (Blaisdon pork) was tough, but on the other hand the scampi portion was enormous. There has been a change of ownership, and this is reflected by the enthusiasm of the staff to see you enjoy your visit. There... More

This a traditional old pub. The restaurant area has been redone is a tasteful way which retains its atmosphere. Patrons are immediately made to feel welcome by the owners Sharon and Kaushik and, because of this, the ambiance is warm and the service friendly. I went with two other members of my family for Sunday lunch. The food was well... More

I've eaten here a couple of times now and it's always been fab! Every meal has been delicious. Both the restaurant and garden are comfortable and the service is always cheery.

Ate here with the family Christmas Day and couldn't of been more disappointed of the standard of food , which was defiantly below par. Would of expected something half decent for the price of £60, a school canteen meal would of been better cooked and tastier. the starter of pheasant was over cooked and dry, the pear and Stilton soup,... This restaurant enjoys a good reputation locally but we were disappointed with our last visit. No problem with the welcome or the service but the food was definitely below par. The poached salmon was very 'Tesco' with the skin left on , the burger was lacking in meat and mushy, the fishcakes tasted only of lemongrass and the salad was... More

Seems to have had a paint job internally but tables still in poor condition.. Dyer need of rubbing down and rewaxing. Food wasn't bad but resent being referred to as 'you guy's by the waitress every time she came to the table. Was much better under the previous management a few years ago Shame as its a nice old English... More

Have been going here on and off for some years and always found it to be full of atmosphere and good food. Our recent visit was not good at all - hardly anyone in (should have been a giveaway!), appalling service (in need of some quality staff service training), very, very disappointing food (eg a so-called 'chowder' with no fish... I stumbled across this good beer guide listed pub on a walk in inclement weather about 10 minutes before opening. I was sheltering from a heavy squall in the porch, and very happy to wait the 10 minutes til it opened, but was invited in early, even though the staff still had tasks to complete before opening. My welcome could... More

Certainly off the beaten track but this pub is worth seeking out. Friendly greetings, friendly customers, a great range of real ales and man sized helpings of well cooked food. Check out the blackboards for specials and their menus for traditional pub food and speciality cuisine.
