We love Anopolis area as it is close to the Aradaina Gorge and the beautiful setting of St Katherine with spectacular views of the Libyan Sea. The air in Anopolis is lighter and cooler and the rhythm just slows down enough to enjoy the beautiful Cretan setting. We ate at Platanos (as a group of 12) and we had Antikristo, a specialty you don't find often in Crete as it requires a mastery of cooking in specific ovens. This delicacy was so tasty and so well made that the taste just stays forever in your mouth. We tried all traditional food and salads and other recipes such as zuccini balls, baked Gruyere, Boureki and different types of well made juicy meat. We also tried traditional Cretan cuisine such as Soutzoukakia. Was literally like eating in our mommy's kitchen. High energy food made directly from the best ingredients. The service was exceptional and we really felt at home with the service team ensuring we have what we wanted from the minute we sat down. Similarly to note all Covid precautions are taken into consideration. We felt safe and well treated. We highly recommend this beautiful restaurant and it is a must to enjoy the food there especially if you want to get out of the Sfakian coastside. Last but not least the dessert offered by the team was a pure delight. Ice cream with Cretan Peccan pie (Karidopita). What an end to such an amazing meal! Oh and don't forget the great Raki and great Wine.

Stayed there 3 wonderfull nights to relax and go to nearby beaches with my girlfriend. We ate breakfast and dinner everyday as every dishes were delicious and homemade : generously served with offered raki and dessert, difficult to starve there ! It is a family affair where everyone is attentive and warmful, we could spend hours just looking town's life passing by under platanos shadow. 100% recommended if you are looking for a typical Cretan taste.

We spent 4 nights there with my parents and my boyfriend and we ate there everyday. The food was very delicious! Everything is homemade, local, and the portions are really generous! The desserts are always offered (various everyday and delicious) with raki 😊 Everyone was so nice, helpful and welcoming. A warm thank you for the perfect journey we spent there!

Not only is Platanos a taverna, but it also has rooms to rent. We spent two nights at Platanos to escape the crowds of Hora Sfakion, and it was well worth it! The village is very quiet and local, and the Platanos Taverna is the heartbeat of the main square. The taverna is quaint, the service was outstanding, and the food was AMAZING and well priced.

We stayed in Taverna Platanos for only one night, but the stay was absolutely perfect, starting from the quality of the bed, service, food, nature and people. I’m an avid traveller & visited over 35 countries, I know exactly where I come back again - Taverna Platanas is the place. The food was amazing, Dimitris who works in Taverna was very kind, knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about local area. We have also bought the best honey (they have a shop inside with locally produced products) and I finally tried Sfakion pita - which is a must try. I’ll also attach the photo of the food we ordered - lamb was finely cooked, Taverna Platanos chef’s specialty salad was excellent, aubergine pie is also worth trying.

We drove to Anopoli to taste local authentic recipes of Cretan cuisine. The owners and staff of this shop are well renowned for their hospitality. The ingredients they use are from their own garden, the food is wonderfully cooked and the staff serves with smile and kindness. They also have a little shop with their own herbs, olive oil, honey and marmelades. Everything local and homemade. We traveled 53 km to get there from Myrthios, the route was breathtaking in good views, we took some amazing photos and the whole experience was definitely worth it! A thousand thumbs up to such gem places! Absolute value for money and definitely recommended!

Challenging road to reach it but you are then amply rewarded by the good, indeed excellent, cuisine of the place. Typical Greek dishes, or rather from Crete but you can feel the fact that they are homemade. Location: 9 you eat outside on the small square of Anopolis in the shade of the plane trees that perhaps give the restaurant its name, inside it is clean, new and tidy with a splendid shelf containing typical products. Service: 10 Costantina (the landlady's daughter-in-law) accompanies you through the menu and recommends the dishes of the day, describing them perfectly. Menu: 9 quality raw materials, many things are grown or raised directly by them, traditional Cretan dishes but with a pinch of innovation, we tried several shared dishes and they were all excellent, the dish of the day was baked lamb, really fantastic. I count: 10 for what we ate both in quantity and quality and above all for what we drank we didn't spend anything, in fact 4 of us ordered: 2 main courses, 10 dishes of what they define as starters are actually main courses in all respects, three waters, 1 liter of wine, two medium 0.5 liter beers, 4 coffees, offered by them: watermelon, orange cake and raki, all for €24.25 each. In our opinion one of the best taverns of recent years that we have tried in many years on holiday in Crete

Great food, clean 5/5 the store, honest servings and prices, service! We came based on reviews and indeed everything was perfect. We got meat pie, pumpkin flowers, apache, apple salad (with takini and yogurt), chicken pan, pumpkin chips and salad, all over enough for three people. We came out with drinks at 20€/person, with a sweet portion. Everything was homemade, very delicious, culminating in the meat pie that was the best we have tried. In +++ the meal, chicks and portions to each person ball of fantastic homemade goat ice cream (with pieces of orange and chocolate) with pieces of chocolate pie! Not just suggested, imposed 😊

As a solo traveler coming here was like finding my long lost family. Platanos came highly recommended from friends that had previously visited the restaurant. The food was amazing, home cooked and pretty much table to farm. The room was cozy and clean and gave me some much needed quiet and fresh air. Its proximity to amazing hiking routes and unbelievable beaches was the best part. Will absolutely be back.

A lovely unexpected sorprese. Anapoli is a small village 15km from Sfakia but it seems to be on another planet: calm, genuine with just one square and two taverns. We went for Platones and we had a great food experience. It is a family onwned tavern run by Konstantina and Kostantin. They a couple so nice and extremely prepared to give you any recommendations on Greek plates according to your preferencies and without pushing to sell too much food. Our dinner was superb: eccellent lamb (tsigariasto), boureli, herbs from their Garden (vliza) and stuffed corrette. They also offered for free water melon and raki...The place is nice and the temperature was perfect compared to the oven in Sfakia The cost/quality ratio is very good. We pay just around 75 euro in 4 people. It deserves a visit...

Enchanted by this small tavern located on a quiet square in a peaceful village with a shaded terrace which invites you to relax. We were touched by the generosity of the attentive staff, very smiling and good advice for discovering the places! We had a lot of fun tasting traditional dishes at any time of the day! Thanks again !

Authentic restaurant in the hinterland above Loutro (20 minute drive from Hora Sfakion). The road to get there is full of curves but all asphalted and quite wide: it's worth it to visit this small village too. I really liked the atmosphere and the quality of the food in the restaurant. I got some delicious "lamb chops". The only note was that I was expecting a larger portion, there were only 4 pieces, two of which had very little meat (generally in Crete the portions are very generous, which is why I expected more). However, since they were really delicious, I decided to reorder them a second time but this time by the kg. In fact, the restaurant has two options: order by the kg or take the single portion. I recommend the first option: the second, in my case, wasn't convenient... maybe I was unlucky but I didn't want to point it out and simply reordered the dish (12 euros the first time, 15 the second time). I don't give 5 stars for the portion that was brought to me but I still recommend it because the quality of the meat is high!

We did not stay at the hotel but we ate at the restaurant twice. It was so good we drive up from Sfakia to dine! Everything we had was delicious and fresh. Most items were grown by the owners and the cheese was even made by this family. We also bought some of their local honey that is from their own bees! It does not get any more authentic than this. In addition, this family owned taverna has wonderful service and are all so very friendly. Truly one of the best dining experiences of our trip!
