Having visited at lunch times many times we arrived at 2pm following a 5 mile walk. The place was not terribly busy and drinks service was reasonably quick. There was a poster outside advertising a special 'Golden Years' over 60s menu which had represented good value in the past. Inside the menu was advertised. Drinks service at the bar was... More

We came here for a Sunday lunch. It took over an hour from ordering to be served, and when it eventually turned up 2 of the 4 dishes were wrong. We were told that we had got what we ordered and that if we wanted what we "claimed to have ordered" then it would take an additional half an hour... More

Used another Greene King pub in Ashridge (Bridgewater Arms) the night before and what a contrast the Globe Inn is - difficult to believe they are part of the same organisation. Staff unfriendly and service was poor. A pub without soda water Platter to share was served and no plates appeared until asked for One plate was dirty and sticky... More

Such a shame that it seems the place is being rundown? Just popped in for a drink while walking the dog. Drinks fine but the outside garden area needs a complete overhaul. Rundown, messy, old play equipment for kids, could be so much better. Also there were overflowing rubbish bins and food being served around the tables. Not great. Just... More

Due to understaffing, we had to wait 40 mins. for first course, and about 25 for dessert, which arrived unevenly heated, a mix of freezing and warm. The cottage pie was mushy, wet and rather tasteless, with a layer of soggy potato.

Lovely location but that's where lovely ends. Bar staff were few which meant a long wait just to order drinks, we ordered food bit actually regretted it, it was practically thrown on the table and looked very average and that's being kind! The vegetables served should not have even made it on the plate, the carrots were hard and dry... More

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your visit. Your views are being passed onto the team. This is not the general attitude our team has, they do work very hard and it's not always easy when its a hot day and very busy. More

The Globe is a really nice walk up the canal, or has the novelty of being on the canalside with ample parking for cars. The pub's nice on the inside (for the colder days) with loads more seating outside. The service and food can be a bit touch-and-go sometimes, depending on how busy they are... I get the feeling that... More

Thank you for your lovely review. As you know it does get very busy during the summer and the layout of the bar does mean we can only have a few team members behind it. Thank you for your understanding and no doubt will see you again soon. More

Once you get over the wait due to staff serving who has sneaked closer to them rather than who's next. It's the slightly surly attitude of staff. Then it's the cost of the food (leading you to think wow this is going to be good) £22.00 for two poor Brie sandwiches, a minute portion of cheap skinny fries and a... More

Living locally, we've given The Globe many chances but it's just never quite right. The setting is great, especially when the weather is warm, but sadly they just never seem to anticipate this and therefore don't ever seem to have enough staff. It's not uncommon on nicer days to be stood 2 deep waiting for service. Of course I understand... More

Thank you for your review. The size and layout of the bar does mean that we can only fit a few members of staff behind it, but they do work very hard at trying to keep the queues to a minimum. More

As green King fan, visited this pub due to convenient location & very pretty setting. Sorely disappointed with portion sizes, bland under/over cooked food, incorrect order & subsequently overpriced meals - all came away hungry (unwilling to pay for tiny, expensive desserts) - no return visit for us (party of 11).
