I read a poor review and would like to share our experience. The boat trip to the islet was a nice way to start the evening. We had a five course meal and everything was tasty. The dessert was heavenly in my opinion. With only one chef cooking for 19 guests there was a bit of a wait between the courses, but personally we didn’t mind. There was a beautiful sunset view from the restaurant. The wine pairing could have been more generous and didn’t seem like a good deal. But all in all this evening was memorable to us.

Quite easily the best restaurant I've eaten in a long while and I'm not one that would usually gravitate to a fish restaurant. Everything about this place is special from the way you're greeted when you arrive (by boat, there's no other way); seated; and then served. The kitchen is open so you can see the food prepared and when it arrives, course by course, its presentation and taste is delightful.
Each course comes with well suited wines and both are introduced by knowledgable staff. This place is a long way from anywhere, but if you're passing by - or even make a detour - you'll never regret it.

Full package, cozy boat trip out, tough surroundings and great premises. Very nice service! Regular guest Knut also appeared, standing outside and knocking on the door.
The food was delicious, a little trick for the main dish that could have had a little dessert of salt on it, otherwise top! 125 kr for 0.33 pils is a bit stiff, but one also pays a bit for the whole experience.

I'll start by saying a complete disappointment!!!
The most expensive meal on the menu and the least worth I’ve ever eaten.
We booked a place for a 5-course dinner called the chef's dinner, which takes place in the summer months.
The restaurant is reached by a short cruise which departs at 7:30 PM and ends at midnight. It is not possible to return to the pier before. It means 4 hours to serve 5 dishes, but we didn't hesitate because we thought we were coming for a quality chef's dinner.
The meal was attended by 24 people who were seated at only 6 tables.
From the moment we arrived, except for a poor “Hi” as a welcome at the entrance, nothing more was said to us.
We were seated at a table facing an open kitchen where one cook (not the chef of the place) worked throughout the entire evening.
From the moment we set at the table, no one spoke to us except for a waitress who every time she served the food, explained the dish and disappeared.
The chef of the place focused the entire evening on 2 tables (remember there were only 6 tables) and completely ignored the remaining 4.
And the food that was supposed to be the star of the evening was average and mediocre.
To say it was delicious, is to insult quality and good food.
As tourists who came from afar (abroad) to experience a quality meal, the disappointment was as great as the expectation.
All the other guests at the meal were locals from Norway.
The meal started with an appetizer that included one Scallop and it was not bad, it was the best dish served during the entire evening. The second dish was a type of crab bisque and the only crab in the dish was the name, in the soup there were only pieces of white fish. Moreover I found a fish bone in the soup. I asked to speak to the chef about the findings of the bone and the possibility that I could have been on my way to the hospital. The chef replied that he apologizes and it was lucky that it was a small bone and not a large one.
The third dish was a piece of cod fish swimming in a cream-based sauce. The fish was not fully cooked and on top of that the dish was heavy.
The fourth dish was again a fish dish that was again swimming in a cream sauce. The dish itself was easier to digest than the previous dish, but the ingredients on the plate did not combine into a tasty dish.
For the last course, the dessert, we got a kind of mousse with berries.
The portions of the dishes were not equal in size among all the diners (one got a large portion of fish and one got a small portion of fish) and the highlight was in the dessert where I got half a portion and the mousse was completely liquid instead of creamy.
I will not return to this restaurant again and I cannot recommend it either.
I'm sure that for the amount of money they ask for the meal you can find better alternatives.

The chef is talking all evening on the tables and the guest can,t enjoy the food.
The chef should be in the kitchen with his people to make the perfekt dish.
No inspired food and boring food om your plate.
No any eye for details.

The reviews are true; this place is outstanding.
We were lucky to be there for a wedding reception - the English family! - and the food was delicious for every course. The crab soup served outside, the seafood sharing dishes, the halibut with asparagus and the traditional cream layer dessert. If you can get to Fosnavåg you must book Skotholmen and go out on the boat for the fantastic views and the history of the old building which is very welcoming. Magnus and all the team are excellent at this exceptional restaurant. I am sorry we don’t have this kind of experience in London!

It is unlikely that you will have the same experience that my wife and I did, but this story needs to be shared. We were on our fourth day of a two-week Norway vacation. I had made reservations at Kami Skotholmen several months in advance, and had been looking forward to a romantic dinner on the little island ever since. That day we were to have spent the afternoon hiking on Runde Island, anticipating viewing the nesting puffins, but rain and the threat of thunderstorms made us rethink those plans. Still, we took the drive from Alesund and then worked our way to Fosnavag to catch the boat to the restaurant. By the time we got there it was pouring, the water taxi was tied up, and there wasn't a soul to be found. We felt defeated. It was then that I retrieved a 2-hour old email from Magnus, asking if we were in town yet, and if, perhaps, we were rethinking dinner as well, as all of his other reservations had cancelled. We told him we were all dressed up with nowhere else to go, so without hesitation he came to retrieve us in his little, open, outboard motor boat. Then, in spite of the rain, he asked if we'd like to take a little detour and perhaps recoup some of our lost Runde experience. He then proceeded to take us to the south side of Runde, to a place hikers can't reach, where we saw hundreds of thousands of nesting birds, and hundreds more swimming puffins just yards ahead of our boat. It was an awe-inspiring sight, and an incredible, heartwarming gesture... When we finally disembarked on the island we were soaked, but ready for a warming drink and whatever else the chef had in mind. Turns out it was just the three of us there (plus some hopeful sea gulls), and we lingered by the kitchen with Magnus as he prepared five courses of one of the most memorable meals I've ever had, including whale tartare (a first for us) and a crab soup, the recipe for which should be in a vault with armed guards. It was extraordinary. The entire evening was extraordinary. And Magnus – pilot, guide, host, and culinary artist – is as warm and genuine a person as he is a talented chef... If you're lucky enough to find yourself in that part of Norway, GO. And if you're even luckier, maybe it will be raining!

We enjoyed the most beautiful scenery at a the gourmet restaurant on a tiny islet. The small boat the brought us from Fosnavåg to the islet took 10 minutes. The chef met us at the boat and we came into a beautiful renovated house. We got an outstanding food experience with local food and an excellent choice of wines while the sun was setting into the North Sea. The atmosphere was extraordinary. I was so proud to show my friends this hidden pearl so close to Fosnavåg where I was raised. I am still overwhelmed by the experience!

This restaurant is on a remote island, accessible by boat. There is no menu, you decide when you book how many courses you want (or if you have any food allergies etc) and when you get there, depending on what's seasonal, that's what you get. We were served fish dishes, and boy, were we satisfied! Starter was a classic fish soup, slightly tart with a creamy finish. Our exquisite mains was a cusk ("brosma"in Norwegian) fish dish with layers of complex flavours that melded into a perfectly executed dish. The dessert was equally memorable with the brownie cheesecake paired with a passion fruit jelly - match made in heaven. I highly recommend this place, and will definitely be coming back again.

Super location close to nature at a private island. Rustic tasteful locations with history in the walls. Very nice to see the food beeing prepared in the open kitchen with the open sea behind them.
We had a 5 course meal which were superb. Crabcake, lobatersoup. Hotsmoled whale and Hake. Dessert was o little taste of many things. The food was great. The service was good and professional. The fish is fresh and local catch. I'll be back many times.

Had a great stay at Skotholmen, Charming place and a wonderful concept. The food was very good and it was great to take part and following the cooking. Hope you get many good years to come and that you develop the concept further, everything is ready for it.

This restaurant is on a small island, so you have to get here by boat.
It`s located by the ocean, and the view is stunning. This makes the experience so special.
They serve mostly fish food at top level. The fish was fresh caught by local fishermen.
We were served cod, and the food was superb.
Prices are reasonable , and great service.
There is no wall between the restaurant and kitchen, and by the kitchen there is big windows towards the ocean, wich makes a good work invorement for the chefs. They seemed happy. Happy and qualified chefs and waiters along with superb seafood in fantastic invorements makes this restaurant excellent.
