Our fourth visit to this restaurant. Consistently high standard of food and service. This time: Fois Gras two ways, then Crayfish in a Lobster Bisque, Ostrich Steak and a delicious Charlotte Russe style dessert. Just delicious.

The restaurant has never been known for great food, but during our last visit acceptable food turned into terrible food. From a party of ten, four returned the food and two were too polite to do so. No apology and or replacement was offered by...the management, to the contrary the party was charged the full menu price, although eight out of ten did not have a dessert. The service was greatly understaffed, as a result very hectic with no attention to the tables.More

I ate at this restaurant with friends on Friday. The setting is lovely, right by the river, and the interior has been designed with a lovely warm feel with natural stone and beams. We started with drinks (including the largest gin & tonic I've ever...had!) and all 6 of us decided on the EUR 29 menu. There was a great choice of dishes, something to suit everyone, and each course was amazing. The cheese trolley had some favourites on it and also some varieties we'd not heard of before. I finished the meal with apple tart with calvados ice cream and it was wonderful. We would certainly go back if we were in the area again.More

Been here for a business evening with 12 people. Not a big restaurant, one serving all tables, super friendly and perfect service! Menu card is not that big but will suite everybody. Very nice food! Good wine. Restaurant is an old farm and gives a...cosy atmosphere!More

Our party of 5 enjoyed an excellent evening meal. Excellent food and service. As previously noted service wasn't exactly speedy but in the nature of a balmy summer's evening that didn't detract from our experience. They're closed Sunday evening and Monday. Very busy when we...were there - might be worth booking in high season. 03 86 87 18 26. And Villeneuve sur Yonne is a stunning place to enjoy a wander.More

Fabulous food, wonderful romantic setting looking out over the river, lovely waitress. Really a perfect evening. The lock keeper told js this was the best place and he was absolutely right. we had the salmon for starters and the lamb chops. And then we got...cheese AND pudding. We felt very spoiled. A perfect night out after a long day of boating along the heavenly Yonne. Thank you so much!More

Without doubt this is the best restaurant in town. Sadly there's little choice and while Villeneuve sur Yonne has certainly seen much better days La Lucarne aux Chouettes is a highlight. Service is polite, friendly and helpful and compliments a pleasant menu with a range...of dishes to suit most tastes and budgets including the "menu du jour " of two courses for 16.50. An amuse bouche came with our aperatifs. Mackeral bruchetta to start and followed up with the duck leg with honey for mains which was not as sweet as you might think and perfectly delicious. There's an extensive cheese trolly for a modest additional charge but has a formidable selection. The wine list is reasonable in choices and price. A perfect way for a lazy lunch. The restaurant was busy and near full for a Tuesday which was a good sign. The rustic beams, open fireplace with blazing log fire and a huge wood burning ceramic tiled heater ensured the place was lovely and warm as well as full of character. Highly recommended.More

We had lunch here the last week of June 2012. We are experienced travelers to France. I could not believe how poor the service was. The food when it finally arrived was very average at best and expensive for what we had. We skipped dessert...because it took so long for the main courses. We would not go back.More

Had a really lovely dinner here. Menu appears to change weekly, with half a dozen choices for each course. After eating at several "fine dining" restaurants during our holiday, we loved the food here - no fancy smears or blobs, just simply presented and very...well cooked food at a very reasonable price. The service and decor make this a very attractive place to eat.More
