Vegetarian set lunch, full of local delicacies and enjoyed very much. Try the "Jack fruit" cutlets and the fresh "wood-apple" juice. Efficiency in the payment counter can be improved - talk a bit loud and you will get the required attention.

The food was great and very delicious. The beans could have been cooked a bit more. But teh Egg plant, Bitter gourd and fish dished were tasty. Teh yellow rice also wasn't very oily.

You can find an array of typical Sri Lankan village food here at very reasonable prices. Hela Bojun is a concept introduced by the Department of Agriculture, Peradeniya. It is a remarkable concept. It provides Sri Lankan village type freshly cooked food prepared by self-employed...women, giving these women an opportunity to make a living. The concept is similar to a food court in a Mall, except it is a sort of single cuisine. Each cook will prepare their own speciality food. It is a cash only operation. Behind this 'food market' you will find a plant nursery where you could buy typical Sri Lankan vegetable, fruit, spices and flower plants.More

Hela Bojun is specious and open kitchen eatery at many places in Srikanka. This venture promotes local produce and empowering women. It is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture. You will find great taste of many vegetarian varieties like dosa, vada and other snacks. Price...is very reasonable. Several other interesting creations are their cowpea wadais, manioc croquettes, corn pittu, kos kottu, and olu rice, all priced between Rs. 20 and Rs. 40. In addition to this, they also make sweetmeats, drinks, and soups. Sitting area is open. You will find paid parking and paid toilets.More

This was one of many Hela bojun stands we stopped at in our travels. Without exception we walked away loaded up with tasty treats for very little. Without exception the ladies who run these stalls were gracious and eager to share their creations with tourists....The Peradeniya outlet was among my favorites. We had the most delicious pani kavum and the lovely lady let me take some video of how she made these so I could try to make them when I get home. Do yourself a favour, deal with the crowd and stop for one of the best meals you will have in Sri LankaMore

This is a restaurant chain across the country run by the Ministry of Agriculture and owned by the government. They serve all traditional food and fresh fruit juices. Prices are very cheap and food is very clean and healthy. You need to pay and order....There are around 8 - 10 individual ladies selling their food and you need to pay separately at each counter. All outlets have a car park and toilets. This is one of my favorite stop overs when I travel outstation from Colombo.More
