We went there as a small group to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We already knew the place but it did not fail o cê again to impress.
Years go by, the place changes, new faces working at the tables, but the quality of the food...remains excellent. We had few ponchas, espetadas and bacalhau and left with a smile. That was partially also down to the young waiter who assisted us called Hugo. Keep that smile at work young man.
Keen to experience as many authentic meals as possible during our visit to Madeira we asked tour guides, taxi drivers, shop staff etc for their restaurant recommendations. All of them had Santo António at the top of their list! The famous 'espetada' hanging kebabs are...the specialty here and did not disappoint. An amazing selection of local and Portuguese wines! And it just so happened to turn out to be the cheapest meal of our holiday. Don't miss out on what the locals seem to rave about!More
We went for dinner on a Friday. The restaurant don't accept reservations and the waiting line was big. We waited 45 minutes for a table.
After sitting the service was really quick and professional.
We ate bolo do caco and espetada madeirense with fries and...salad.
The meat was on point!More
Fantastic food, I know menu is limited but what else do you actually need. Food on skewers hung from your table - all delicious, we had with chips, polenta chips which were amazing and really tasty salad. Restaurant was full. You had to wear a...mask until you were seated at table but thats why madeira has had such few covid cases and no deaths. Fab staff, fab food, fab restaurant. Will definately return when we go back to Madeira.More
We were taken here by a local friend and were so pleased to have found it. The restaurant specialises in Espetada, beef on a skewer, although there is also chicken skewer. 5 of us shared 3 beef skewers along with chips, fried maize and salad...and what a memorable meal it was, tender and tasty beef fillet which melted in the mouth. The place was mainly filled with locals which is always a good sign. Staff are friendly and helpful and service is excellent. It's not easy to find but well worth seeking out.More
Spent the month of December on the island, went to this restaurant four times, disappointed on two occasions, the meat tender, but tasteless, possibly frozen meat, did not enjoy at all. Recommend o Lagar restaurant, just down the street, first class.
Found this restaurant searching on Trip Advisor was impressed with the good reviews and felt we had to give it a go.
Glad we did, excellent food at a very reasonable price, staff all very friendly and made us feel welcome
