We were recommended by friends with an apartment in Norefjell to visit this restaurant. It's a beautiful wood chalet style, with views over the valley. At lunch they have a soup buffet - with 3 "all you can eat" soups with fresh home-made bread. Went back several times for the delicious elk soup. Inevitably, not inexpensive but felt filling and warmly welcomed. Recommended.

Not only the best mountain lodge and restaurant in Norefjell and Norway, but in the world. The staff is welcoming and amazing at what they do, especially in the with brekkie and dinner. I have never felt so safe with my food allergies, and will be coming back again and again for the next 50 years (even tho the booking process was a bit slow).

This week The Urbanaut took 3 days in a Spa with family. The Spa hotel was terrible (see review of Norrefjell Hotel and Spa) and the hotel food was amongst the worst we have experienced, but the upside was after the first night I was busily trying to find somewhere else to eat.
We were up a mountain so there were not many options but this place seemed to have decent reviews so we booked a table and headed over on Tuesday evening.
WOW! The food was just knockout! It's a set menu than changes daily and we had, Halibut to start, Cheese soup with homemade Moose salami for the 2nd course, Moose with vegetables for the main, and Chocolate Cake with Jerusalem Artichoke ice cream for desert. It sounds simple - but it wasn't.
The food we enjoyed was easily worthy of a Michelin star - really.

Me and my partner had decided to travel to NorefjellHytta and celebrate New Year's Eve there. The cabin was located in idyllic surroundings, and really gave the "high mountain feeling". The room was romantic and pleasant - despite the literally low ceiling.
We had booked a table for 19 and was told in advance that a 5-course menu with local produce would be served. The food and service itself was absolutely impeccable, but the problem arose when we had to wait over an hour for the first course. We were then served three small pieces of flying fish, as well as some side dishes. Then it took another 40 minutes before the next course was served. The main course itself was not served until closer to 9.30pm and consisted of a couple of pieces of roast venison, plus some mashed sweet potatoes on the side. So - much less than what most people expect from a main course. In total we sat for three hours and still felt hungry. It all ended with us going on a joker and buying ourselves food before dessert and the cheese plate were to be served.
All in all - a good experience with good food, but the portions should have been bigger. Especially considering the price level. It is also unfortunate to make guests wait for over an hour before being served food. Maybe this was special for this evening. It almost seemed as if one should eat dinner beforehand.

We stayed at the Norefjellhytta 2 nights and had 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts there. We chose the place because of the reviews on the meals, and the great view. We were not dissapointed! The local and varied meats were seasoned and cooked superbly. Combined with vegetables and sauces that went great with the meal. The second night we went with the wine package with a 4 course meal. Amazing! The chef came to our table to explain the meal and the waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We're definitely going back!

We were there for both lunch and dinner, and the atmosphere is so cozy and great. The service is great and they were very accommodating with our changes of number of people. They even picked us up and drove us home after dinner. Definitely worth a visit - or many!

Spent two days recently in this amazing place. View is spectacular as is the room and food. The staff made us very welcome and when we arrived the room wasn't ready but we sat in the sunshine with drinks on the house. The room is very well appointed with lovely bed and private sauna but its very very dark :-). (Maybe some stronger lightbulbs hahahah). The highlight of the weekend was the food. Janis (the chef) did a fantastic job creating two seven course menus (they say they're five but there was a couple of surprises in there). The food was varied, local and exciting each course complimenting the last. Some strong flavours but very enjoyable. This man is an artist. Breakfast too was amazing. Not the usual tired buffet but presented individually with great selection and choice.
My suggestions are a better Ginger beer (maybe Tiptree or Fentimans) and a little something sweet with coffee after the meal. However I'm nitpicking.
If you stay anywhere in this area it has to be here. Can't praise them enough.

Exciting and absolutely delicious food with excelently matched wines at an affordable price.
The venue is an authentic typical old school Norwegian ski lodge but elegantly furnished as a comfortable and classy dining place.
The service is great and friendly. They will accommodate special dietary needs in a good way. I would love to come back.

We had an absolutely fantastic overnight stay with dinner at Norefjellhytta. The room we had was absolutely fantastic and contained all the comforts you could wish for.
We ate a five-course dinner in the beautiful, intimate restaurant at the cottage. The chef presented all the dishes and serves food of a very high international standard, all based on local ingredients.
In addition to the magical setting Norefjellhytta offers, it is the wonderfully pleasant and helpful staff that make this a stay you will never forget.
Here you will be treated with a friendliness and professionalism that even the best hotels in the world will struggle to match.
Treat yourself to an overnight stay and dinner here, you will never forget it.

A nice place, nice atmosphere and location. We tried a lunch with tapas for starters. Can't exactly be called a dish, very small and unclear what it was we were served. Used to tapas from Spain, so this was an ever so slight let down. Chose a Pasta Portofino as a main course and it was very good. Bread was served, dry, cold and hard. We also tried the Oladalen - Bolognese of moose. The meat was dripping with oil and no flavor except oil. No consistency or chewing resistance. None of the dishes had any vegetables apart from a bundle of kale.
Have visited the place before and call this a slight let down.

We have visited this restaurant regularly over the years. Today dinner deserves a post: The four course meal with wine pairing was no less than EXCELLENT. All courses well composed and very tasty. To our experience the kitchen has really leveled up since our last visits.
Make sure to book a table in advance, as they have limited seats. - we will be back for sure!

One of our truly memorable meals.
Fabulous. The pairing and quality of ingredients was stunning and mostly local; and unusual, interesting wines.
A creative, invested young chef.
All together a pure delight.

Cozy rooms with slightly low ceilings, but we quickly got used to this. Used the restaurant two nights in a row and got two different 5 course menus. Lovely local food and good wines. Very pleased.
