First of all I believe it's safe to say that we opted to order from Mekren's Bakery because Maxokk's Bakery (Another and the better bakery in the area) was already fully booked with orders.
We found their menus online and after that we decided what...to get we phoned them to place our order. We were told that the order has been noted and can collect the pizzas in 30 minutes. So far, so good.
We didn't want to rush them and even though we were there at the time they advised we waited outside for 5-10 more minutes. When we reached the "counter" we told them about our order but to our surprise we were told that our pizzas were not done and after waiting for 40 minutes in the September Sun we were told to wait for another 15-20 minutes!
We obviously did not accept and left. Their customer service is nowhere close to decent. The staff are not helpful and the place looks not neat and clean. Also in the midst of a pandemic, their staff are not wearing any masks, face shields or gloves.
Remember, Maxokk's Bakery is 5 minutes away from this place and their pizzas are to die for!More
We ordered one pizza and one ftira for tam away. But we got two pizzas instead. When we complained to a nice male, he told it to a lady who was in charge of the oven and she told us that they are out of...ftira. Obviously a lie. They didn’t even offer to correct the mistake, but that was no issue for us, because we wanted to leave anyways since there was an older bald guy (maybe the owner) shouting at the other workers the whole 15min we were waiting outside. Very unprofessional. Pizza was quite good and prices are ok.More
Such a good oven cooked homemade dish made with heart! Great value for money! Thank you Nancy it was such a blessing being served lunch at your Mekren bakery! Can't wait to revisit Gozo to try something else from you! This dish tasted like heaven!...Cheers!More
Pizza is pizza! Or is it? In Malta we have our pizza better called Ftira and one can find it at Mekren Bakery. One can also find another Maltese pizza which is an unfolded pizza with cheese or ricotta inside. But I am here to...write a review! At Mekren one usually only have to wait few minutes to get the pizza of his choice which is a big variety. There are also other items like qassatat which I love.... Thank you Mekren staff for your dedication and the love you put in your work.More
On our recent visit to beautiful Gozo we had some excellent ftiras from Mekren Bakery. They are soooo good! No wonder there are always queues. Also, the fact that you can see the entire operation from preparation to cooking unfold right before your eyes is...great. A real family operation, there are multiple generations working in the bakery which is great - and you see the family dynamics in play, too, which adds authenticity. Unbelievable value also!More
The traditional Gozitan ftira (sort of a pizza) is mouth watering and delicious. Mostly the anchovies one and also the cheesy one are very good. But they have other items which are also great, like the rice and pumpkin pies and the traditional qassatat. It...is a take away place, so the best thing is to purchase the items and go to Ramla l-hamra bay which is a kilometre away and enjoy your meal.More
Amazing bakery, basically you feel as if you're in the back room where the work is done, but you're not! It's a real local place and things on racks have come straight from the oven. You can ask the ladies any questions and they speak...good English and are keen to help. Tasty local pies, cakes and other delicacies none of which I recognised.More
