I have eaten twice at DOC in the last 2 weeks, both times the food was perfect. Some of the dishes not to everyones taste, raw egg and Portuguese sausage (very good if you like runny eggs). However, they are always willing to substitute dishes from their set menus if you do not like the sound of anything. The wine... More

We arrived at ~230pm so were afraid we wouldn't be able to have lunch. The staff were very welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable and very observant (eg shifting the umbrella so we remained in the shade as the sun moved). The setting was perfect...on a pontoon at the edge of the Douro River, looking across to the terraced vineyards, on a warm... More

DOC came as the most recommended and talked about restaurant in the Douro Valley. As we didn't want to miss the experience we booked several weeks in advance. While we drove past the restaurant several times during daytime without noticing it, at night, benefiting from an outside table along the river, we wondered how we could have missed it. The... More

Calling it a destination restaurant misses the point. It's waterfront credentials , deep in the valley is worlds away from care. The contemporary fare is a clever mix of old and startlingly beautiful meld of flavours. Lots of famous and excellent wines by the glass. Salute.

I read about chef Rui Paula and we went to DOC with very high expectations. And it was great. The 6 course lunch menu by the river, with very special wines was perfect. It is very expensive, but had a great time.

What an amazing dinner by the Douro river. We enjoyed the tasting menu, my non-meat-eater fussiness was no problem at all with options beautifully adapted. Every course was a feast for eyes and taste buds alike. My highlight was the melt-in-mouth grilled octopus with garlic oil, among the best dishes I have ever tasted. Service was polished, the formidable Maître... More

We came here with high expectations, and had them beat. Brilliant scenery right next to the River. Staff are very competent, and meal + wine delicious and fairly priced. It was our most expensive evening out, but it was well worth it. A Word of advice would be to ask for a table outside for lunch, but ask for indoor,... More

Great, top quality food in a wonderful setting right on the Douro river. We visited for lunch and had a thoroughly top notch meal. Had to go out of our way a little to get there, but the drive itself down the valley was incredible, so very glad to have done so.

The food here was great - expensive but not crazy for the quality. But the view from an outside table on the water is spectacular, and certainly makes it worth a trip. They have two tasting menus. The Douro one was pretty good.

Delicious lunch right on the river. Rare to find a great restaurant and a great setting. A perfect way to spend an afternoon in the Duoro Valley. Delicious seafood. Not to be missed!

Description
Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins.

It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river.

Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment.

Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "
