Taverna Karavostasi

Ratings and reviews

Certificate of Excellence2015 - 2019 Winner

Location and contact

We welcome you to Bali and to "KARAVOSTASI" Beach. The small bay directly to the side of you, has the same name, was used in Minoan times as a neosoikos which translates to English as boat repair. One part of this was covered and served as an area of restoration and repair of ships. The world "karavostasi"translates directly as"ship yard". The world "karavostasi" has not changed over the centuries and is still used today by the local people. Over time, almost all of the evidence of this activity has been lost and destroyed due the elements and there are very few abvious signs remaining. We try preserve the history and natural environment of our place by respecting the natural beauty of this Bay.

Portions were huge and well cooked. The free raki and fruit was very welcome! The place was packed which was a good sign. Getting there was a bit of an adventure in the dark!

It's tucked all the way in the corner of Bali and the location is amazing. The service is good and the price is reasonable but the food was just okay. The portion is really big too. I have to say this place is overrated.

Hard to be found, hidden between trees and rocks, but a treasure indeed. Be prepared to walk a long distance though, because the only safe (i.e. to not fall off the cliff or have your car scratched by other cars passing through narrow roads) place...More

Perfect foof, great hospitality , exotic beach, calm green waters, just 50 km from Heraklion. A bit crowded and full of umbrellas yet the beauty of the place is stunning. The food is superb in taverna Karavostasi and Yannis treats everybody like VIP!
