Arrogant and crass head waiter overshadows excellent food

The Porto Rosso experience was a mixed bag. Ultimately, food quality won. Monkfish and speck grilled medallions were out of this world, black risotto was amazing, grilled calamari were ok but a bit tough. The desert, vanila ice cream and cherry sauce crepes were to die for! If the food quality was the only measure, this place would be a "come back as often as you can" no-brainer. ************** However, the rude, arrogant and downright disrespectful attitude of their lead waiter was so appalling and crass that, in the end, I will NEVER come back here again nor do I recommend anyone pay them a visit, either! ************** Our reservation call a day earlier was met with "oh, by a car" comment when we were asked how will we be arriving. Disappointed much? Then, our >clearly communicated< needed number of seats was taken down wrong what lead to a rude, lippy and disrespectful treatment upon our arrival. We were told "ok, we'll seat you all (they should already have known this) but you have to leave in (what amounted to) an hour. Only after lengthy and quite an unpleasant bargaining session, we were (what seemed as reluctantly as it only could be) allowed to sit out of the way of main area. Rude, rude, RUDE! Ultimately, all those precious seats we were so rudely told are "reserved days ahead" remained mostly empty during our stay. Besides excellent food, the only human interaction well worth mentioning was an amazing, young waiter who served us, Nikša S. I wish this young man all success in his career, he truly deserves it! Again, in the end, because of the reservation taking and APPALLING upon-arrival treatment, I do NOT recommend this restaurant!

I was there just once but i had very mixed feelings. It is supposed to be the best restaurant in Lastovo and i think in some ways it is but...Firstly the food was very nice i got grilled octopus and it was very good. On the other hand the waiter there was very rude. I felt like i was disturbing the waiter. He did not want to give me the table that i had chosen and he gave me table in the other side of the restaurant where the sun was. All in all i would recommend this restaurant if you are a patient person and you care just about the food and not about the service which is provided to you.

Been there about 10 times. Always great. Today we’ve been disappointed. Very slow service and average food. Home made pasta was overcooked, fried calamari were not good at all. Starters were very good. Hope it was a bad day.

Overpriced, unpleasant atmosphere

We have visited this konoba in August, 2020. The staff was kind of weird, making atmosphere unpleasant. Food is way overpriced. I got a soup in a small cup. While we were in Lastovo we were mostly eating in konoba Pece (in Ubli) which has way better prices and portions compared to Porto Roso restaurant - for the same meal! A few couples even left this restaurant without ordering anything after seeing the prices on the menu. Taste of the food was good, so it was not a complete waste of our money.

The grilled fish was inedible

There were 8 of us at Porto Rosso! The welcome was very friendly and the place under the trees was very nice. Some of the crew had a starter, which was very expensive (30€ cold fish variation for 2 people) but apparently very good. The main courses arrived after a wait of over 2 hours, even before the starter dishes had been cleared away. The fish skewer was good, the meat dishes were OK, the octopus was burnt. Finally, the 3 portions of grilled "fish" arrived, neatly arranged on a large plate with 3 lemon wedges. One portion consisted of half a fish head, albeit a very decorative one, and a small piece of scraps that had been forgotten on the grill and had lots of bones. We complained during the meal, the waiter said he wasn't the chef and that Italians would eat the fish head like that. He apologized several times and brought us a schnapps and offered us dessert on the house. In retrospect, we were annoyed that we had paid 90€ for the fish garbage!

Dear guest, I was the manager that was present at the time and I remember you quite well. 1. How can you say something is expensive if you have a menu in front of you, and you choose what to order? Especially if you did not order it instead your friends that even said they enjoyed it? (fish appetizer 15E per person) 2. Never this whole season I have been working here heard someone once complain about grilled fish that had "only bones" and "head". I can see from your comments that you have no clue about fish and have never seen a real fish in your life. We don't serve fish file we serve whole fish that is freshly caught by our local fisherman that is displayed in our showcase. The same showcase that you saw and choose the fish you would like to eat personally: the size of the fish and type of the fish. So hearing you complain the same night about fish you choose how it has "head" and "bones" is absurd and funny. You brought me to the table and pointed your finger on the plate that only had fish bones and head remaining after which you said its overcooked? After you ate everything? That is a nice way to complain... I didn't want to argue in the middle of the dinner with you hoping to solve it in a more relaxing manner, but I was wrong. 3. After free drinks you got, and free deserts for 8 people that you didn't deserve, you still give us 1 star review. That just talks about you in volumes. If something was horribly wrong, waiter was extra rude or the food you ate was disgusting I would understand but after working hard every season trying to build a good reputation just for someone like you to complain about "bones" in FISH that YOU chose is funny ignoring the fact that you lied about waiting 2 hours that is simply not true. In conclusion, I would thank you for your visit and advise you to visit some fish and chips "restaurant" next time until we resolve our "problem" with the head and bones in our fish.

Beautiful relaxing restaurant

Had a short visit to Lastovo and had to pay this beautiful restaurant a visit. You'll find an amazing restaurant serving authentic local food with fresh ingredients mixed to perfection. Octopus salad is by far the best one I've had anywhere. Fresh fish and live lobsters come on a daily basis so if you're looking for some of the best food anywhere make sure to visit this restaurant. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and make your dining experience an exceptional one. Definitely No. 1 spot in whole Lastovo island.

Admittedly, it's a beautiful location with its own jetty for boats, which is also very well organized. Behind it, however, there's not much else apart from the restaurant. Even the nearest cigarette machine is a few kilometers away, and that's no joke. That also shows the level of service in the shop. The waiters are professionally friendly, but want to get things done quickly. Unfortunately, that doesn't work because at peak times you end up waiting too long for the food - which is often too cold. Since you eat outside (in the evening) under somewhat intrusive trees, even the best steak gets colder. The bill for a table of 10 people is only paid together - cash or by card. The bill then comes accordingly emphatically. Everything could be done with more friendliness - I just think the restaurant is overwhelmed by its own success. My steak was really good and medium on point, but those are basics for a chef. There's nothing more good or bad to say. The food is good, but not spectacular. And the prices are much too high overall. You can do it once, but I wouldn't sail there especially.

We were there on Sunday for probably our fifth time already and if you can describe the food, staff and atmosphere with one word it would be: excellent. For the main course try something “ispod peke” you will not regret it. We had fish (kovač and škarpena) with potatoes and vegetables and it was sublime. Overall a very good experience and we will definitely be back.

Not doing often comment but this is one of the first time had such bad experience. I took tuna for appetizer and received a can of tuna with bad seasoning. My son to the fantasy sea food he did not eat it either...

A special place to eat and moor up

We mooted at the restaurant’s jetty/marina while sailing round the islands, and the whole experience was great. Good food, attentive staff, clean facilities etc. A little expensive but most island restaurants are in Croatia and this is one of the best

Uninspired, overpriced, worth forgetting place

After visiting most of the good restaurants on Lastovo, we decided to see Porto Rosso as supposedly one of the best. It was such a mediocre experience that we finished the tasteless, uninspired food as fast as possible and left. Also, for what it offers, the costs are unjustified, overpriced. Avoid it and visit any other restaurant on the island.

I'm not thrilled with the food or the waiter that have served us. The food is ok but nothing special. Each side dish is paid extra. So you get the steak without any side dish. It's not a problem to pay another 30-40 kn but I don't think it's attractive. For this mony you can eat much better on the island. The restaurant is nicely decorated and in an attractive location.

Good food but poor service, our food was cold and it took a really long time to get it. One person in our company had to send their food back because it was ice cold. It's a real same, considering how tasty the food was.

Although I’ve was lucky to order tasty food, my friends got some not cooked stuff. It can happen, but than at least you offer a glass of wine to guest as an apology. Nicely situated place, but overpriced for offered quality. Didn’t enjoy my experience very much…

the restaurant is to be recommended. It is located in a beautiful bay, suitable for boaters, wonderful ambience. We sat down for lunch several times. The staff is friendly. The food is excellent, I recommend everything from risotto on white, grilled octopus, pancakes with ice cream... to local white wine. The prices correspond to the received investment.
