Poor service for local food.

Rather unfriendly restaurant serving local specialities. The service was slow. The servings were very large, and generally good.

Passing by on our trip back home to Belgium. Went to eat upstairs, it was rather bussy at this time with only two waiters walking around. Rather cosy, typical interior for the region. We waited for about 20 minutes before someone spoke to us. We tried to make eye contact with the (2) waiters untill this time, but without any... More

A nicely located restaurant by a pretty canal lock in the centre of town. Food typically local (Flammkuchen seemed very popular). We had steak in shallot sauce and chips/fries and weinerschnitzel with chips. Then we had rum baba and raspberry sorbet (fantastic flavour) - both with schnapps/rum. On the whole a pretty good restaurant. Only parts of menu were with... More

This restaurant has an attractive setting immediately adjacent to the canal lock and is thus one of those places, especially in tourist areas, that are more or less guaranteed to busy regardless of the food they are serving. We found them full even on a Sunday evening and had to book in order to return 45 minutes later. The menu... More

What a shame! We arrived at La Marne, having booked and were seated immediately, given menus and asked if we'd like drinks. Our wine arrived, followed very soon by our food. Both our main courses were excellent, truly delicious. More and more people arrived and stood about waiting for tables to become vacant. The three table staff were run off... More

The waitter was very mean, didn't propose any drinks or water. I wonder if what a eate was home made, because it had the same taste you can have eatting a supermarket box reddy to heat.

Sometimes the Gallic off-hand attitude offends, but at other times it can be amusing, as it was in this canalside restaurant. The tables with a view were empty, but we still weren't allowed to sit at them, and the waiting staff would have rather been somewhere else, but buoyed up by the delicious food and wine we didn't let this... The meal was simple and filling although nothing really special. The staff were of the surly slightly abrasive French variety who might be better suited to a life in the nearby Einville salt mines, but the food was hot, plentiful and quite tasty.

Tonight we went out with some friends in Saverne (2 mothers and 3 children aged 10 and 14) and were rudely turned away from this place at 10.05 p.m. when we wanted to join all their other guests that were still eating, drinking and being served on the terrasse. We asked if we could sit on the terrasse and have... More
