This restaurant is in a beautiful setting with outside seating and friendly service.
The main dish served is polenta in different ways but trout was also available when we went as well as soup and salads.
We were so impressed by our visit to Efra. Cosy and traditional and oozing rustic charm, the staff were young, cool, conscious and enthusiastic. Their love for both the venue and the food was so evident! It always makes for an enjoyable experience.
The food...is properly local. Only a small menu but each dish made in the regional style and with a lot of care and attention. We ate the marinated river trout caught just down the road and the polenta with porcini mushrooms which were also in season and foraged locally. It was so delicious and the portions were extremely generous! They recommended some divine local wine to go with it and we finished off with a mouth-watering homemade panacotta.
We wish the guys all the luck in the world! Our waitress Jennifer was a delight and we were so happy to dine in this gorgeous little paradise located in one of the most adorable villages in The Valley. Another special evening on our already unforgettable honeymoon...More
Small distance from the nice village of Sonogno, amidst nature, forest, mountain peaks and the small river. Grotto Efra has been there for decades, the owners offer specialties of the most beautiful Val Verzasca. Polenta e brasato, Polenta e Stracchin (gorgonzala, warm or cold) and...the salami and cheese of the village. You feel immersed in the local world where things are simple, natural and tasty. The place is friendly, it has a nice fireplace when it is cold, and you can enjoy outside seating (beautiful) when warmer. It is definitely one of the iconic amd must see places to spend happy hours in Ticino. Will always come back with fond memories.More
This is a place to have such a relaxing meal ,I mean it .I was really surprised with the service here , on a good way of course ,really, they pay attention to such small details' never saw plates passing in front any of the...people,,very pleasant service with the smile and friendly .I do recommend. But not to forget the Brasato de Manzo with PolentaMore
We went to this restaurant based on a recommendation, so we drove the whole valley up to Sonogno. Honestly, we were a bit disappointed about the small choice of courses. But the quality was excellent. I tried the "torta di pane" (bread cake) an absolute...must! I was tempted to buy a whole cake and bring it home.More
i love luca and his young and enthusiastic team. Local, fresh food, local beer and the best ice-cream i ever ate in my life! Made from roasted corn flour! Check this place in the wonderful verzasca valley !
We stopped here for lunch by chance without prior reading of any reviews. It's a bit outside the main village but worth the walk up the valley(you can drive there too). Service was very friendly, everyone speaks English. Portion sizes are generous so be ready....The food is very tasty and mostly local. Good choice of meals and drinks. Interior is very good and modern. There's a big seating area outside with great views of mountains and near by water fall. A bit pricey but that's everywhere in Switzerland. Would come again if we can.More
Very friendly and joyful reception. Run by a young couple and their friends. Very peaceful setting under shady trees near a waterfall. The costine, slow grilled (local speciality), are absolutely the best. A Pocolino or two and a very good Grappa to round everything off...and you feel in in another world.More
Nice location (Verzasca Valley), menu with typical local foods, service there is margin to improve. The price definitely need to be reduced! For a family is to expencive. You can join the Grotto by car, bus or bike, not far from Locarno.
At the end of the road in Sonogno, it's worth walking out of town up the valley and following the signs to Grotto Efra. Keep going. A little further. There it is!
In the summer, outdoor tables have a view over a nearby waterfall, the...food is nice and reasonably priced (well, by Swiss standards) and the service friendly. If you're visiting Lavertezzo to see the river and the famous bridge, continue up the road to Sonogno to eat at Grotto Efra. Afterwards you can hike up the valley.More
