I'm an American expat and my partner is English - got together with her family here for a nice dinner and chat. The food was good and we had a great time talking with the honeymooning couple at the table next door. Until - After I had paid the bill for about 70 quid for 4 people, left a tip... More

It's rare to find a really tasty steak well -cooked, but the meal was so delicious on our first visit we returned the following evening! The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the pub is generally a gem.

Returning home from a great long weekend in delightful Derbyshire we enquired on line if the pub would take a booking only to be told that the Barley Mow did not open on Mondays. However the landlady decided to make an exception as the event was to celebrate a sixty ninth birthday. Even though we arrived more than an hour... More

Excellent food and great atmosphere in this charming village pub. We stayed in a local B&B and booked our first night's meal here - we weren't disappointed

Stayed in Bonsall for a couple of days and went here on a whim. I'm so glad we did! It's tiny but what it lacks in room it more than makes up for with the warm welcome you get from owners and customers alike. This is a proper country pub and the type of pub all others should aspire to.... More

We were staying down the hill for a week's holiday and visited the Barley Mow each night for our evening meal. We were met with a warm welcome from the hosts each evening, indeed they remembered us. The food is excellent with a varied menu and specials. I am a vegetarian and must say the curry is superb. we were... More

The dog was allowed inside. Very relaxed atmosphere and wonderful food, reasonably priced! My veggie curry was one of the best I've ever had, my husband's veggie burger was so much better than the usual effort! We would definitely go again if in the area, but would advise booking a table, it gets very busy! Always a good sign!

We were looking for a decent place to eat for our last night in the Peaks. We initially tried to book the Barley Mow and I ended up leaving a message on the ansaphone. Past experiences made me wary of getting a response...clearly I should be less cynical..I had a return call as I was was cycling up a 20%... More

Met here for a family celebration. A truly traditional local hostelry. Not big so best to book. Friendly staff. Roast dinner was a mountaineering course! Scrumptious. Bakewell Tart had to be tried (when in Rome!). Wish could be there for Hen racing 6th Aug - sounds enormous fun! Worth a visit.
