We were returning home and needed a place to eat that would be decent food, not too pricey, and have quick service. Nothing in Brattleboro seemed to fit the bill, but instead of hitting Route 91, we decided to wander down Route 5. With the...number of cars out front of the Country Store we thought it might be a winner, and it was. The atmosphere is quaint and lovely, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food well-prepared and delicious. My husband ordered the "Godfather" and I got the Chicken salad of the day which was Tarragon. Both sandwiches were flavorful without being over-powering; two of the best sandwiches we've had in a restaurant in a long time. The food came quickly and was relatively inexpensive. A delightful find that we will go back to during our trips to and from VT.More
Driving home to Connecticut from the Killington area on the back roads we stopped at the Guildford Country Store based on TripAdvisor reviews. It is a fairly typical country store but they have a nice cafe area as well as the shelving and counter. This...is a family affair in which the husband and wife are working and teenage daughters there as well. We had delicious soups. A vegetarian split pea that somehow had the smokey flavor of the ham that was not there and a very nice clam chowder. We each also had a Cheddar grilled cheese sandwich. Do not leave without trying their large and delicious cookies.More
This is a lovely spot with outstanding offerings for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Everything is fresh and made with care. The owners provide excellent customer service and the cafe seating area has a really nice, relaxing vibe.
This is just a short drive from Castlemaine and is always on the list for a casual coffee or a light lunch. The team behind the counter seem to love what they do and always have a smile. Lots of locals gather there and enjoy...their coffees. When in Castlemaine make sure you take the 10 minute to the Guilford Store. It's great.More
I don't know what happened to the Waldens, but I've been going to this restaurant ever since it opened, usually 5 mornings a week. Whether it's Mark, John, or Jackie at the grill, my egg sandwich is always cooked to perfection. Also, their soups, other...sandwiches, and deli case items are exceptional. We are fortunate to have many great restaurants in the Brattleboro area and this is one of them. And to top it all off, you couldn't find nicer owners, Mark and Suzanne, and their entire staff.More
We use to love this place and my husband goes here to get breakfast sandwiches to bring home for weekend laziness because they actually cook the eggs to order instead of microwave eggs. The guy who runs the kitchen is awesome and his food is...perfect every time. He is a really good cook. However, as of April 2017, they have this new assistant cook, we have sadly got him the last two times my husband has gone in on a Saturday morning. He does not seem to care how your food is cooked and is more interested in just getting it thrown in a bag and you out the door. My husband stressed eggs over light, it might be picky but we are paying for food to be made for us. If I can cook my eggs at home better than the guy I am paying to cook them, in my opinion, we have no reason to frequent your store. The eggs were not only overcooked they were fried beyond recognition, my sandwhich for $7.99 was all bun and lacking anything else. When I called the store back just to let the guy who runs the kitchen know the new guy needed som training, a young girl answered. Instead of apologizing or responding to my concerns she pointed out that one of the items I believed came with my sandwhich was actually an add on for an additional fee. She never addressed anything else and basically just wanted to tell me they were great and we as customers sucked. Not that she said that, but that was her attitude. So if you are a tourist I would skip this place because who knows you might get the guy who makes great food but you might get the guy who doesn't care. You might enjoy the experience or you might drop $40 bucks in the store for breakfast, coffee, drinks and treats and then be treated like you are the problem complaining. We won't be going back and we probably spend at least $100 bucks a month in that store. To be extra clear, for me, the new guy is new, he could have taken the feedback and learned from it. The girl focusing on the only point that she could to be "right" somehow and not giving the phone to a manager or even just saying she would let the head chef know is really the icing on the cake. I would have liked to feel that someone actually cared about my experience not treat me like oh well we got your money now go complain elsewhere. So now we are going to be going elsewhere. Who wants to pay $7 and up for an egg sandwhich anyway.More
Valerie, I am very sorry that you didn't have a good experience this occasion or in previous times. I felt that it was important that I responding to your review because I feel a sense of responsibility for all the actions that take place here,...More
We always forget this is so close by - and we're never disappointed with the food and service. Delicious sandwiches and salads, really friendly staff and a good place to catch up on local news.
The Guilford Country Store is quaint and cute and a great place to go if you want to learn history or get a chuckle from the locals. They have excellent food to eat in or take out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The kale salad...with hazelnuts and feta is excellent and Mark does a great chicken curry. The soups are always good to as well as the sandwich's. I highly recommend.More
Just a short way south off Exit 1 in Brattleboro, this is THE place to go for a great variety of snacks, a bottle of wine, terrific breakfast and lunch items made to order, take out for dinner, coffee and homemade sweets, groceries, organic eggs,...a meeting with neighbors, local crafts (fine paintings, pottery, woven goods, etc.). There's always a good vegetarian option along with other creative and delicious menu items. If you go around 8 - 9 in the morning, you're likely to find several tables filled with locals enjoying a cup of coffee and each other's company. Marc and Suzanne provide a great catering service, too. While there are good places in nearby Brattleboro for breakfast of lunch, this is by far my favorite!More
