We visited this restaurant on chilly day in November. We sat at a table overlooking the little harbour and watched the waves crashing on the harbour wall. I had kipper pate on toast. The famous Craster kippers are smoked just opposite this restaurant and they...More

We came to this restaurant a year ago for the first time. Amazing again. Not a bad word, expect I couldn’t get my butternut like last year. My fault because I didn’t call ahead. Great menu. Great staff and well priced. I have no negatives...More

I'm allergic to fish and seafood and yet this has become my favourite restaurant in Northumberland. After repeated visits we've come to expect wonderful homely hospitality where no little request is too much but it's also clear that the staff take enormous (and justifiable) pride...More

The staff are friendly, the choice of smoked fish is wonderful and the location is perfect for walking or simply relaxing. When the weather is good, sitting outside is perfect. The only decision you need to make is whether to walk to Dunstanburgh Castle before...More

We were squeezed on in the final night of service before closing for winter and what a treat it proved to be. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Hot crab starter for me and home smoked salmon for hubbie. Both were really tasty and...More

We had travelled to the area for a break to coincide with my wife's birthday. I had booked well in advance and we arrived at the restaurant in good time but had to wait inside the door until someone finally greeted us and showed us...More

Fantastic plates of smoked salmon, delicious Brazilian seafood stew and divine sticky toffee pudding. All with an impressive panorama of the sea and the castle. The staff are lovely, full of advice and are happy to accommodate any special request.

Absolutely amazing food and great value. So fresh and tasty. I would recommend the prawn and crab pot and the monkfish Thai curry was packed with monkfish. So so tasty and excellent value for money. So glad we managed to visit during our stay.

Dear PriusExplorer, Have you been to any restaurants in Paris or even in London? I don't believe that you have; if you had then you might just understand that a restaurant with a typical evening opening window of 90 minutes for only a few months per year has every reason to expect that people will make reservations. The Michelin guide might not have recognised this restaurant yet but Rick Stein has waxed lyrical about the kippers from this smokehouse. The food in this establishment is of a very high standard, the service is at the very least well above average for the area. Obviously Pizza Express et al will offer you a table if you turn up at opening time but that's because they are what they are. Oh and Pizza express probably won't be found for at least another 30 miles from Craster.... Sadly it seems that you feel justified in writing a really poor review of somebody's way of life when you didn't actually even try the food because you couldn't plan a few hours ahead. Had you made a reservation then you would have had the opportunity to enjoy the very best of Northumbrian cuisine. Shame on yo
