With apologies to the famous Victorian English novelist, Charles Dickens - it was the best of waitresses, it was the worst of waitresses.
For the best of waitresses, I give you Emma - rarely has such a charming young waitress enhanced our dining experience as...much as she did on the evening of Saturday 7 December 2019. Nothing was too much trouble for her, she spent time translating from French to English some of the menu items, engaged in conversation, and was generally an all-round example of what a great waitress should be.
For the worst of waitresses, well that may be an over exaggeration, but Ms X (name unknown) needs to drop her ‘attitude’. Willing to greet our part-Belgian / part-English party of six in both French and English on arrival, and to do likewise upon our departure, she was nonetheless able to cause offence to one of our Belgian hosts when asked if the menu was available in English. A simple - ‘I’m sorry, no’ - would have sufficed, but instead the reply was along the lines of - ‘We are in Belgium, why should we have menus in English?’ (with such an attitude is it any wonder the U.K. voted in favour of Brexit)?!
Drop the ‘attitude’ dear, and you may find people remember their dining experience at your restaurant with a greater degree of pleasure. Thankfully the delightful Emma rescued the evening.
I have deliberately not commented on the quality of food, to highlight the relative importance of customer service to the overall dining experience.More
