The place is known all over Brussels for its excellent grilled meat. When we visited the restaurant, I was however not in the mood for meat. I was delighted to find an attractive menu offering a wide variety of seasonal as well as typical Belgian dishes, some of them difficult to find nowadays like the "cervelle" or the "escargots de Bourgogne". The decor is warm and cosy, even away from the fire place. The service is pleasant and efficient. The food delicious. The only downside is the lack of a dedicated parking,

Had been planning a trip to this restaurant for the last 10 years and as I sat on the train I began to get a bit nervous , what if it doesn’t come close to what I have in my head. My fear was misplaced, easily the best meal I’ve ever eaten. The chef could give lessons to others on seasoning , perfectly cooked , sides and all. Desert was fantastic and the service was really what made this restaurant shine, attentive , courteous and was a great lesson in meal timing , we never waited too long nor felt rushed. A gastronomic trip to Brussels isn’t complete without a visit.

We have been here often. The steals are usually good, being cooked in front of an open fire. My entrecôte came already cut. I did not ask for this; I was not asked if I wanted this. I do not wish anyone else to cut my steak for me unless I request it, thank you very much. I mentioned this afterwards to the manager, who is a stranger to the maxim that the customer is always right. He just said that this is how they do it now. The côte à l'os (for three @ 120 euros but actually only enough for two) came with a simple salad but not vegetables. Disappointed on this occasion.

Very bad service (slow and confusional), low quality meat (we had Chateaubriand), open fireplace with very bad ventilation will make your cloths, skin and hair stink.

A family-run place, with a very nice history (which can be read on the menu). Cozy, elegant (a nice touch with the fire) and offering great meat dishes. A bit slow serving.

We arrived 7:30pm...we get the bill at 10:00pm. Horrible service. Nothing was tasty including french fries. Cook in the kitchen must return to school for basic. Sorry guys but I regret my $100.

De Hoef is a great place with couleur locale. One is recommended to speak French. The restaurant is located in an old farm which in the 17th century was in the middle of the countryside. Food is simple but delicious. Well prepared served with good accompanying wine. If you want to experience something different, the Hoef is the place to go to.

The place is old fashioned, one can tell they have been around for ages, it has all the charm you'd expect and the meat is good although I would not consider it outstanding. Much of the hype may be attributed to the aura surrounding this bastion of tradition but perhaps the ingredients have not remained the same over time.

We have been there for the first time despite we are living in the area. I had a choucroute and my wife a deer meat dish. I was pleased in terms of quantity (smashed patatoes plate was however not that big) but was a bit disappointed by the sausages. It was not the real thing it made me think of a hotdog sausage but otherwise very good. The other plate was rather tiny but very good. Like for another reviewer my expectation was higher due to price level. An elderly and wealthy people area.

My family has been eating here since the 1930s, and have continued to frequent it ever since. The current family has been in place for around 6 decades, and the basic menu changes little, with, at its heart, good quality meat grilled over the open range fire in the front dining-room. If you enjoy red meat, in particular, the massive T-bone steaks are a particular treat. There's just enough seasonal suggestions to prevent the menu from getting dull, and there's a good wine list. Service tends to be leisurely, but you don't go here to eat in a hurry, but to savour the unique atmosphere of this 17th century farmhouse, and to enjoy the classic dishes of traditional Belgian cuisine. For sweet, the caramelised apple pancake, flambéed in Calvados is particularly recommended! Discreet charm, incredibly reliable cooking, and genuinely good value for money in a city where quality food and wine tends to be on the expensive side.

Very charming setting for this restaurant (building of the 16th century!). Very well known in the area for the delicious meat roasted on a open fire, great for the winter and with a beautiful garden for eating outside in the summer. Friendly staff. A place where you meet many locals (families from the (very) privileged area rather than tourists. One of our classic for family dinners.

A classic old school family owned restaurant. Quality cuts of beef (mainly) cooked over an open wood fire served by staff who've worked there well for ever! Great food, great restaurant and great staff...even better when the weather is cold as one can appreciate the cozy setting and crackling fire!

This is my second time in Brussels, and my second time at de Hoef 1627. My wife found it through research several years ago, and it is a great combination of Country ambience and simple, yet excellent, food. My daughter and I had Sirloin Steak, which is cooked over an open hardwood fire in the large fireplace in the front room of the restaurant. This was accompanied by Ceasar Salad and Pomme Frites. The wine list is thankfully brief, French, and reasonable. We had an excellent yet inexpensive chilled Alsace Pinot Noir that was a nice compliment to our dinner. The desserts were also delicious; one of the best versions of Chocolate Mousse I've had. Not meaning to sound like I really know beef, but I have had the opportunity to eat in some of the finest steak restaurants across the US, and this steak was less fatty and still flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I will go back again.

Hard to believe to find a restaurant in a building from 1627 just in the middle of Brussels. This place is famous for preparing most it its plates on the open fire. The walls have the same age as the building and gives a very cosy atmosphere. Menu at 30 €uro 4 courses. A small nice protected terasse in the back for warm summerdays.
