We booked a 4 hour tea tasting and tour. We are experienced tea drinker and already knew much about Japanese tea before taking the tour. But the experience help us appreciate tea even more. Daiki, the owner, used to be CEO of Japanese donut chain...stores but wanted a more healthy lifestyle. He moved from Tokyo to Wakazu in Uji and started tea farming and processing as well as opening cafe to promote single blend tea and macha. We felt his passion and vision and thoroughly enjoyed our learning with him. The tea, tea meals, tea desert, and macha chocolate with various percentage of macha were all very delicious and inventive. We brought back various teas and deserts and became a subscriber to receive macha quarterly after the visit. Highly recommend to anyone who is interested in Japanese tea from tea leave variety, processing, making, to brewing and tasting. Tea plantation was beautiful even in winter time.More

This cafe and the associated tea fields are a warm and wonderful introduction to the 800-year-old world of tea in the town of Wazuka. We were very impressed with the young entrepreneurial family leading this business. We took a tour of some of their tea...fields, harvested a few leaves that turned out to be part (tempura) of our warm and tasty lunch, and sampled half a dozen teas. Every moment was interesting, fun, and delightfully educational, and team members were happy to answer our questions. The shop has a nice variety (and reasonably priced) selection of teas and related items. We highly recommend it! (PS - We are an English-only family, and that was no barrier to our complete enjoyment.)More

We booked the full tour here. We were picked up at a train station which took us about an hour to get to from Kyoto. We were taken to the Cafe where we were told about how our day would go. First we went to...the tea plantation, got some pictures, had some iced green tea and then picked our own tea leaves. After returning to the cafe, we were taken to the factory where we were shown the machinery used to process the tea after picking. Then we had some tempura tea leaves and lunch which was delicious. After this we had a matcha and sencha tea tasting which was interesting and also delicious. My partner isn't a fan of tea but really enjoyed it as well and returned from Japan a tea convert! Daiki was a great host and very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. We were very glad we booked this experience and it was one of our highlights from our Japan trip.More

My husband and I absolutely loved this cafe. We biked past it by chance, but would recommend adding it to your itinerary if you are not a local. We had a houjicha parfait, a matcha dessert sample platter, and a houjicha latte. Everything was such...high quality. We loved it so much, we bought loads of tea to take back to the UK. The staff were really friendly, and it was very accessible for english-speaking tourists.More

After a very informative walking tour of Wazuka, we had lunch at the d:matcha cafe. As you would expect, the café serves many matcha based beverages but also several lunch entrees. We had the very delicious tan tan noodle dish. Vegetarian options are also offered....Several matcha themed desserts are also available which looked very tempting! Worth noting for non Japanese patrons is the bilingual menu. The back of the café has a large picture window for viewing growing fields. The entire café team is very friendly and professional, and most spoke English too making this an ideal stop during a visit to the tea growing and processing town of Wazuka.More
