We pulled into Neil's harbor because of an ice cream sign on the trail. The ice cream place was shut down. However, fortunately for us The Chowder House was not! We had seafood chowder and a dinner of scallops seared in brandy. The chowder was hearty and flavorful while the scallops were cooked to perfection. All in all I would... More

There aren't a lot of restaurants in the area, this one has a great view, right on the ocean. Casual picnic table seating, okay food, friendly staff. We were there for 2 lunches in a row, food the same both days, overpriced for what it is, but okay.

The Chowder House is located along the Cabot Trail. Go early for lunch. We arrived at noon, which was perfect. However, there was a wait to be seated shortly after we arrived. I had the crab sandwich. It was loaded with fresh local snow crab and delicious. I would ask for wheat or whole grain bread as an option.

On a spit with a great 180 degree view of the coast. Best views from the parking lot, but also some tables inside. Service is a bit slow and the food a bit above average but nothing to write home about.

We had one small bowl of seafood chowder and one of crab and corn. And one bottle of Pepsi. The bill was over $24 and the chowders were NOT worth it! Seafood was much to milky and this. Had to break up the bread slice to give it substance. And the very little amount of crab was stretched with waaaay... More

Great spot for lunch when you are doing the cabot trail in a day. One of my father's favorite meals is fish and chips and he has already had a couple of fish sandwiches since we hit the maritime but he said this was the best sandwich by far. Great batter. I had mussels and though I would have liked... More

Along with your meal you will have the best view ever. Rustic looking inside. Don't let the tables fool you. The staff are very friendly and the food is the best around. We have eaten seafood all around N.S. and this place is the best. My advice is to order the seafood platter. Lobster, muscles, scalps, shrimp and noodles. Enjoy... More

We ate dinner here while traveling through the Highlands and we are so glad that we did!! We started with the seafood chowder...WOW! Best chowder I've ever had. My kids loved it too! Then came the snow crab dinner. Oh. My. Goodness. It was heavenly!! The fresh cut fries were crispy and delicious, the veggies were tasty, and the snow... More

We were looking forward to here mid-afternoon at the recommendation of the hosts of the bed and breakfast we had stayed at the night before and we actually bypassed some other highly recommended restaurants in favour of eating here, but the experience was disappointing. Despite the heavy rain, the location and view were wonderful but that was the best part.... More

On the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton there are many good chowder places, but this was our favorite for chowder and for scallops. A nice light broth loaded with fish, scallops and lobster. The scallops were simply prepared, juicy and tender. A simple, no frills place in the shadow of a lighthouse with stunning views out to sea.
