We initially stopped in after kayaking all day in Ingonish and didn't realize it was closed. I desperately had to use the washroom and I asked if I could please use the washroom. It was 15 mins after they closed. The lovely lady sweeping the...More

Even my son loved the seafood Chowder! Best thing I ate so far on my trip! Wish I was heading back up there for more.

It truly looks like a dump, but it was the only game in town and we were hungry, so we stopped there. First of all, the inside is much more appealing than the exterior, clean and airy. Also, you can get takeout and then eat...More

This place is busy. But the food we had was great. Lobster rolls were great as well as the sides (salad, slaw and fries). Stop here on your Cabot Trail trip.

My wife and I had dinner at Chowder House at the end of a day driving the Cabot Trail and it was amazing. Chowder itself was good, but the crab legs I had were amazing--fresh and very well prepared. My wife had salmon, which she...More

This place may not look super fancy but you won't mind as soon as you mingle with the kind folks who run the place and see that breathtaking ocean view! Not to mention the food was absolutely incredible....not exaggerating. The seafood chowder was sooooooooooooo good!!!...More

We are expecting an old- fashioned seafood place by the water, and we were not disappointed. I found the chowder to be excellent, and I am a foodie so I do not understand some of the other reviews that disliked the chowder. The Digby clams...More

As this place being an official chowder house my wife and I tried this restaurant out while on our road trip, the chowder was average but lacked a bit of taste, and we were some what disappointed. Although the atmosphere is good inside the restaurant...More

The food was great but the service was just OK. The restaurant was too busy for the staff on duty. We never received our bill so I waited in line for 10 minutes or more to pay.

I can't answer that Susan, try a search, they have a facebook page, maybe you can ask on the page.
It is unfortunate you feel this way. I am the waitress you are referring to. I had offered each and every customer that arrived at the restaurant that day to be seated in the cooler section. Unfortunately there were no tables available at that time and people waiting to be seated.. They preferred to sit in the section that had the best view as did yourself with your group. There was only one lady in the group of 6 that was uncomfortable and I did keep checking her. The others in her group were fine. The gentlemen with her also thanked me for the wonderful service. Their food was ready to be served and we were not to have people moving to tables (with food in their hands). We are very small and try our best to accommodate each and every patron. We always go over and above what is expected of us. As for "seniors beware" we host residents from the nursing home every year and they are treated with the utmost respect. We hope you do return to our restaurant and as they were before, circumstances will be friendly and accommodating. We appreciate each and every comment that it placed on this site. I am certified with Tourism Nova Scotia and have worked in the Hospitality Industry for a total of 20 years. There is always room for improvement in any business no matter what the circumstance. When you return we will treat you and each person young and old equally as we always do. Thank you for your patronage. I hope your next visit to Cape Breton will be a pleasurable one.

This was not my review. I had no trouble with any of the staff which I indicated--just the food--probably the worst I had in Nova Scotia during our three week vacation. We were a couple.
