What a wonderful find! Found this place on Travelzoo. Off peak deal with an 8 course taster menu. This was absolutely superb. The flavours in each dish were divine. All the food is locally sourced, the meats, cheeses, the vegetables which they grow in their own polytunnels. Homemade bread, jams, sauces, purées etc. The whole hotel is geared towards sustainability... More

The Battlesteads never fails! We call in on a regular basis usually on our way to Kielder. The food is very good as is the service, real ale and the atmosphere. It was Friday and most of us had fish and chips-verdict from everyone was perfect! They are extending at the moment and the plans look fabulous as does their... More

I can only comment on the Monday pensioners lunch days. We had the best three course lunches I would think in our area. It was cooked to perfection and served by a very pleasant 19 year old foreign lady who was so helpful and funny. We were seated in a delightful warm conservatory/orangery which looked out over the hotel gardens... More

Our second visit and it was enhanced by both arriving in sunshine and finding our room had been upgraded. As part of our stay we visited the observatory on the first evening and were able to view the stars through 2 separate telescopes. On our second evening we enjoyed both excellent service and the 8 course taster menu. The hotel... More

A perfect lunch. Worth going past the building works and finding conservatory at the back of the pub through a lovely evening dining area. Tables look over the garden. Excellent lunch and dessert and great service with friendly welcome from our waitress. Will be coming back lots.

We had 8 course tasting menu on our first evening, which was lovely, well cooked and presented. We also dined there on our second night and were not disappointed by its tasty menu. Loved that it was local produce. Very welcoming hotel, will return before too long.

Lovely cosy hotel ( under renovation at the moment). The food was nice but not exceptional. There was a lot of preparing of other tables a little off putting when you are eating. On the plus side dog were allowed in.
